bedrock23ParticipantGAME OF THE YEAR!!!!
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 6:25pm #633714
WizardofOzParticipantAustin Rivers reminds me so much of Jamal Crawford, but with more explosiveness. Shoots the ball better with a hand in his face.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 6:28pm #633717
FastAndFuriousParticipantAs I said in the Duke-UNC thread…………His full game was on display(Strength&Weakness) he doesn’t need another year, he can go score in the NBA right now.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 6:29pm #633720
Taylor Gang MikeParticipant^^^ 100% right, Kid is a player. reminds me Crawford but i think he has allot of Brandon Roy/ Mayo in him after watching this game

Taylor Gang MikeParticipantGottlieb just compared him to Wade

JaeEvolutionParticipantAgree with youngdave, how much have any of last years returnees improved? You want to be the best go play with the big boys…
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 6:32pm #633723
rileymcshea3ParticipantI would deffiantly take him in the top 5
He could easily be better then Barnes,Lamb, and Beal
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 6:34pm #633724
Future_Scouthe is very much like d wade. thats his fav player too
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 6:41pm #633727
rileymcshea3ParticipantNot really^^ Dwayne Wade can dunk on litteraly any one ,Austin Rivers cant really dunk on any one.
Austin Rivers may be one of the best 3 point threats in the NBA as soon as he enters the league while wade isnt even near being the best on his team
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 6:44pm #633729
FastAndFuriousParticipantRivers first step is stupid quick, I didn’t know it was like that, he might have the best first step in college seriously.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 6:46pm #633730
Taylor Gang MikeParticipantbest first step i have seen in a long time… deron williams, monta and cp3 have great first steps, but rivers learned from the best
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 6:54pm #633738
simonkildayParticipantHe had a great game but let’s be honest, he probably needs another year. Still has a lot of holes in his game, most notably doing anything going to his left hand, and still struggles to play within a system. He has a great first step, lightning crossover, and a nice little floater, but he’s not a complete player yet. Another year at Duke would do a lot of good for him. Nevertheless, he has a long NBA career ahead of him. Great game for him tonight, and showed a lot of balls; he wanted that last shot, didn’t think twice about it, and drilled it in a hostile environment.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 6:58pm #633739
SoilworkerParticipantAustin Rivers is special. He’s faced some early struggles. Many doubters. But he has IT. Proved it tonight.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 7:04pm #633742
EntropyParticipantHe is very good.
But after this i get the feeling people will start to overrated him.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 7:11pm #633743
GottaBeTheShoesParticipantCalm down and reevaluate his season tomorrow, were all a little too pumped and are hopping onto the bandwagon that everyone didn’t want to jump on because he was "overrated". He is definitely NBA ready as I’ve said from the start. Leave him open and just start walking cause that shots going in but this is just one game and hopefully many more like it hopefully to come. But as the greats say
"You’re only as good as your last game you played."
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 7:12pm #633745
FastAndFuriousParticipantPeople might overate him a bit, but all I can say is this.
That ultra quick first step+His scoring ability+His athleticism+His size= A big time player on ANY level.
Watch the next mock draft he goes from 2013 back to 2012 lottery.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 7:19pm #633750
NCarmean18ParticipantI went crazy after seeing this. There was a span of like a minute or two whenever he and Harrison Barnes were going back and forth hitting tough shots on their respective ends of the floor. Austin is an excellent scorer and he proved it tonight, shooting 60% from long range and hitting the game-winning 3-Pt shot to win the game for Duke. North Carolina seemed to have this game wrapped up but couldn’t finish and Austin Rivers made them really wish they had.
I’m curious as a lot of you are to see if he leaves college after this season, and if so I’m interested in seeing where he will land. He has some tremendous talent, and I honestly think after this season he’ll be ready to go show it off in front of the best competition in the world of basketball.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 7:22pm #633752
FastAndFuriousParticipantThe NBA game is so much more wide open, his game screams NBA, after tonight I’m a believer, I watched Duke 3 times before this and always saw flashes but he put it all together tonight against a team that some think can win the National Championship, Rivers is serious.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 7:29pm #633755
uknationParticipant2nd best game of the year (how soon we forget UNC vs UK)
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 7:36pm #633756
FastAndFuriousParticipantIDK man this might top UNC vs UK
You knew UK would beat UNC, even though the game was close, most people knew UK was going to walk away with the win.
This game was up in the air,Duke was up for a minute then Carolina went on a crazy run and it seemed over
But…………….
That last run Duke made was phenomonal and then the game winning 3 just put the icing on the cake man.
This is my number one game of the year so far.
With a tie between UNC vs UK and Mizzou vs Kansas.

