This team is filled with individual talent.  They’ve got 3 guys who can be all-stars in any year.  Two good point guards.  Plenty of bigmen and one of the better 6th men/scorers of his time.

My question is.. Will they ever be ready to take that next step?  Or will they always be that team that never got over the last hump?

This may sound crazy, but if I were Dwight I would consider an ATL frontcourt Horford & Smith with a backcourt of Teague & Johnson

ATL wouldn’t have the money to get Dwight. More in a sign and trade, which would have to involve Horford.

I think ATL will actually blow it up this offseason. Yes, they got to round 2, but this is 3 seasons now and they have been stagnant. I think Josh Smith might get moved.

They need a true superstar…Atlanta will always be stuck in Neutral as long as Joe Johnson is there best player..They have the talent to beat anyone..But they dont play consistently together enuff to be no more than just a playoff  team…

The Hawks should try prying CP3 away from New Orleans for Joe Johnson…

They don’t need a PG. The focus should be on Center to move Horford to his natural position.

Here’s the thing everyone says the key is moving Horford to PF, the thing is they beat the Magic so there isn’t a better center they will face all year. The fact is whenever they play teams with legit centers Zaza and Jason Collins are solid enough defenders. Horford played PF the entire Bulls series and there was no change in his play. I don’t know why people think if he’s at PF full time he will all of a sudden become a 20 point scorer. Horford is a solid player who is an allstar due to being labeled a center on allstar ballots. He doesn’t have a good post up game and his best attribute is his mid range game. I am fine with him and Smith in the front court. They have worked together for a while with success. They key to the Hawks is SF. Marvin Williams is a complete bust who is below average in the regular season and invisible in the post season. Beyond him there is no depth.

I never said Horford will be a 20pt scorer but with a Legit Center that will open up more options with that offense.

Ugh I hate how they play. They have a lot of talent at many positions but their offense is so stagnant. Sure they play well when they move the ball around, as displayed in Game 4, but Joe Johnson and Crawford are such ballhogs that it messes it up all the time. Crawford is an egomaniac that thrives on isolation plays. Johnson is one of the best shooting guards in the game, but he takes his team out of the flow of the offense way too much. When Teague was driving and dishing, along with getting Josh Smith involved, that’s when I think they were at their best.

if they find a legit center and move horford to the four, i wonder how Josh Smith will pan out on the perimeter

cuz it seems to me that he is a legit powerfoward and not that good at SF
he has some perimeter skills of course, but hes not very consistent scoring the rock out out there

the main reason they lost the Bulls series was Crawford, he was absolute disaster, they count on him to give them offense and he didn’t give them nothing, he only hurt the team and was overwhelm by Bulls defense so much.

add to this Marvin Williams who is also useless offensively they were lack another offensive punch.

as for next season, i think with Jeff Teague rise and Kirk Hinrich play they in very good shape at PG position, Joe Johnson is still a borderline allstar, Smith and Horford are great frontline most of the time.

what they need to do in the offseason imo, is to find another player to give them offense on the wing(J.R. Smith???)Crawford just isn’t good enough for playoff level, and to sign a shooting bigman that can guard inside to give them opportunity to go big and play Smith at the 3 in some matchups(Troy Murphy!!!).
