Anthony Davis USA
Played pretty well in the 4th, maybe with this confidence and good showing, Coach K might be more inclined to play him meaningful minutes instead of at the end of a 40-50 point win.
Hope he still plays in the Vegas SL. Ant has decent range on his jumper just needs to make it more consistent and try not to fall in love with shooting the 3 ball. He has some decent lateral quickness as well, a lot of big guys in the league don't have that and it's obviously a skill he retained after his growth spurt. 9 Pts in 9 min, that's good production although I would've liked more boards (he only had 1) but I guess that'll come with more PT.
for DR looks pretty good at the end too. He didn't back down from Davis. Being only a Soph in HS it's easy to see why he is so highly rated.
I knew the game was going to be a blow out, but Karl Towns surprised me with some good plays here and there. For a 16 year old matched up against NBA talent, and not just average NBA Talent, these are the cream of the crop, he did hold his own. This young man will be a force in the upcoming years.
Calipari proving to be the best recruiter in the nation yet again no matter how slimey his tactics are...
Karl Towns is the BEST player in 2015 and I'm sure he's already taken a liking to Calipari.
Genius move by Cal to put Towns on the team.
If he can develop quick enough and pick up the system he could help out a lot especially when Chandler gets in early foul trouble like that.
Davis wasn't scoring on Towns because he wasnt getting isolation plays. He scored off of non plays run for him which is a good thing. The only verdict thats out is how much of a star he will be. He couldnt get many boards because every time he was in position the shots would go in. I doubt he plays ahole lot during the olympics unless someone gets into fould trouble. He's the last man in the rotation so hopefully people don't expect to see him get much time
Anthony Davis >>>> Nerlens Noel >>>>> Karl Towns.
Coach Cal has figured out NCAA basketball. He is basically like the LA Lakers on the college level. He just keeps reloading.
... A.D. looked solid in limited minutes. That 3 pointer he hit was pure. He also had that put back in traffic. I think he will gradually add strength and muscle. He could be looking really, really good in two or three years. I think he is also the odds on favorite for ROY this upcoming season.
I have been on the A.D. Olympic team bandwagon for months, before Bill Simmons and everyone else. I still think that he would be a great fit and would really benefit. Too bad though that it would come at Blake Griffin's expense. Tyson Chandler and Iggy were some other guys I had. I think I put Westbrook too. I didn't have Harden but I had expected Wade and/or Bosh to be able to play.
All this NBA talent at our disposal and team US brings Davis. I can understand passing on Cousins because he seems a little crazy, but again if you have him on the select team you have to be considering him. This isn't the 92 dream team where you can just hand out a spot because of college accolades. Guys are falling like flies and even though David Stern is the closest thing to a saint, I think he is completely wrong in stating that the way the season was constructed did not cause more injuries. Davis isn't ready and they should have saved room for someone that is.
Someone thats ready? Why add another NBA guy when he would be the 13th man on the rotation roster? Why not add a young kid who coul dbe the future of you're Olympics. A young kid that most people know because of college and because of that you can give him more exposure and make more money marketing him? On top of that you add a potential need which is shot blocking on top of a guy who has a high motor who can be effective without getting the ball. Its not about who is more talented or else Chandler wouldn't be on the team its about team need and what strengths you bring to the table as well as the future
Kid is going to be good. The experience and friendship he's getting with team USA right now is only going to help his progress further. Gotta appreciate great basketball, man I loved watching every second of that game.
For the Davis doubters you have to say it is kind of amazing that when they need a big man they aren't looking for Bynum or McGee or Lamarcus Aldridge or Brook Lopez, instead the US Team goes for Davis and there is no backlash or second guessing about picking the rookie who had only one year of college experience.
In my opinion, the Davis arguments are weak outside of getting him more exposure. I wonder if his inclusion in the first place was part of the deal to sell the team. "You will get the first pick and we will get him as much exposure as possible. We will make him part of the select team."
Anyways, I agree that it's not always about the best players, but you are taking a thin framed guy that is a post player and only weighs maybe 220. The best player he physically played against was Thomas Robinson. Eh? I think it would be easier to get away with being physically weaker in the NBA, but the international game is more physical. I would have been fine bringing in an old man like Marcus Camby. He can still rebound and block shots off the bench and he does it on the highest level already. While the crop to choose from is thin, you have far better and more ready options in case you need them. You don't waste spots, you make sure depth is covered and flexibility to matchup.
I got negged for saying that the Irving draft class was weak. Well so was the most recent draft. A lot of these guys were drafted in hopes of complimenting a star. It was deep in NBA role players. The guy that most people seem to agree will be the 2nd best player(MKG) in this draft will likely at best be a super role player type. He's not the man, but he's a really good number 2. At worst he's a high energy hustle glue guy. Those are not bad things, but it says a lot about this draft. The guy that is getting projected as a hall of famer was getting pushed around at times by scrubs. I'm not saying he can't improve, but for a guy that was a former guard, he's not that fluid. Dominance in college doesn't always translate to the NBA. If it did Christian Laettner would have been a surefire Hall of Famer.
