torontoraptors10ParticipantThe New York Knicks are close to a trade with the Toronto Raptors for Andrea Bargnani.
The Knicks would send Marcus Camby, Steve Novak, a first round pick and a second round pick to the Raptors.
The Raptors have attempted to trade Bargnani for several months and several other teams have expressed interest recently.
A handshake deal between the Raptors and Knicks could come shortly.
Bargnani is owed $22.5 million over the next two seasons.

KHAM83ParticipantIt’s a low risk-high reward deal for ny. Barnagni only has two years left on his contract, while Novak is an additional year of 4 million. This may help out since Barnagni can spread the floor, but the best part is summer of 2015, ny has over 60 million coming off the books at the same time. Amare and Mello 20 million each, Chandler 13 million, Barnagni 10 million.

DolanCareParticipantI like the trade for my Knicks. But wow are we going to suck on defense. Melo, Stoudemire, Barganani – I can’t think of 3 players worse at defending the pick and roll.

Ny2daDeathOFmeParticipanti dont know how i feel about this trade i really liked novak. He didnt have a great year last year, copeland took his mins so i guess if copeland resigns then i’d like this trade. I also am hopeing andre can come in this year healthy and playing with confidense.

torontoraptors10ParticipantWhy would this be a bad trade for Toronto………?
Raptors get a decent back C, we get rid of Bargnani’s horrible contract and we will suck even more to get Andrew Wiggins in next years draft.

Hector_Reyes_8ParticipantYour team has fringe All-Stars in Lowry and Gay, doubt they’ll be willing to tank. And even if you guys tank, there’s a huge logjam in your SG/SF lineup. Ross, DeRozan, Gay, Fields, Kleiza… It’ll take multiple trades to get rid of them.

Memphis MadnessParticipantMelo is better at the 4. Where does Bargs play? Off the bench at power forward, but that is Amare’s spot.
0- Posted on: Sun, 06/30/2013 - 2:44pm #810030
220ParticipantOffensively Bargnani plays like a small forward and since he really doesn’t play defense that’s not an issue either.
0- Posted on: Sun, 06/30/2013 - 9:30pm #810315
XYRYXParticipantI really have doubts that this is move makes any sense for the Knicks. Smith is gone now and they have 3 guys earning 20 million a year and playing the forward spots. This doesn’t fill any needs imo and who is going to play pg and sg now not to mention that they are a horrible defensive lineup when playing all three together.
If they prove me wrong that this works then I’m okay with that but to trade for one o the worst contracts in the league is not smart to me. It’s like Dallas trading for Ryan Anderson with Dirk on the roster…

OhCanada-ParticipantIf Toronto wants to compete for Wiggins there are still two trades to be made before a true tanking can be realized. There are alot of tanking teams to compete with. Charlotte, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Atlanta, and possibly teams like Sacramento, Detroit, Cleveland, Boston, LA Lakers, for the Wiggins/Parker/Randle sweepstakes. If they play the season out with the Roster they have I think they win more then less. Philly and Boston got worse then Toronto this year and both teams are division rivals.
I like the trade whether Toronto chooses to rebuild or stay the course with the current roster. Just keep in mind Ujiri already gutted New York’s draft picks and the first rounder acquired is likely New York’s 2016 the Nuggets have the rights to switch with thier 2016.
0- Posted on: Sun, 06/30/2013 - 2:29pm #810018
220ParticipantThe only teams that will certainly be tanking as of right now are Charlotte, Philadelphia, and Boston. There will undoubtedly be more because who wouldn’t want Andrew Wiggins or Jabari Parker.
I wouldn’t consider Atlanta to be tanking at all they are restructuring their team and they’ll still have Al Horford. They’re probably still a fringe playoff team.
Orlando is a young team and I expect them to continue to really compete night in night out like they did last year. If they’re towards the bottom next year it won’t be because of tanking…it’ll likely be because they are young and still figuring things out.
I’d be shocked to see Cleveland attempt to tank this season. If healthy they have a competitive roster and plus any of their hopes of getting Lebron James will center around them being a tough young team with a lot of good pieces. If they only win 30 games there is no chance at Lebron (although I don’t see him leaving Miami anyway).
Sacramento is a mess and Detroit is in the same category to me as Orlando. I’d be shocked to see the Lakers tank, but with Kobe likely out half the year they probably won’t need to tank because they won’t be very good especially if Dwight leaves.

NarcParticipantIts not a bad deal for the Knicks considering whom they gave up…however Bargnani doesn’t address any of the weaknesses the Knicks have, in fact to me he accentuates them. Camby barely saw the court and Novak is a specialist. The Knicks picked up a good pick and pop man. Bargnani isn’t going to stop anyone from scoring as we know, but he can knock down a jumper and is one of the better stretch big men in the league.

r377ParticipantI dont think the Raps tank, they could almost make the playoffs in the East. Remember how much better they played without Bargs…
Lowry, Derozan, Ross, Gay, JV and Amir Johnson is underrated, he had a good season last season. That squad could finish 7-10th in the East.

Ghost01ParticipantI thought Toronto was in “We are making the playoffs next year” mode, not “Wiggins” mode… Isn’t that why they got Rudy Gay, didn’t they play well down the stretch last year? The East is TERRIBLE after the top 5 teams. It won’t be too hard for someone like Toronto to be a playoff team, in my opinion.

NYK2010ParticipantHopefully they can resign JR Smith or Copeland to add some depth.
Maybe Woodson will go with a bigger lineup of
Felton/Shumpert/Melo/Bargnani/Chandler
with
Brooks, Prigioni, Hardaway Jr, JR Smith or Copeland, Amare, White, KMart

OhCanada-ParticipantUjiri hasn’t clearly stated whether he is rebuilding or not. He did say he wants to acquire alot of draft picks and always be developing young talent in a systematic fashion within the organization. Have younger players learning from the role players/vets/stars. I wouldn’t be surprised if he tears it all down by moving Derozan and Gay but I also wouldn’t be upset. If Ujiri does trade Derozan or Gay he will likely get plenty of potential value like developing talented young players and draft picks.
