If only he didn’t get that major injury.

It feels like his career went away as fast as it came.  At Memphis, Larry Bird called him the best prospect in America ( I believe after the Olympic scrimmages ).  He had at least one ridiculous one hand behind the head pass to Shaq each game.

Reggie Miller and Kenny Smith have both said he was one of the best ball handlers in the game. My friends told me how good he is, but I didn’t believe someone that is the perfect size SG could be a full time PG. Until I actually got the chance to watch him.

I never got to see him play when he was in the NBA, but from all the videos I’ve seen he’s kind of like a taller Iverson.

Not even close.  Young Penny was more of a creator and playmaker than a scorer.  Outside of consistently shooting the 3, there wasn’t much Penny couldn’t do on the floor. His handle, footwork, creativity, vision and his ability to post were off the charts good.  He could’ve been one of the best all-around players of the post-Jordan era, something like the KG of PGs imo.

I meant more-so his handles, agility, and overall flashy playstyle.

It’s hard to watch this and not think about what could’ve been. Penny was one of those special players that come around only once in a while. His situation was practically identical to Grant Hill’s. Both the fans and players were robbed of these two spectacular talents due to injuries. Those Orlando Magic teams of the mid-90s were terrifying too. They had Shaq, Penny, Dennis Scott, Nick Anderson, Horace Grant, even Donald Royal played well while starting for them in 94-95.

I had Penny 1st and his 4th sneakers. They were my favorites. I have always wanted Iverson sneakers, but never got the chance to get them.

Penny was sick!! I saw him in the airport recently. I heard he still plays ball every now and then and controls the floor… Do anybody think he could’ve went down as a top 10? He possessed every skill on the court, and had those huge hands like MJ that allowed them to basically extend and control the ball while in the air with ease.

Penny was one of the first players who’s game just had me going crazy lol. I loved everything… His style, flash, flair and all-around ability. The dude just played the game in a way that was coo. I had his shoes, jerseys, everything.

The young Penny and young 20, 10 and 5 KG are two of my most favorite players of all-time… Oh and the Orlando T-Mac. Those three players had me going crazy.

Penny was so unique, that there really isnt a perfect comparision for him…Some have said George Gervin, they had similar built, which at times made them look alike..But Gervin was more of a scorer…Comparing him to Allen Iverson is WAY OFF…The best 1 i’ve heard, was a more athletic Magic Johnson…

I remember in 1997,a reporter asked Micheal Jordan, who he felt was the next best guard in the nba after him? Jordan said it was a tough call between Penny & Jason Kidd..But he gave the edge to Penny because he said he saw a little of himself in Penny’s game…

He accomplished more from 1993-1998,then alot of other players did for their entire careers..Maybe good enough to get him in the Hall 1 day:
