There seems to be a lot of misconceptions regarding the hype machine that is Andrew Wiggins. As your resident, but pretty real KU fan, who is the guy that watches every game, including two exhibtions, I just want to set the record straight for all you youtube and mixtape scouts.

    1. Andrew Wiggins is not just an athlete.

Mr Wiggins is an extremely exciting prospect because paired with his athletic ability his existing skillset matured a couple years is very jaw dropping. Yes, he can do amazing things from a leaping standpoint, but he can also cross someone over, do a variety of spin moves, know when to kick out of a double team, hit a 23 footer, and look like he was born to hit a free throw. No, he’s not an 18 year old Tim Duncan or Steve Nash, but the dude has a ton of room to grow on top of a pretty versitile skillset for someone his age.

    2. Andrew Wiggins is an amazing athlete.

You know those guys that just kind of find a way to make a play, and it really is only because they are a little taller, or a little longer, or a little more athletic than the guys around them? Wiggins is that guy. Paul George was the same way in college. There was a loose ball fast break at the end of the game tonight, and trust me, a 6’8” guy doing a flat footed dunk isn’t impressive, but Wiggins is extremely long, by the time his arms were above his head, he looked like a 7 footer. He plays a little half assed at times ( see I’m being objective ) but holy crap, he hasn’t had to be a freak yet….he can, though. I’ve seen the signs, he’s gonna do something soon, that makes people’s jaws fall off.

    3. He’s not going to wow you the first time you see him ( Unless you slackers don’t watch college ball until March).

He’s just not. He’s not there, but give this kid til January, and he’ll be blowing people’s socks off. He’s already embracing Bill Self’s defensive scheme, and will be a complete stopper by mid season. He’s showing signs now, he isn’t even close to hitting his stride, but he’s showing he can do a little bit of everything.

    4. Perry Ellis or Wayne Selden are not going to lead KU in scoring.

Shut up. Stop being contrarions. I hate hype too, but seriously….shut up.

He let the game come to him, played hard on D, only thing I was disappointed in was the missed left hand layup at the rim other than that solid debut.

I was impressed with all the freshmen Jabri Parker was lights out scored a sick alley oop from the highlights i saw so much for not being an athlete … Julius Randle had a monster 23 and 15 game dudes a beast and Wiggins impressed me too showing off his defensive potential with 3 steals … can’t wait for that Wiggins vs Parker matchup next week

Yea I agree Wiggins is good and is more than just an athlete, but he does have alot of growing to do. The only thing I am worried about are the complaints about his motor… hopefully he doesnt disappoint.

It’s a promising sign that he scored 16 points when he really only showed some aggression for about a 5 minute stretch. As the season progresses we will see the big things we expected to see from Wiggins.

Paul George is tearing it up right now, but he was never a true dominator in college, had 14ppg and 6rpg during his time at Freson State.  In his first year in the league he was stuck behind Granger and only made All-Rookie 2nd team behind Gary Neal and Landry Fields.  While adjusting to full-time small forward in his 3rd year he struggled a little bit with efficiency with a 42% mark from the field.  He like Wiggins has always been a ridiculous athlete but the offensive and defensive playmaking ability has always been there.  I wouldn’t be surprised if Wiggins had a similar career path (aside from coming off the bench in year one).

People have to remember that soo much of college basketball is the coaches system.  Wiggins will have to fit into a system and if he proves he is willing, the coach will let him be himself, in spots, within the system.  People who dont get basketball forget this.  In the NBA, coaches use a serise of quick hitters, isos, and freelance pick-n-roll fast breaks.  It lets guys really put their skills on display and allows them to flourish if they can.

Wiggins, like Paul George, will have better NBA numbers than college numbers.
