circumlocution75ParticipantIf Phila had even the lowest NBA level guard Okafor would have scored 40+ tonight easy…. Wiggins rescued the T-Wolves late – he was Amazing….. Phila could not get Okafor the ball in the 2nd half…. Their guards are so bad it’s almost indescribable….
Okafor: 25 points 12 rebounds 2 blocks 10/15 FG’s 5/7 Ft’s
Towns: 6 points 2 rebounds 2 blocks 3/7 Fg’s 0/0 FT’s
Okafor should have had about 3 more "and 1’s" – when he’s got a couple years in the league he’s going to live at the Free Throw line b/c the Refs just don’t give him many calls right now….
Okafor just killed Towns at Both ends of the court….

DukeDaSquadParticipantIsnt that because he was in foul trouble cause he was having troubles defending okafor? I didn’t watch the game so im just wondering.

SkalAndJamalParticipanteh that’s part of it but it was more because Dieng was playing solid. But ill give it to Okafor he was the best big on the floor tonight.

circumlocution75ParticipantI’m sure they’ll battle for a Dozen years w/ each taking turns getting the better of each other…… They are both amazing prospects….. Okafor was so good tonight though….. It’s such a waste seeing him on the Sixers…. I Luv Minnesota’s young core….

tuck243ParticipantI’m almost certain Hinkie is telling these Guards not to pass the ball to Jah late in games. I don’t understand how he can legit dominate all game and they refuse to give him the ball in the post for the last 5 minutes. From what I’m told this is constantly happening, so it has to be more than they’re inadequate.

SlickBouncePassParticipanttouching the ball almost every possession with the other crap they have on the team. The team needs to learn how to move around him when he gets doubled. At least pass it to him, get him the tocuh, let him take the double, and then cut to the bucket and finish strong.
Somehow Hollis Thompson is puting up shots late…smdh.
Hope he’s cut next year.

NBAjunkie81Participantwere building brick houses under that rim in the 4th qtr –
Meanwhile Okafor….. who was Dominant on Offense….. & really impressive on Defense, Rebounding & foul shooting (3 things were told he could Not do)…….
Is begging for the ball w/ two T-Wolves draped on him at all times & a 3rd sagging his way…….
And Canaan & Thompson barely glance Big Jah’s way before jacking up another brick from outside…..

circumlocution75Participanton Okafor in that 4th qtr…. they were just giving their guards wide open shots & Phila’s other players could not hit a single shot down the stretch…. But if Okafor even wanted to Touch the ball he had to go all the way out to the 3 point line…..
I’ve Never seen worse guards than what Phila has…. Iasaiah Canaan & T.J. Mcconnell can not pentrate at all… & at the defensive ends their man goes by them so easy it’s like they’re not even there…. Okafor or Noel rush into the lane to stop an easy lay up & the guard just dishes to a teammate for a wide open 3 or an easy dunk….
I know Wroten & Marshal are not great players but they are both at least NBA back ups… I don’t anyway Phila wins a game until they get back… I think Hinkie is somewhere loving this….
But my Lord, when Okafor has another decent scorer on that team w/ him, he’s just going to destroy teams in the post…. I don’t wanna get killed for hyperbole but he’s got so many post moves… He is so fun to watch…. & his emotions Never change, he is all business…

TrillaParticipantThough he has been great on offense, disturbing stat about Jah. With him on the court, the Sixers are 28th in the league in defensive efficieny. With him off the court, they are 2nd. Yes it has been a small sample size thus far, but it is something worth talking about.

NBAjunkie81Participant& he leads the team in blocked shots…. I’m saying he’s Rudy Gobert, but he’s played Much better than advertised…. I don’t know what he or Noel are supposed to do when their entire guard rotation are human turnstiles…..
You have a link for that stat b/c I find it hard to believe the Sixers are 2nd in defensive efficiency w/ ANY line up combination…. They are the worst perimeter defenders I’ve ever seen on one team….

NBAjunkie81ParticipantI can only go by my eyes & the article speaks to what drives me nuts about espn…. Chad Ford was high on Porzingus before the Draft so he’s gonna look for things to go against Okafor….
Still they mention in the Article – that Okafor is poor rotating in help defense but he will block the occasional shot – He LEADS the team in shot blocking…… And the Guards are SO bad on defense…. the opponents are so deep in the lane before anyone can get there… Noel’s shot blocking numbers have plummeted from 2.3 to 1.0 b/c of this fact….
He’s averaging almost 8 rebounds per game & according to the coach he wants him to block out so Noel can grab more rebounds…. & then deep in the article that "Okafor has actually done quite well in man to man defense around the rim…."
I’ve watched several Sixers, Knicks, Lakers & T-Wolves games b/c that’s where the top 4 picks went…. & I can promise you the Sixers are no better on defense w/ Okafor out of the game…. I have a strong feeling that article was Shaped to support a narrative….
Another post above suggested that Hinkie is keeping these guards IN the game b/c they are so bad they make it impossible for the Sixers to win….
This team is bad – I mean ALL Time bad…. So they are down by 30 points & Okafor comes out of the game & the other team has back ups in & Chad Ford wants to float those #’s as a story….???
I know what I saw w/ my eyes tonight & I agree w/ the people above…. Okafor Destroyed Towns…. & the Refs cut the T-Wolves some breaks… He killed Towns at the Offensive end & Towns just was not strong enough to get position at the Def end….
This guy is 25+ ppg 10 reb a night Center in the NBA & Chad Ford suggests Phila should trade him b/c of some obscure partial stat on an 0-14 team…. Sorry I’m not buying it…

