WrecklessParticipantCan someone explain the whole Andre Drummond situation to me? In the mock they have as the projected #1 pick for 2012, but i’ve read on several sites that he wont even be enrolling in college this fall. Thanks to anyone who does.

mikeyvthedonParticipanthttp://www.nbadraft.net/5-pressing-questions-2012-draft
Basically, Andre is truly in the Class of 2011, and even if he technically plays another HS year, it could technically count as a "Post Grad" year. He is born in August of 1993, so he would be 19 by the start of the NBA season, which again should help his case if he does decide to challenge the age limit. Also, in a recent article by Jeff Goodman, it stated that Andre has not ruled out the possibility of playing in college next season. If he did, than there would indeed be no reason to have to challenge the age limit. We should know by August, but either way, he could indeed choose to enter the draft in 2012.
Here is Goodman’s article:

HobbyOGParticipantThey are trying to say in the new Collective Bargain Agreement thier is no age minimum and you don’t have to go to college for one year. That’s what the players want.

mikeyvthedonParticipantI think the age limit will still be there. If it wasn’t, I think you could count on Andre not being the only player entering the draft out of HS. Especially in a class with so many big men. Andre just is the only person willing too challenge the rule because: 1) He could apply and 2) He would more than likely be a top 3 pick. The age limit will still be there, and I do not think the site thinks otherwise at this point.
The players may want the age limit too be abolished, but I think there are much more pressing issues they care about than the age limit. I think they negotiate the most fair deal possible, and that the age limit is something they let the owners keep.

Chilbert arenasParticipantI hope he goes to college this year and is eligible. This college basketball season is already going to be great and add Drummond to a decent team and they become contenders. Also it would make the 2012 draft even better.

Jayhawks2011Participantif he does go to UCONN next year they will be stacked. They could repeat as champions even losing the player of the year.
Napier/Lamb/Deandre Daniels/Oriaki/Drummond
that team would definetely be one of the best in the nation with UNC and Kentucky next year.

cward23ParticipantExactly. I don’t think the age limit is something the players hold as very important. One of those things you throw in and then give up on because it was never that important to begin with (when it comes to business negotiations.
Hopefully he goes to college. Very skilled player but he has the mind set of a Perry Jones. Rarely dominates and most of the time looks just above average

aamir543ParticipantUConn, Georgetown, Kentucky, Lousville, North Carolina, Duke, Pitt, and West Virginia.
These are the schools he is considering. Dang, what if he goes to North Carolina, or Kentucky.
Out of imagination, what if Wall, Cousins, Bledsoe, Knight, Liggins, and Orton all stayed back till this year, and Drummond went to Kentucky. I would take this team over a couple NBA teams.(Charolette, and maybe Cleveland.)

PrecociousNeophyteParticipantI think he already has enough credits to graduate this year. If he does graduate then he will be fine to enter the draft because he is a ’93 and will be 19 the during the 2012 draft.

flybobbyflyParticipantIf Andre and some of the other highschool players enter this draft it will be one of the top 5 most talented drafts ever. It will have most of the best players from 3 years all in one draft.

xavier328Participantcward23 i simi agree with you….i dont believe the hype in Anthony Davis….Drummond problem is consistency and doesnt know how dominate he can and should be thats the only knock on him.
But Anthony Davis agian is very overrated!
It can be alot of bust in this draft.

HitsterParticipantAran did put Andre in a 2012 mock draft last year for a brief while so if there is a chance he could be eligible next year then Aran has to consider him. Andre will not have played at the same level as the returning college guys like Perry Jones. Barnes etc but he’s a huge guy and from what I’ve seen online an athletic freak so teams will certainly be high on him if he lives up to the hype.
If he does project then I’d say he’s a likely top 3 pick whenever he declares.

cward23ParticipantI didn’t believe the Hype on Davis until i watched him play. The kid doesn’t need a lay called for him to put up numbers. He is constantly moving and just out works players. Add to the fact that he is also talented. The reason im not high on Drummond as most is the fact that most players like that never consistantly have that drive. Other players that the same thing was said about was Tim Thomas. A player who was just so talented but didn’t always go hard. Players liek that tend to never seem to find that thing to drive them to play hard all the time.
Davis will go and try to get every rebound and also follow up shots on the offensive glass and try to block everything without picking up cheap fouls. I think alot of that comes from not being a big time prospect in the beginning and always having to work hard just to get a low level college to take notice. Nothing came easy for him which is probably why he works so hard now. Now Davis may never live up to some of the hype but imo his ceiling is higher than Dummonds because of how hard he works. If Drummond had the motor Davis has he would no doubt be a lock in any draft in the past couple of years including the Blake Griffin draft

DunksNJordans23ParticipantI’m not a UK fan but can you imagine how wild that team would be with him coming there this year. Adding Drummond to that roster would be unfair, they would probably be better than the Cavs lol

OhCanada-ParticipantYou guys saying Anthony Davis is overrated…I dont think so. See I used to think so, I used to think he was just Brandon Wright. But he is tenacious, skilled, agile, athletic, and smart. Actaully watch him play, or just watch clips and you will see he is going to be a force to be reckoned with next year. He dominates everywhere he plays.

WizardofOzParticipantI agree with Davis being overrated. I didn’t see any of those guard-like skills druing the All-Star circuit. And I agree with Jorrye when he said Davis has high bust potential. I don’t think he’s agressive or skilled enough to become one.

OhCanada-ParticipantDavis not being skilled is a joke. Seriously how much skill do you want. Obviously he is not a gaurd. He drills mid range jumpers, is coordinated, and has soft touch. Thats skilled! When you acount for his agressive defensive play, and rebounding abillity he is a great package.

HitsterParticipantDavis is a good prospect but before we all decide whether he is the next bust or franchise guy, I think we have to consider that he’ll have a season under Coach Cal to help him develop and then we can see where he is. There are rumours that Coach Cal may play him at 5 some of the time despite his consensus future NBA position possibly being at 4.
If Drummond went to Kentucky then they would be seriously stacked, Coach Cal helped to develop Cousins so Drummond might see that as a good move to make.

Wizofoz how can you say he’s not aggressive? Thats the main part of his game!!
