If they both can come out next year… One will have played a year in the NCAA’s ( Davis ) and one just done with high school ( Drummond ) who would you take? And why?

Give me Drummond. Already has an NBA body, younger, bigger and more explosive.

I don’t understand the question, is taking away the 1 year limit something that is being considered for the new agreement? Players currently cannont come straight out of high school, what’s Drummond’s situation?

I guess depends on if you want a skilled big guy in Davis or a power player in Drummond.  If you go by this site Davis would seem to have the higher upside because they said his high side is KG.  But I think Drummond has a better chance to be like Stoudemire then Davis becoming KG. So I pick Drummond.

JoeWolf, Drummond reclassified from the 2011 class to the 2012 class making him a year older than all of his classmates because he is playing prep this year. So this will make him 19 when the next draft comes around so even though he is coming out of high school he will still have the age requirement allowing him to enter the draft.  I’m sure the decision will be challenged however but we will see.

Gotcha, thanks DRoses, I’ve been wondering what his situation was, I don’t really watch high school ball that much, but I’ll have to try to catch him sometime this year.  He looks pretty imposing from his videos

Big Men are so hard to judge coming out of High School. Because the question is are they good because they are bigger than everyone else, or can the play against anybody. Here is a list of Dominant High School BIG MEN. Some experts thought these guys would revolutionize the NBA.

Eddy Curry, Robert Swift, DeSana Diop, Kwame Brown, James Harrison, Ebi Nubi, Kendrick Perkins, Ossumane Cisse,  Even  Tyson Chandler looked like a dominant force in High school. Greg Oden (until he actually plays)

You have the Amare’s, Dwight, and Garnett who shined but they are far and few.

I would go with Davis. I like Drummond, but from seeing him play a couple times I think he’s slightly overrated. He has very good size at 6-10/250, but he’s not a true center, doesn’t have jump out of the gym athleticism, few go-to moves and his motor is questionable. I don’t think his physical tools alone qualify him as someone who can skip out on a year of college and be the top pick. Davis is longer, a much better athlete and his game screams potential; I can’t remember a guy with a better combination of ball handling and shot blocking ability. He’s just rare. If he develops a better jumper he could be on the Wall/Rose/Griffin talent spectrum.

Both have incredibly intriguing upsides, but at this point they are both considerable risks.

Davis’ body makes KD look like Dwight Howard, and he may have a bit of a position-complex. He certainly has the mobility and fluidity to play outside (as he did prior to his growth spurt), but most scouts would agree that it would be best for him to develop his body and use his skillset/athleticism to his advantage at the PF spot. He does seem to be more focused than some of the other great talents coming out of HS (Jones III, Drummond etc), so I’d say there’s a good chance he improves quite a bit this year at UK. Not to mention UK has a surplus of wings and a lack of interior players, so Davis will likely be forced to bulk up and play inside this year.

Drummond has everything it takes, on a physical level, to be the next great post man. But as we’ve seen with many elite prospects over the years, the hype often gets to those who aren’t mentally ready for it, and Drummond’s inconsistency may largely be attrubuted to that. However, when motivated, there’s no denying that he’s the most coveted prospect in the country, regardless of class.

I’m very curious to see how both of these guys turn out. Davis has all it takes to be a top 5 prospect, and I doubt he’ll mess that up. Drummond is more of a crap-shoot, but his upside as a dominant big in a league without many is too enticing to pass up. I’d take him.

Easy, Drummond.  Drummond actually does have jump out of the gym athleticism (best I can ever emember in a center prospect, and yes I am including Amare and Dwight Howard in this claim) , he is bigger than Dwight Howard (at coresponding times in their carer), and he is a very underated Rebounder and Shot Blocker.  The only question mark for Drummond is his motor which isn’t always at a top level, but that is a very easy thing to fix.

Anthony Davis may become a great player, but I dont trust big men who weight less than Chauncey Billups.

     not even close…Drummond.

Davis is very intriguing but you have to go with the big man on this one. Drummond is the type of player you draft and build around right away (i.e. Dwight Howard)….Davis really doesnt have a defined position yet…is he a wing or a power forward? and please stop comparing him to Durant…Durant is one of the best scorers in the WORLD…Davis cant even shoot yet. To me, at this stage Davis isnt even a better prospect than either Harrison Barnes or Perry Jones (imo). i think MWALLING said it best:

"Anthony Davis may become a great player, but I dont trust big men who weight less than Chauncey Billups."

You guys are wildin, I’d lean towards Drummond as well, but its not as ‘easy’ as you guys are making it seem.  Both of them have really good complete games for their position and size and have sky-high potential.

Plus, you guys act like Davis cant ever get bigger, Will he ever be as big as Dwight Howard? Highly doubt it, but I dont think he’ll be the same weight as a middle school girl his entire career.

I’m curious. Davis weight is now listed at 220. Coach Cal says he’s gonna get him to 235. Durant is listed at 230. He’s only 10more pounds than Davis and weighted less than Davis going into Texas. I don’t think Davis weight is gonna be a problem in the future. I’ll take Davis because he has less chance to be a bust because he always plays hard. Drummond barley plays hard

Everyone who keeps ripping on Davis for his slight frame must never have had a major growth spurt themselves. Davis grew 10 inches between the end of his sophomore year and the begining of his senior year! that’s crazy. It takes time to fill out your frame when that happens. I had a major growth spurt when I was about 14, growing about 6 inches in a year. After that happened I was really skinny for the next couple of years (being about 6-3, 175-180 lbs when I started high school) until I managed to naturally fill out my frame. By the time I was in my senior year of HS I was 6-5 and 220 lbs.

No Davis isn’t ever going to be Karl Malone but he is still very young (not going to be 19 for another 8 months) and will naturally put on body weight over the next few years. By the time he is 21 or 22 and ready to contribute in the NBA I expect him to be tipping the scales anywhere from 235-245lbs, which should be enough for him to handle the rigor of the NBA.

Finding an All Star Big men these days are extremely hard..Everyone saw how talented Durant was, and getting name the college player of the year as a freshman..

But Oden lead his team to the championship game..Thats why most teams look at drafting big men 1st…Becuz they can supply defense, rebounding, shot blocking and get you easy buckets….Just having a big man roaming and protecting the post ,put fear in opposing teams…

I think if Drummond is allowed to enter the draft in 2012…The only way he wont go 1st is if he gets an injury that will cause him to miss his entire rookie year…

Drummond will still go first reguardless but wont be the player that produces unless he some how’s decides to play hard more. If not he could be another Deandre Jordan which isnt bad but not good for a top pick

Imo Drummond looks alot more promising than those guys that turned out 2 be not so good. Drummond is probably 5x better then Robert Swift, DeSana Diop, Kwame Brown, James Harrison, Ebi Nubi, &Ossumane Cisse were at this time when they were in high school.
