SamCarlsonParticipantThere has probably already been a topic posted on this but I wanted a discussion on Australian basketball. They have produced some decent prospects in the past but this incoming crop of talent is rediculous.
Exum will get his feet wet in the nba this year but a 6’6" combo guard with good atleticism is a good start.
Then you go with Ben Simmons who is no 1 in his class and 6’9" with a lot of versatility.
Obvioulsy Thon Maker who will prolly be over 7’0" if he is not already and the ideal skill set of a stretch 4.
The one thing I thought they were missing was bulk down low and then I start reading how Isaac humphries is tearing it up in the fiba u19. 6’11" 250 and growing. That’s nice.
They could be scary in the future and a bigger threat to the us than I originally thought Canada would be

Mr. JewboyParticipantAnd don’t forget former #1 pick Andrew Bogut and one of the stars of the last Finals, Patty Mills. Both of whom round out an excellent starting 5
Bright future indeed

peZt93ParticipantFrom positions 2-5 they probably have the best talent in the world after the US with Exum, Ben Simmons, Thon Maker and Isaac Humphries. 3 likely Top-5 picks and the way people are hyping up Humphries right now I could see him being a top 5 pick as well. He is dominating the U17 World Cup right now despite being one of the youngest players there.
At the one they have a pretty solid talent in Dellavedova as well.
Everybodys talking about Canada but I’m higher on Australia tbh. That starting five could be crazy good. Now imagine if Kyrie Irving played for Australia as well.
Irving–Exum–Simmons–Thon Maker–Isaac Humphries.
Damnnnn

ChoppyParticipantDeng Adel who has committed to Louisville and Rick Pitino. A 6-7 SG or SF with good defensive potential and a developing offensive game. Still not sure we are quite on Canada’s level yet but if all our prospects pan out, we could be on a similar footing as them in a few years. That’s a big IF, but it’s certainly exciting times for Australian basketball.

joecheck88ParticipantTo be fair, while Canada’s prospects are a bit further along, they have lots of growing to so as well as prospects. Their current core of Cory Joseph, Tristan Thompson, Wiggins, Bennett and co all need to get better before they’re a true force.

Coach365ParticipantJonah Bolden at UCLA and Mango Mathiang are both good players and I think Boise St and Baylor have a couple of prospects to keep an eye on.

Rip255Some of those guys are big IFs to be honest. The only one who is a lock to be an All Star is Simmons. The rest just have upside and Mills/Dellavedova are NBA bench players. A lot of people aren’t sold on Maker and Adel amd Bolden are long shots to get drafted.
Even Exum is no sure bet to be an NBA starter as hes been underwhelming in what we’ve seen from him thus far. Lets just cool the Jets for a bit gentlemen. Potential is one thing…reaching it is another

Coach365ParticipantNo one is a lock to be an NBA allstar. Simmons is not in the same echelon as LeBron or even KD coming out of HS. Those guys were certified.
The post was in regards to potential vs Canada and collectively the potential of the talent pool coming out of Australia is as deep as Canada in relationship to World Championships and the Olympics.
