Michael.S.ParticipantI honestly believe this guy said that he don’t want Anthony, because he wants to be "the guy"…I think thats the main reason why he chose the Knicks in the first place, to use NY to get more fame/recognition and now that he is getting it with the MVP talk, endorsments, tv appearances…he wants to stay the man even if it means keeping just an ok team…They have a chance to upgrade big time and he would pass up wins for his ginormous ego. Thats just how he is.

BKKnicksfanParticipantIncorrect.
Your not gonna want anyone to come onto your current team and be the guy. Noone is ever gonna say " Well yeah, were a average team…bring in that superstar player…maybe he could make us better." Stats is alright and he’s speaking the truth, the Knicks are winning and the players on the team there gelling. He’s not gonna BEG for Carmelo.

ilike.panochasParticipantWhen did he say he doesn’t want Carmelo in NY? I highly doubt he feels that way, he shared the spotlight with Nash just fine.

the lake showI read it a different way. I think what Amare is tryna say is that the Knicks don’t NEED Melo. Basically saying he has faith in his abilities as well as his teammates. I’m willing to bet a reporter asked him directly or indirectly if they NEED Melo

Ghost01Participantholy lake show….i agree ^^^^^^
Maybe Amare thought completely gutting the roster to bring in a selfish scorer who doesnt defend isnt a good idea?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 01/10/2011 - 11:15am #473587
Jlv2010having Amare as their star player sounds like a recipe for disappointment in the upcoming years.

Michael.S.Participant"Well yeah, were a average team…bring in that superstar player…maybe he could make us better." Stats is alright and he’s speaking the truth, the Knicks are winning and the players on the team there gelling
No, you are incorrect. Players that actually WANT TO WIN do want other star players to join them; like Wade, LeBron, Paul, Melo, Rose, Westbrook, Love…hell, Kobe asked for Kidd. He is satisied getting the spotlight and being a boarderline team. Thats what they are.

Michael.S.Participant"Maybe Amare thought completely gutting the roster to bring in a selfish scorer who doesnt defend isnt a good idea?"
Noooo, he just wants to be the only one thats like that. He is the selfish scorer that doesn’t play D.

the lake showWhats the link to him saying this by the way.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 01/10/2011 - 11:25am #473593
the lake showAnd before the season started this is what Amare said
I’ve talked to Carmelo Anthony that he needs to come out here," Stoudemire said. "I’ve talked to Tony Parker. Both guys are ready to join me if I decide to come here. So we will see if we can work it out.
Sounds to me like He thinks the Knicks are better then he hoped and can win without adding Melo.

Lotto StudParticipantHow is this statement true……He is the true definition of a leader on a bad team prior to him coming.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 01/10/2011 - 11:30am #473596
Michael.S.Participantyea, lakeshow by the way he is talking it is obvious that he is indicating that he dn’t want Melo.. "we don’t need much" he says and this isn’t the first time he said they don’t need Melo. But they DO need much, much more…They are a playoff team thats first and out now…You need much more, Amare. That quote you shared was pre-season, he didn’t experience the MVP talk and spotlight yet, and now that he has, he dont wanna share it.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 01/10/2011 - 11:34am #473598
the lake showBut they don’t need more scoring., thats not a issue with this team. They need a big man and to play better defense.

mgreener_34ParticipantComing from a guy with LeBron James as their avatar? Amare is giving it his all every time he steps out on the court, and is showing that he is a vocal leader. Maybe he’s smart with his way of thinking instead of being selfish. He likes this team, so why would he endorse sending half of it away when he could just be the man for one year, and probably get another star in the next two years, and keep the same team. Thats smart not selfish.

BKKnicksfanParticipantComing from a guy with LeBron James as their avatar?
Owned.

bdoody42ParticipantTo me Amare is being a good teammater and showing his current wing players that he is happy to be playing with them and think there good players.
To me this a compliment to Fields, Chander, and Gallo.

HaleParticipantAmare don’t take the easy way out like the Heat!
0 - Posted on: Mon, 01/10/2011 - 11:40am #473606
Michael.S.ParticipantYea, LeBron is provably the most unsefish star the NBA has seen. As he has displayed time after time.
W. E.
I know there are 2 million Knicks fans here, and its obvious they are happy with their average team…enjoy!

Michael.S.Participantyes yupyup….He isn’t a bit unselfish; he has an ego but he isn’t selfish…don’t get them confused.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 01/10/2011 - 11:47am #473615
HaleParticipantI didn’t call him selfish. But no way is he the most unselfish star the NBA has ever seen.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 01/10/2011 - 11:49am #473617
bdoody42ParticipantSteve Nash right now is the must unselfish star in the NBA. He could make any 4 of us look good on the court with him.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 01/10/2011 - 11:55am #473622
the lake showSo he’s selfish because he thinks the team as constructed is a team that can grow together without adding Melo??
0 - Posted on: Mon, 01/10/2011 - 11:55am #473623
HaleParticipantHe was going to be my first example.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 01/10/2011 - 11:56am #473624
the lake showSo is Michel Jordan considered selfish when he said he would never wanna play with Bird and Magic on his team he rather beat them?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 01/10/2011 - 11:57am #473625
HaleParticipantNot in my book. That is how it should be.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 01/10/2011 - 12:02pm #473630
sacphil_08Participantto lake show, that was the most asinine comparison ive ever seen anyone make, you have solidified yourself as an idiotic poster
0 - Posted on: Mon, 01/10/2011 - 12:03pm #473632
the lake showI agree thats how it should be. I do think they would be better with melo but i don’t thibnk he is selfish because of what he said i just think he believes that this team can be a very good team, not sure i agree but He has more faith in them then i do
0 - Posted on: Mon, 01/10/2011 - 12:11pm #473635
BKKnicksfanParticipantAnd you suck lebron off more than anyone here, so you should stay quiet.

NYCrealdealParticipantoff wasnt lebron getting bashed because he left his team and thougth they wernt good enough now amare is saying he like his team and think they are good and hes getting bashed for it he WANTS to be the leader of this team not a sidekick like lebron is now
and why would he say that he wants melo to the media that wud be a noob move encourage your teammates and give them support because wat if melo doesnt come. gallo chandler and fields would be thinkin amare doesnt like to play with them and what not gallo is alrady so sensative u might start crying if amare said he want malo and that he needs melo to win
but i think amare lied to the media here just to boost team morale i think he still wants cp3 and melo i think he is serious about winning
0 - Posted on: Mon, 01/10/2011 - 1:00pm #473653
the lake show^^agreed
0 - Posted on: Mon, 01/10/2011 - 1:33pm #473672
Malik-UniversalParticipantsomeone said that amare was okay being next to another superstar in phx with nash
to me this isnt always true
amare left PHX to be the man in New York, im not saying he only left becuz he wanted to be the man.
but personally, i dont think S.T.AT. is selfish
0 - Posted on: Mon, 01/10/2011 - 1:55pm #473674
the lake showAmare was actually willing to stay in PHX but they didnt wanna pony up the dough. He was ready to sign that contract and said as much plenty of times
0 - Posted on: Mon, 01/10/2011 - 2:05pm #473679
BKKnicksfanParticipantI heard they offered like 40 mil though because the knees.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/12/2011 - 7:04am #474318
LAKE SHOWJust read on Hoops world that Amare reached out to Melo and told him to come join the Knicks. Guess he’s not so selfish now huh
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/12/2011 - 7:18am #474327
Michael.S.ParticipantAfter 2 quotes that said he didn’t want him/need him in NY? Somethings being miscommunicated.
