SmooveKRYPTParticipantWoj just tweeted that the T’Wolves and Anthony Bennett are working on a buyout for the final 2 years of his deal. Didn’t see this coming as he looked quite good for team Canada this summer. I guess he was still way down on the depth chart and they’re giving him an opportunity to find a better situation.
What’s next for the kid? Philly and Portland both have the cap $ to claim him off waivers before he hits free agency. If he does hit the market there’s a few teams I think he could get bench minutes for, PHX, MIL, Washington, Toronto, maybe Indy or Detroit would take a flyer. Also what kind of contract will he command?

nill650Participanthe needs to add this to his game, and probably will in time, but unfortunately most of his 3’s made in the nba are not 3’s they are college 3’s.

Bridge83ParticipantI’m not sure who will pick him up, but I doubt it’s the Pacers as they already have too many players on the roster.

SandWhere does he rank on the all time bust list.
Not including injured busts like Bowie Oden.
1 step below Darko and Kandyman

JR RyderParticipantTo be honest, his draft class of 2013 was so weak that Im not sure I can rank Bennett in top 5 of biggest draft bust ever. Yes he is a huge bust, but if you look at other players in his class, a lot of them are turning out to be bust as well (Otto Porter, Ben Mclemore, Trey Burke, Cody Zeller). One of the worst draft class of all time.

IlladelphParticipantI wouldn’t call McLemore, Porter, and Zeller busts quite yet. That’s a little harsh. Bennett? Yes it appears that he is now officially a bust. #1 pick, and 2 years later he hasn’t done much and is bought out and sent packing.
It’s weird, because I never really saw him play college ball, and so I never got the whole Anthony Bennett as #1 pick overall hype. Looking back, I don’t know what was so special about him. I would’ve taken Nerlens Noel ahead of him. I hope he catches on somewhere. He is still very young, and may still develop yet into a 10 minute bench type player. Plenty of those guys hang out in the NBA for years.

T RexAll those guys were always overrated, and guys like Olynyk, Schroeder, Greek Freak, Rudy Gobert, and Mason Plumlee were always underrated.
It drives me nuts when a draft class is trashed, just because the guys wrongly ranked at the top of the draft suck.
Same thing happened this year. Just because Russell and Winslow and Mudiay were overrated, didn’t mean the draft wasn’t 25-35 deep with very nice NBA talent.

ZachAttackParticipantI wouldn’t call Trey Burke a bust. And that’s not just my Jazz bias. He has slightly underachieved, but you can’t really call him a bust. His averages 13 points 5 assists and not even 2 turnovers. Plus I see him getting better. This coming year, knowing it may be his last in Utah if he can’t straighten things up should be enough motivation for him to be better than ever. And Burke always steps up to the plate in clutch situations and I think right now, it’s more important than ever.

NBAjunkie81Participantlarger point that b/c there were no Superstar / Franchise pieces in 2013 how can we ….. (you know the rest) But Noel & Gobert are Elite level rim protectors & dominant defensive freaks right now – & both men – in addition blocking 2.5 shots per game closed the year averaging close to 14 points & 12 rebounds while shooting 50% – And many would put the Greek Freak at least even & many put him ahead of those two young studs….. I know the top of the Draft was weak & that’s not Bennet’s fault but there was some excellent talent in that 2013 Draft…

nill650Participantthere was no one to speak of taken after AB that has done much either,so it is yet to be determined how much of a bust he will be considered longterm. yeah if he never improves his 3’s from nba range instead of college 3’s range…and if he does’nt learn to play Defense, he will be a top 10 bust.

T RexGobert, Greek Freak, Nerlens, Len, Oladipo, Olynyk, Dennis Schroeder, Mason Plumlee, lots of guys drafted after Bennett aren’t getting bought out and praying to even stay in the NBA.
Practically all of them, in fact.
People really reaching for excuses to justify their being so high on Bennett before the draft.
The same people who still say Otto Porter was a great pick at #3.
If history proves you wrong, just change the history. Is that it?
LOL at Bennett not being a terrible bust of a #1 pick.
That draft was deep, it just wasn’t star heavy at the top. Mostly because of guys like Bennett and Porter getting drafted way, way too high.

ExumInfernoParticipantThat is my pick. But he would be behind Patterson and Scola, and Carroll and Johnson can also play some power forward. Raptors get him for some publicity, maybe sell a few more tickets, and maybe try to transform him into more of a small forward. Not sure that will work, he would have to try to extend his range.

HitsterParticipantI don’t see Portland claiming him off waivers as they might possibly make a last gap run for Tristan Thompson or save cap space to absorb a salary dump for an asset.
Philly have tons of cap space and might take a punt on him as they have a gap at SF and have already taken Stauskas in a similar situation.
If Bennett does clear waivers, he’ll get a fair bit of interest given his age and possible upside.

MopgrassParticipantI agree that he wouldn’t end up in Portland. They went through the trouble of freeing up cap space. They barely tried to get Aldridge back. Seems like they’re trying to save $.
The 6ers are an interesting choice. Usually they hold cap space so they can take on salary in exchange for a low level 1st round draft pick. Is there a low level 1st rounder in the 2016 draft with more upside than Bennett? Maybe. Bennett is probably less of a gamble. I don’t see why Phillie wouldn’t do it.
Their only offensive players are Okafor and Wroten. One more is a decent idea.

RUDEBOY_Participantim sure some team will grab him..
maybe he should spend some time overseas to get his confidence back….just to get away from the pressure of the nba….
while he has failed to live up to being the number 1 pick…he does have some nice offensive skills, that under the right coach and in the right system he might thrive as a contributor off the bench….

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantHe is not a small forward in todays NBA. He just doesn’t have the quickness to defend wing players. If he has a future in the league, its definitely as a small ball 4 who can use his speed and explosiveness to create mismatches. In order to do that, he needs to improve his outside shooting and overall bball iq. He also needs to be able to get consistent mins and generate actual game experience. He seems like he would be a perfect fit for philly, where he would be a low risk pickup for a team where he would be able to get mins.
0- Posted on: Tue, 09/22/2015 - 1:01pm #1014632
nill650ParticipantI agree with most of what you stated, he definitely is’nt doing himself any favors being on a playoff team at the end of the bench, unless of course its Cleveland, one season with the King is like a diamond compared to goint o a team where he gets lots of playing time like philly, but does’nt have any veteran mentors.
This guy by the shear fact of being picked high,is in fact being undervalued now because of it. He was actually drafted by mike brown to be a small ball 4 and play some 3. That really is not his game.Bennett is long 7’3" wingspan short 6,7" tall and very athletic linebacker built machine. I think his problem is lack of bb iq at this point, and maybe not enough motor. Heck he already got paid

CynthiaParticipantAs expected he is going to sign with the Raptors for around 1 million. Hasn’t been made official yet but next best thing, should be official in a few days.
I think it’s a good move, maybe being back in Canada will light a fire under his arse, I hope it works out well for him. I almost feel sorry for the guy, he should not have been taken #1 and everyone knew it except the Cavs. If he was picked around #8 people wouldn’t really be talking about him or calling him such a bust.
This will definitely be his last chance in the NBA, good luck!
