Richard Jefferson has become the first bigtime amnesty cut. I guess the Spurs felt the same way most did, that the Richard Jefferson expirement has failed. Perhaps he and his boyfriend Luke Walton can now reunite on some other team stealing dollars for nothing.

The Rookie should get some major burn. He plays the way Pop loves to use his SF’s tenacious D

Now you can see why alot of people said Jefferson should’ve gave half of his paycheck to Jason Kidd for making him look good….

LOL…it definitely seems that way. Funny, because I remember way back in the early 2000’s thinking how if you switched he and Devean George, there would be almost NO drop off on NJN.

So now who is going to pick up Jefferson? Under cap teams have first dibs right?

Can lewis be the next in line ?…. now that we know his salary would count towards the salary floor.

A young team could pick him up to be a role player that plays about 20 minutes a night.

Well out of the teams that have cap space, these ones also have holes/need at small forward: Milwaukee, Toronto, Washington, Golden State, Clippers, and Sacramento. This could be a way to get a veteran for cheap.

I pity Richard Jefferson… He was one of those Jason Kidd’s product who fooled a lot of teams that he can score 16-18 ppg for them… Without J-Kidd to facilitate, (I’m not saying Parker doesn’t know how) it’s tough for RJ to play the way he did back in Jersey…

That was a terrible mistake by the spurs, their biggest in years, 40MD over 4 years as a 4th option in a small market team, they’re texans, but they’re not cuban…

Could be a decent 3MD guy in a team with a true playmaker(mavs-nets-wizards).

Should be on the pistons radar too, with prince out, maybe cavs.

Wasn’t he pretty damn good with the bucks though…which got him that ridiclous contract in the first place…

I could see GSW, LAC, Brooklyn, NYK, or even LAC if they got rid of Artest in a deal. Come to think of it, Orlando and NOK could be possibilities as well.

^First of all I think you mean "LAL" not "LAC". Second, even if they get rid of Artest in a deal, I garuntee you that they will still be over the cap, so they won’t be able to bid on him. If he gets no bids (which I doubt) then that gives LAL the chance to possibly give him their dumbed down MLE, which I doubt he’ll take.

I think some of you are being a bit too dismissive of Jefferson. Sure Kidd helped him out but he was always a talented scorer. Even after Kidd was traded from NJ, he played very well at the end of that year. And it was only a few years ago that he averaged 19.6 PPG for a Milwaukee team that had Ramon Sessions as their starting PG. No he isn’t a gamechanger and he certainly wasn’t worth his price tag in San Antonio but he is still young enough and talented enough to contribute as a starter for the right team.

I think his career will now go downhill – he is a borderline starter in this league…

YurpleHaze, he was traded to the Spurs when he was still on the contract he signed in Jersey. He was terrible in his first year in SA, opted out of his contract then they re-signed him for stupid amounts of money. I’ll never understand that contract, the Spurs front office is probably the best in the league, no idea how they let that happen. I hope Leonard gets some playtime this year. Pop doesn’t like playing rookies, but he may not have a choice here.

OKC should offer to pay about 2mil. KD is their only SF and Jefferson stepped up his shooting and defense last year, so he could be good for 15minutes or so.

Obviously I meant LAL aamir, but I had a life to get to and had a typo, my bad bro lmao. Second, I think you are SEVERELY, overrating Jefferson. Yes he will probably get looks from teams under the cap primarily LAC, but I wouldn’t guarantee it and moreso, I think if those teams did in fact pass on him, LAL would more than likely jump at the opportunity given his outside shooting and ability to still finish on the break.

But let’s not act as if he’s some kind of player that is going to command top dollar anymore. He’s a below average rebounder for his athleticism, size and position. Limited guard play, and his defense has become rather overrated with his age and injuries catching up to him. He’s a good player to have on your team and a complimentary 4th or 5th option who can knock down a 3 ball and provide a little transition points. Mini MLE money is exactly what I would expect. Honestly, at this point in his career, aside from a good(but inconsistent) 3 ball, how much different a player is he than Dahntay Jones who also makes around 3 a year if I’m not mistaken?

@Dwight, he did average just under 20 a game in Milwaukee, but It’s not like there was anyone else who was going to put the ball in the rim. And Ramon Sessions is actually a pretty good playmaking PG who at the time seemed like he was going to be the Andre Miller. Not to mention that was 3 years ago. I sincerely doubt he’s going to suddenly get it back together, after all, the Spurs even changed their offense this year to a faster pace and his numbers still dove. 11pts,under 4 rbs, and just over an assist per game just aint gonna cut it. The guy can’t even force turnovers anymore. This is the same RJ who was once a 7rbs,4ast guy. No longer is he that. Athletes who get by on athleticism and a little skill don’t usually fair too well for themselves after 30 or so.

I’d like to see him on the Thunder personally. If it’s true that James Harden is going to make the leap to starter this year sooner than later, then the bench depth as far as scoring goes just completely evaporates. Could use a sparkplug like Jefferson off the bench to hit a couple 3’s here & there, and of course the occasional jam never hurts.

I doubt Harden will start, but will probably see starter’s minutes as he played 31min/g in the playoffs last year. Playing with the 2nd team will allow him to dominate the ball and do what he does best: score. If he starts he’s a 3rd option almost all the time. If he comes off the bench then there’s about 15 minutes where he can be the man.

Jefferson averaged 20pts/g with his last year in Milwalkee becuase Redd and Bogut both went down with season enders and Jefferson became their #1 option, which may have given him nice stats, but the team lost a lot more games. Same reason why CV put up good numbers that year and was able to sign that awful contract with Detroit.

    @junkyarddog…

they could amnesty Lewis but when you amnesty a player, you still have to pay them their money, plus i think he only has one more year on his contract and a buyout for 10 million dollars…

id rather see the Wiz buy him out or just let him play out the season, rather than lose him for nothing and still pay him 20 mill…u know?
