Austin Daye

Austin Daye is on the move, yet again.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Toronto Raptors and Austin Daye have agreed to a two-year, $2 million deal.

Daye, a 6’11 200 (via Basketball Reference) forward, is 25 years old heading into his fifth season in the NBA. The lanky forward received Tayshaun Prince comparisons coming out of Gonzaga, but has yet to have much of an opportunity to showcase his skills.

Daye, who spent three season as a member of the Detroit Pistons, was traded to the Grizzlies midway through last season in the deal that brought Rudy Gay to the Toronto Raptors. Now, Daye will more than likely be Gay’s back-up due to Linas Kleiza being waived via amnesty provision, and Alan Anderson signing with the Brooklyn Nets last week.

Daye averages 5.6 points per game (ppg) and 2.8 rebounds per game (rpg) for his career. Last season, Daye averaged 5.1 ppg, 2.6 rpg in 24 games with the Pistons before being traded to the Grizzlies. During his stint in Memphis, Daye averaged 4 ppg and 1.9 rpg in 31 games. Daye averaged 14.5 minutes per game (mpg) in Detroit last season, but his minutes dipped to 10.6 mpg in Memphis.

Daye received interest from the Los Angeles Lakers before ultimately signing with the Raptors.

I say this was a decent signing by the raps. He will bring good size and shooting off the bench and will be an upgrade over kleiza for sure. He now just has to compete with landry fields for that backup role to rudy gay.

more like

a homeless man's Kevin Durant.

He'll just end up being bench fodder and an extra body for practice I assume. I can't see him cracking the rotation playing either as a wing or a big barring significant injuries to other players.

Another guy that looks too

Another guy that looks too good every year in the summer league but doesn't ever put it together. The KD 2.0 comparison intrigue will only keep him around for so long.

If only guys like him and Josh Selby, for example, could stick to just stick to working their bodies, playing hard and camping out in a corner on offense to hit open threes.

One thing that Austin Date

One thing that Austin Date does well is shoot threes. He shot over 41% last year. That is the only thing Austin Date does well. He never developed a game in college and lacks lateral quickness to play heavy minutes. He could find his niche as a Novak type three point shooter. Oh wait, Toronto already has that.

Meh.

Just think of Kevin Durant if he had no offensive game and could not play defense. I'd rather take a chance on a D-Leaguer.

That's Daye in a nutshell. But for a 13th-15th man, you could do worse.

HAHAHA video is HILARIOUS,

HAHAHA video is HILARIOUS, LMAO!!! Didn't read everything but suffice it to say AUSTIN DAYE IS TRAAAAAAASH and has no place in the NBA. Not even with the Rapters.

LA would have been interesting

Would had been interested to see him signing with LA since they have practically no depth so he would have seen some playing time. Also his ability to shoot the three and D'antoni system probably would have been a good fit for him. Especially since his lack of defense wouldn't have been a major problem.

Given the presence of Rudy

Given the presence of Rudy Gay, DeMar DeRozan, Terrence Ross, Steve Novak, and Landry Fields, it is going to be hard to see where the minutes would come from unless Toronto decides to shed salary. If they ultimately decide to move Rudy Gay, they would become a tankable team.