0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 7:57pm #633758
For_Never_EverParticipantAre you guys saying he is a good of an athlete as Monta And Mayo and has a first step as good as Wade ???
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 8:24pm #633763
For_Never_EverParticipantEveryone here keeps mentioning his first step. But this game was a jump shooting game, all his points came from screens, catch and shoot, step back shots.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 8:27pm #633765
EuroBallParticipantThe most important aspect we all got from the DUKE VS UNC game, Rivers is a big game guy. There should be no debate anymore if he should come out or not! Rivers is clearly a top five pick and depending on some teams interest he could be top three. If he continues to play consistant he will receive positive views from scouts/experts to make that transition to the NBA.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 8:33pm #633767
Ghost01ParticipantMore people should bring up Monta….hes got that acceleration and is more undersized like Monta. HUGE night for him. and Fvck unibrow…get that UK ish outta here. When he is able to hit a shot that isnt an alley oop, then he isnt hasheem thabeet.

Scottoant93Participant0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 8:47pm #633770
F_DA_POParticipanthe had a great game tonight, but people need to make their mind up about him. First you all say he’s going to be a top 5 pick, then people say he needs to stay a few years, now he’s a top 5 pick again and the next Wade or Ellis. When he has a couple more bad games, you need to make up your mind. I say he’s a borderline top 10 pick, he is not Wade or Ellis calibar, could be a notch below those guys.

Johnny ChillHis balls are too big for college.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantLMAO!! Now Everyone is Jumping on the Sub -Zero BANDWAGON….When Did Yall Get a Transfer Off The Jeremy Lamb Train?
If you go back and look at some threads on here that were made earlier in the season when Jeremy Lamb was playing well and everyone was saying he’s the best player in the country..Some guys got carried away and were comparing him to Jordan…I mentioned that Rivers will be the better pro player and possibly a Top 5 pick if he came out this year..But if he wanted to become truly great, he should stick around another year to get stronger and work on a few things…I got so many negative feedbacks…
On a Side Note: Doc Rivers Daughter can get it!! lol
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 11:12pm #633788
Sam_HinkieParticipantI compared him to jamal crawford last year and got shit on…
ball dominant play with a sick crossover, cant finish that well
His first step is ridiculous tho…beter than jamal crawford’s

kobyzParticipantif you want a perfect NBA comparison for Rivers, it’s – Derek Anderson!!
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/09/2012 - 1:12am #633800
FastAndFuriousParticipantWatch some Jerryd Bayless HS and college highlights and tell me you don’t see the same game.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/09/2012 - 4:48am #633811
Maniac MaciejParticipantI keep thinking of a cross between Monta and Steph Curry, but not quite as good as either one.
Of course, this site lists his NBA comparison as Doc Rivers…classic.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/09/2012 - 6:18am #633826
HaleParticipantGuys, come on. One big game where he gets hot from 3 and everyone jumps on his bandwagon? He’s still not a great athlete and did nothing inside the arc the whole game. I like him as a prospect no more then I did last week. All he does is score from the outside.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/09/2012 - 6:31am #633830
tbp82ParticipantThat was an amazing game last night.
Austin Rivers played well and showed he has ice water in his veins in the clutch.
How much could Rivers improve his draft stock if he stays another year. I could see him going mid to late lottery this year if he goes back he’s behind Noel Muhammed and Adams for sure so that’s four at best if Zeller, Mcadoo and Drummond stay then what’s he up to maybe #6? Not to mention that a guy like Isiah Austin could shoot up draft boards quick if he produces. Rivers can improve his game by going back to school but not sure he can improve his stock.

hexsplowParticipanti was watching and talking to my girl on the phone and when duke went down like 12 i told her if duke loses ill chop my balls off.
well thanks austin

