ropeParticipantJust read the story about his brother posting a video claiming he took cash and gifts. It’s a shame if this is true and the NCAA gets involved. I was looking forward to seeing him in college. He is a heck of a prospect.

Robb_CParticipantHis Brother is a scumbag for throwing his brother under the bus, I hope this isn’t true and its terrible his own blood released this bomb.

BleedGreen808ParticipantThe SB Nation article mentions the brother wanted to become Bamba’s NBA agent but Bamba didn’t like the idea. The brother talks about how the booster turned Bamba into the devil but it sounds like he’s the one that is blinded by greed.

cavairo7ParticipantSadly, this kind of stuff happens all the time in the recruiting world. I agree that his brother is a scumbag for leaking this to the media. Recruiting in college sports, especially football and basketball, is a shaddy business.

mgreener_34ParticipantEh all of these guys do it, and they aren’t exactly quiet about it either. With all the millions upon millions of dollars being pumped into schools over their sports program, its naive to think they don’t try to help their cause a little bit.
I live in UConn, and I saw it first hand when the program actually mattered. Those guys were living like kings.
Likewise, something I learned while living here from the banks, because these guys have a "brand", and show potential earning power and income, they can take ridiculous loans out from banks. The first thing Rodny Pervis did when he got to UConn was go and get himself a brand new, pimped out Dodge Charger. Something tells me he didn’t get it as a birthday gift from his mother….
Personally, I think these guys should be getting paid, so I really don’t care. I think it’s a travesty that these kids act like slaves and puppets for the NCAA and get nothing in return. "They get paid in education," except when they aren’t paying well, or a more famous recruit comes along, and their scholarship is revoked…
Love March Madness, but I wouldn’t be opposed to more players playing overseas, in different leagues, or just strait up playing in the G league. That would be less entertaining, but better for the sport.

Robb_CParticipantExactly, the fact his own brother sold him out is disgusting to me.. Sounds like some serious sibling envy, I personally have had former players tell me multiple stories about asst. coaches going to players hotel rooms after AAU tournaments and handing them money and saying "keep us in mind".. its a prerequisite to the recruiting process in major cities..

ndbigdaveParticipantFrom the stories I have read the brother is just totally butt-hurt about being eliminated from the process. His original plan was apparently to follow Bamba to whatever college he ended up at, take some courses to become an agent and then represent Bamba next year. When the brother was cut off and distanced he went on a facebook video rant (shirtless, profanity-laden, super classy) and now there will inevitably be some sort of investigation.

Robb_CParticipantSounds like his brother has the personality built for being an Agent, this is something a sleezeball agent would do! I hope to god the NCAA sees the extortion angle his brother is pulling.

Memphis MadnessParticipantWas Kentucky over the salary cap this year?
What about Louisville?
Guess Texas has better hookers than the Bluegrass State these days…

ndbigdaveParticipantThe sad thing is, the story is likely true. I hope it doesn’t effect his ability to play because I do definitely want to watch him play and develop before next year’s draft – also hoping to see him match up with some of the other big guys at the NCAA level.
I wont get into paying players, but the stories of “bag men” are very real, and the control the shoe companies and “handlers” have over 15, 16, 17 and 18 year old kids is kinda sad and pathetic.
I would like to see the NBA adopt a rule similar to the NHL and MLB where players can come out whenever they want, and then make a decision about going pro or going to school for a few years to develop. I think its a great way to help players not fall through the cracks, actually get a chance to develop while also protecting NBA franchises from busts.
I also have never blamed a guy for going overseas, if I had been a true elite player with NBA type potential (and no intent of staying 3 or 4 years at a school) I would have taken the money and chance to simply play basketball and train 100% of the time. This is coming from someone who is a die hard college basketball fan who follows recruiting very closely, if it was me and I was making a business decision I would go bank money immediately and improve my game by getting to training and playing in a pro-league.

ropeParticipantThat explanation makes sense. After reading that, it makes me feel like this will amount to nothing. The brother is a prick, though.

Memphis MadnessParticipantFigures. Former Texas Longhorn Kevin Durant killed the NBA. Might as well kill of college ball, too.
Joking.
Kinda…
