Toronto16Participant6 straight games scoring 30 or more, Knicks are on a winning streak, their games are watchable, no way the Knicks would have beaten the Raptors last night had Ama’re not taken over the game down the stretch.
I’m not down with the mindset that you have to be the best player on a 60 win team to win MVP. I feel it should go to the guy whose team would be the most trash without him, but are competing for home court advantage with him.

delfamParticipanthe might be in contention but he’ll never win it over Howard, especially with the conception of being in D’Antoni’s offense.

Toronto16ParticipantYes, your stats are boosted in Mike D’Antoni’s offense. But wins don’t lie.

delfamParticipantI’m just saying voters might take that into contention, and since I doubt the Knicks will have a better record than the Magic, I doubt Amare would ever win it over Howard.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantRight now, there is no Clear cut Front Runner for MVP..
If things continue like this, dont be surprised if the Voters give Kobe his 2nd MVP Award ..
So many of them are itching to find a way to give Kobe another MVP Award..

joecheck88Participantif he can grab 14 rebounds more often, then yes he could definately win it. i just wish i would see less 30pt 5reb games from him. if he could pull down 11boards a game and the knicks win 50 games and grab a 4 seed, he would be atleast top 3 imo.
ex. knicks win 51 games and get 4 seed. amare’ gets 26ppg and 11rpg.
the only problem is guys like rose, howard, deron williams, and russell westbrook are all playing almost as well as amare'(or better) and guys like kobe, lebron, wade, and durant still playing at mvp like levels. at this point in the season there are atleast 10 legit mvp candidates. thats why we play a full season. lets see if amare can keep scoring this way and rebound a little better.

delfamParticipantthere in so clear-cut favorite right now, I’d almost have to give it to Ginobli just cause it’s so wide open right now and how good the Spurs are playing.

Meditated StatesParticipantGuys are having career games against him. K Love twice,Bargnani,Blake. He does not defend. I like him on offense, but everynight I see what his man is doing to him and they are scoring 30 plus often and grabbing a lot too. No way MVP

Toronto16Participant^ Very true. I never thought about that.

mikeyvthedonParticipantI had a feeling Amare would be putting up huge numbers on the Knicks, and I saw them as being a play-off team, but the guy still plays so little defense it is almost funny. You are right, wins don’t lie, but Blake Griffin, Kevin Love and Andrea Bargnani scoring and boarding you hardcore certainly does not show you being a dominant player. Plus, while Amare smashed on the Raptors in the stretch, Raymond Felton’s trey was what made the difference, and Amare was giving up a ton of points on the other end as people were either driving past him as he was afraid to pick up a foul or he was totally out of position. Do not even get me started on how the Raptors played defense against him, which was completely pathetic. Amare is having a big year, and should be in the running for an All-NBA first or second team, but I do not think he will be a viable MVP candidate when it is all said and done. Andrea Bargnani should not score 41 points on you, I do not care who was guarding him, it should have been Amare trying to stop him from torching the Knicks and giving the Raps a chance to take that game. Man, if only Bargnani and Calderon weren’t such incredibly awful defenders/rebounders (for their positions, and just in general, wow, they were bad).

joecheck88Participantdoes anyone think its possible that dantoni tells amare not to pick up fouls making him less agressive? i certainly do. amare offensively is a weapon. him on offense allows evryone else and extra half step when they get the ball.
is amare too important on offense to try and be a defensive stopper and possibly be in foul trouble?
just a thought.

delfamParticipant@trinajoe, I think that’s a good point, I’ve seen the same thing from Blake Griffin, he doesn’t go for block shots cause he’s to important on offense.

bkballerParticipantYes if Amare picks up a few early fouls, he backs off a lot during the game. This is probably agreed upon by the staff to keep the guy on the floor. Rather give up a few lay ups and keep Amare out there.

Meditated StatesParticipantSome of these games would not be close. There are other powerforwards in the league that can play D well without fouling. I like Amare always did even when he came out of highschool, but no he is getting beaten I watch the plays. His D is bad and if Barngani does not go for 41 is that game close?
0 - Posted on: Thu, 12/09/2010 - 9:14am #454951
joecheck88Participanti mean i feel ya, his defense should be way better. im just saying i think its possible that the coaches tell him he is too important on offense to pick up fouls on defense.
and another case for amare and mvp is dirk winning the mvp a few years ago. he isnt a strong rebounder or defender either. his team won about 67 games tho. its only because amare is so athletic that he gets bashed for his defense. his rebounds should be way better tho.

NYK2010ParticipantHe won’t win MVP unless the Knicks are a top team.
Right now he’s in the conversation for MVP, top 10 in blocks, and 3rd in scoring.
Anyway would have to see how they do against the elite teams in the league first.
I think Dirk is MVP right now anyway, Howard 2nd.
Most other guys numbers are down from last year but its early probly by the end of the month should know more around 35 games into the season.
Westbrook definately taking votes away from Durant this year with his improved play.

GrandmamaParticipantlmao b/c he’s had six straight good games….hasn’t Kyle Lowry had six straight good games? Sh*t, Dorrell Wright’s had six straight good games, give him MVP…pfff
0 - Posted on: Thu, 12/09/2010 - 12:14pm #454999
bkballerParticipanthe wasn’t guarding Bargniani, Chandler was for most of the game. Plus the guy wasn’t missing, it wasn’t like he had a crazy amount of easy shots. Stoudamire isn’t a good defender, but he isn’t ass horrendous as Lee either. He gets stops when it matters.

QUINCEY HODGES1Amare has never been a good one on one defender and just because he’s a Knick doesn’t mean it has changed. Some Knicks fans swear he’s a better defender now but that’s only because he is now a Knick but anyone who has watched can see he is still a bad defender. either he cant defend or he just doesn’t care. All players get stops every once in awhile but overall he is still a bad defender. There’s more to defense then just blocking shots just like there’s more to defense as a guard then just getting steals
With that said if he continues to play well on offense and the Knicks beat a couple of the good teams coming up( no more cupcakes for awhile instead of a team or two sprinkled in for the next month) then it is possible although i doubt he will ever win it. Steve Nash was a bad defender but he did win 2 MVPs. The Knicks would also have to be one of the top teams in the NBA

joecheck88Participantthats what im trying to say quincey. dirk won a mvp and isnt a good defender, nash won 2. the only difference is nash and dirks teams won over 60 games, a feat that will not be duplicated by the knicks. but i can see amare in the top 5 this year.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 12/09/2010 - 12:42pm #455009
QUINCEY HODGES1Yea you have to win alot of games and be in the title Discussion to be considered. Defense doesn’t matter if you’re offense is very very good
0 - Posted on: Thu, 12/09/2010 - 1:07pm #455016
sheltwon3ParticipantIf Amare can keep this up next year with added help, They Knicks could have a chance at 55 if Melo or some defensive big like Tyson Chandler get picked up.

andxxxParticipantMost guys that win MVP are on a top 4 team in the league, he may be the mvp of his team, but u got to be one of the best players on one of the best teams unfortunately
0 - Posted on: Thu, 12/09/2010 - 4:30pm #455083
ChrischiParticipantof course he is in the discussion but your team has to be a top4 team with like 55+ wins
0 - Posted on: Thu, 12/09/2010 - 9:07pm #455143
dmo21ParticipantThe NBA almost needs an Offensive Player of the Year to go along with the DPOY and MVP. This will award guys who have a special niche for offense or defense, and the mvp goes to someone who does both on one of the best teams.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 12/09/2010 - 9:24pm #455151
sheltwon3ParticipantI think if Amare does not win MVP he will be first team All NBA so that should give him some props