yankees1ParticipantThe NBA is really becoming a young mans game. You can make a case for almost every undergrad going pro … that their not ready or need another year. But if you really look at the league , you can count true superstars on one hand. Most teams are now just accumulating as much young talent as possible hoping that these young guys develope . I think Rivers is entering this years draft along with Drummond , Woten, Nash and some other freshman who are not ready. Don’t know if Rivers will ever be a consistant star at the NBA level , but I feel with a lack of veteran talent in the league … you will see several one and done players taken in the next few years … ready or not
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/09/2012 - 8:02am #633863
FastAndFuriousParticipantAnother young player who will be leaving early is:
Marquis Teague, his play is getting better and better, all he has to do is remain solid for the next 1.5 month and he will reclaim himself a late lottery pick, he may not be ready, but off his potential he will get selected pretty high.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/09/2012 - 8:09am #633866
nbafan7898ParticipantAustin Rivers had a great game last night. Shows a lot of his potential, but I still have my doubts. His shot selection is not that good. Had he missed all of those tough bad shots that he took last night there would be a different tone in the thread. I’d like to see him stay to work on his decision making and playing a team concept. But with a better basketball iq the guy will be a monster. Has a quick first step and great quickness.
Other observations from the game:
The team that wastes a pick on Pumlee in the first round will be very dissapointed. I see Zeller as a 10 min. backup in the NBA and he just embarrased Mason. I was expecting more from him.
Those that say Kendall Marshall can’t score need to eat their words. He had some nice finishes over 6"10 Ryan Kelly and 6’11" Pumlee. I am really high on this kid and think that he can be a Rubio like player throughout his career.
Reggie Bullock and PJ Hairston need to watch tapes and take note of Andre Dawkins and Seth Curry. They have a ton of size but are SOOO passive, but can get there shot over smaller defenders at 6’7 and 6’6 respectively. They got schooled by Dawkins and Curry.
Barnes is a monster. He played that game on a sprained ankle. He just needs to learn how to turn it on and keep it on all the time. When he wants to he is the best player in the country and there is no stopping him. The only thing that holds himself back is himself. If he can learn to not hold himself back…look out.
Henson has worked on his midrange game.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/09/2012 - 8:22am #633874
sheltwon3ParticipantAustin Rivers is a beast but he is a undersized shooting guard right now and no matter what he does in college, that will not change anything unless he works on being a combo guard and he may need another year like Stephon Curry to actually show that.
Everyone can score in the NBA so he may not have the same role plus he need to work on defense. Jimmer lit up college but he is not doing the same in the NBA and he stayed 4 years granted he is not the same level physically and Rivers. Jimmer is also not that bad of a passer now then he maybe was as a freshmen.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/09/2012 - 8:33am #633876
cabbycabParticipantThis site’s comparison to Doc is ridiculous. Their games could not be more different.
As someone mentioned, he is in the same class as Jamal Crawford. Mind you, I think Crawford is pretty darn good….just not someone to build a franchise around.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/09/2012 - 8:45am #633878
Ghost01ParticipantDude who posted the A Davis video- My apologies, he did have acouple of put backs and tip ins- So hes DeAndre Jordan with a hell of alot less size. Thats No.1 pick worthy, surely.
I dont get the "He’s not Wade or Monta level"
Wade and Monta are not the same level. Wade is a much more complete player and has accomplished so much in this league. Monta’s a scorer on a lottery team. I think he can absolutely be Monta Ellis, but I really doubt he’ll be Dwyane Wade. He’s going to be undersized, but like these two guys, his good ball handling skills and explosiveness will make up for it.The thing I love about this kid is, hes absolutely CLUTCH. He has come up huge every time Duke has been in a close game, and this was a signature shot for sure. He will be a good NBA player. Don’t know if that means boarderline all star at best, or flat-out superstar. But he will be good.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/09/2012 - 8:54am #633885
mcbaileyParticipantAnyone who thinks Rivers never goes inside clearly hasn’t watched him play enough. That was all he DID do at the start of the season. Just because he’s getting more comfortable with one aspect of his game doesn’t mean that he’s completely shifted to that side.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/09/2012 - 8:55am #633886
King CatParticipantRivers had one of the better single performances of the season but I think people are getting a little too excited about that game (understandable because it was so recent). We’re forgetting about Sunday’s game where Rivers was shutout during the overtime, shot 1 for 7 from three, and couldn’t hit the freethrows late in a home game. My biggest issue with Rivers game since I first saw him as a senior in HS is his reluctancy to pass the ball. On the season he has 56 Turnovers to just 49 Assists and that’s not really acceptable for a guard in his position especially on a team with no true point.
Duke North Carolina was one of the most exciting games of the season, but it was not a good game in regards to the basketball being played. Carolina played like trash in the second half and their defense was awful in guarding the three. No respectable team should ever let an opponent come into their house and drop 14 3s.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/11/2012 - 10:58am #635203
uknationParticipantSo let me get this straight. this game was better even thoug was up for most of it and Duke didn’t ccome back till the end? So thats better than a UK UNC game that goes back and forth to the last minute??
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/11/2012 - 11:37am #635232
akhan786ParticipantI’m a bit biased (hell you’re biased too uknation) but Wednesday’s game was so far the game of the season and the one that people will remember for decades.
We witnessed one of the greatest comebacks, with one of the greatest shots, in THE greatest rivalry in college basketball. Added to that the underdog came into the #1 preseason team’s building and had aruably UNC’s most hated freshman Duke player ever hit a dagger that will be remembered for years to come.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/11/2012 - 11:40am #635234
Future_Scoutcut it out, that is your opinion. maybe for some people a comeback led by a freshman on a way more talented team is more historic and exiting than a a game going back and forth between elite talented teams. its your opinion, i understand
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/11/2012 - 11:45am #635238
uknationParticipantAustin Rivers is what Terrell stoglin woul dbe if he was 3 inch’s taller, vice versa if Rivers was 3in shorter
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/11/2012 - 11:54am #635243
Future_Scoutwow all that over attacking the rim at the beginning of the season had me thinking austin had a broken jumper. now all he does is shoot, very nice off the dribble too. its good to know he can de both very well
