Woj just tweeted that the T’Wolves and Anthony Bennett are working on a buyout for the final 2 years of his deal. Didn’t see this coming as he looked quite good for team Canada this summer. I guess he was still way down on the depth chart and they’re giving him an opportunity to find a better situation.
What’s next for the kid? Philly and Portland both have the cap $ to claim him off waivers before he hits free agency. If he does hit the market there’s a few teams I think he could get bench minutes for, PHX, MIL, Washington, Toronto, maybe Indy or Detroit would take a flyer. Also what kind of contract will he command?

  he needs to add this to his game,and probably will in time, but unfortunately most of his 3’s made in the nba are not 3’s they are college 3’s.

I’m not sure who will pick him up, but I doubt it’s the Pacers as they already have too many players on the roster.

  To be honest, his draft class of 2013 was so weak that Im not sure I can rank Bennett in top 5 of biggest draft bust ever. Yes he is a huge bust, but if you look at other players in his class, a lot of them are turning out to be bust as well (Otto Porter, Ben Mclemore, Trey Burke, Cody Zeller). One of the worst draft class of all time.

    It’s weird, because I never really saw him play college ball, and so I never got the whole Anthony Bennett as #1 pick overall hype. Looking back, I don’t know what was so special about him. I would’ve taken Nerlens Noel ahead of him. I hope he catches on somewhere. He is still very young, and may still develop yet into a 10 minute bench type player. Plenty of those guys hang out in the NBA for years.

      It drives me nuts when a draft class is trashed, just because the guys wrongly ranked at the top of the draft suck.
      Same thing happened this year. Just because Russell and Winslow and Mudiay were overrated, didn’t mean the draft wasn’t 25-35 deep with very nice NBA talent.

    I wouldn’t call Trey Burke a bust. And that’s not just my Jazz bias. He has slightly underachieved, but you can’t really call him a bust. His averages 13 points 5 assists and not even 2 turnovers. Plus I see him getting better. This coming year, knowing it may be his last in Utah if he can’t straighten things up should be enough motivation for him to be better than ever. And Burke always steps up to the plate in clutch situations and I think right now, it’s more important than ever.

  there was no one to speak of taken after AB that has done much either,so it is yet to be determined how much of a bust he will be considered longterm. yeah if he never improves his 3’s from nba range instead of college 3’s range…and if he does’nt learn to play Defense, he will be a top 10 bust.

Philly have tons of cap space and might take a punt on him as they have a gap at SF and have already taken Stauskas in a similar situation.
If Bennett does clear waivers, he’ll get a fair bit of interest given his age and possible upside.

im sure some team will grab him..
maybe he should spend some time overseas to get his confidence back….just to get away from the pressure of the nba….
while he has failed to live up to being the number 1 pick…he does have some nice offensive skills,that under the right coach and in the right system he might thrive as a contributor off the bench….

He is not a small forward in todays NBA. He just doesn’t have the quickness to defend wing players. If he has a future in the league, its definitely as a small ball 4 who can use his speed and explosiveness to create mismatches. In order to do that, he needs to improve his outside shooting and overall bball iq. He also needs to be able to get consistent mins and generate actual game experience. He seems like he would be a perfect fit for philly, where he would be a low risk pickup for a team where he would be able to get mins.

Bennett was lazy and overweight and it doesn’t help that he has asthma and sleep apnea. He is a tweener without much of a skill set.