theballerwayParticipantBut Okafor dominated him while he was in there. As said Towns wasnt able to get any rythm going because of the foul trouble. To be honest though Towns will (probably) never be a better post player than Okafor his intrigue is in his face up and shooting skills which he did not get a chance to display. On a couple playes it was like Okafor knew what move he was going to do before Towns could even do it and blocked him.
If Okafor can get that foul line Jumper ‘Ohhh my’ its gonna get silly.
I still prefer townns long term but their development is going tp be a pleasure to watch.
Wiggins is looking comfy too. (also scary)

tuck243Participantlooked frustrated and smacked a teammate’s dap away. And I feel him… You can tell he hates losing and is getting the short end of the stick since falling to #3 in the draft. How does a 6-11 Center, who dominates HS, then college as a freshman, win a National Championship, and with moves like Timmy in the low post get selected 3rd in the draft?.. Then of all places to the 76ers, a team whose motto is to be as bad as possible to get as many lottery picks as possible. Add the fact his teammates refuse to get him the ball when they need to, OUCH. I feel for him man… Even when you do everything right… It’s still not enough…

shaped to support a narrative fully supported by stats that show the PHI defense is night and day better with Okafor off the court. You’re the one trying to shape a narrative despite the stats.

tuck243ParticipantChad Ford isn’t credible enough for me to believe him after learning he switches his mock drafts from previous drafts. He clearly has an agenda especially since he wants Jahlil to do bad to prove he’s right.
Also, I’m just curious about it. Advance stats doesn’t show the entire picture (in fact I hate people who uses this as their primary argument, especially the PER 36 stat).
At the end of the day, the 76ers are BAD… The stat doesn’t mean much because they’re still not going to win games. It’s irrelevant. Just something that make you go hmm….

FrankStalloneguys like Okafor can hide their bad d from the eye test, because when Okafor doesn’t get back on defense it’s not him that somebody is scoring a layup on. And in the half court, if he’s way to slow on a rotation, it’s not him that’s getting scored on, or blamed for the score according to the fans’ eye test.

NBAjunkie81ParticipantWe may all break each other’s stones on here but I know that you know your stuff…. He Dominated Towns last night at Both ends… & He’s a Much better player on defense & the article even states that "Okafor has surprisingly good man to man defense around the rim…"
That’s his responsibility…. It’s a cherry picked stat – that team is often down by 30 points in the 3rd quarter… they take out Okafor & the scrubs from the other team come in & Phila ends up losing the game by 15 instead of 30…
I like the analytics but sometimes you have to trust your eyes & the Center position is the Only position Phila has any type of NBA players…. The Guards on that team are undersized, slow & have zero interest in even trying to play defense…. the lane at Defensive end for Phila is like a Run way….
Why do u think Noel’s blocks per game have dropped from 2.3 to 1.0???
Okafor Leads the Sixers in: Scoring, Rebounding, FG% & Blocks – what else does he need to do???

FrankStalloneHelp defense is more important than man defense in the post against centers, because there’s only a handful or less of centers that are great post scorers. This is why the basketball world was drooling over WCStein and why they thought he would be so valuable in the NBA. It wasn’t because of his man defense against centers, that’s for sure.
And the advanced stats show just how much more valuable quick feet and help defense is compared to individual man defense for centers. 6ers especially could use a feet-moving center more than a decent man defender with minimal ability to help defend.
Which is why their defense is so much better with him off the court.
Porzingis is better than Okafor and Towns, and Okafor beating Towns in a man-to-man matchup doesn’t change that. Porzingis has a lot more length to stuff Okafor, and a lot more range to draw Okafor out to the 3 point line, where he can either shoot over him or blow by him off the dribble. Or just score over the top anywhere else on the court. But most importantly, Porzingis is an all nba level defender, especially in help defense switching onto positions 1-5 with ease, patience, athleticism, focus, and discipline. He doesn’t even go for the block most of the time, he’s just really patient and knows that making his opponent miss is a better strategy than trying to block everything.

phila9012ParticipantI just saw wiggins to continue to score and to lead the twolves to a win. He is playing great this year, far ahead of most expectations. He is scoring 26 ppg on 48% shooting in his last 9 games. He struggled to start the year but he has picked it up. I think he has a decent chance to be playing in the all star game if he keeps this up or even continues at his season average of 22ppg. I was not expecting this scoring this early, I thought this would be another year or 2 away at least. He seems to have the championship mentality. He has taken over games in the fourth quarter a few times. All of this before he is 21.
