SiggyParticipantThis is surprising. MIN isn’t a contender and this will likely be his last shot at a multi-yr contract, but outside of that I thought MIN was a good situation for him.
Your guess is as good as mine. I’d like to see him stay in MIN.
If the Rockets can’t land a big name, I think AK would be a nice option over there.0 - Posted on: Sat, 06/29/2013 - 7:14am #809372

rickyD510ParticipantHe nearly went to sacramento last time around, and they still haven’t filled the hole at sf. Also the new regime actually cares about winning, so Sac is an option.

Forte IVParticipantI never get why some guys opt out of their deals. He was slates to make around 10 million next year. Now I see the most being 6 because of his age. This happened to Richard Jefferson a couple of years ago when he opted out of 15 mil, but heck he still ended up getting 10 mil a year so who knows.

aztwulfParticipantI was posting mine while you were posting yours, and didn’t see yours until after. I think we agree on his situation and we have about the same idea of his worth.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantIt’s about locking up a long term contract.
If he makes 10mil next year and reinjures himself, nobody is gonna want to touch him for anything more than 3yr/9mil with a team option but at the age of 31, there is going to be a team that will give him 3yr/25mil. It’s not about guaranteed money next season, but guaranteed money throughout 3-4 years.
A bird in the hands is worth two in the bush. Get paid for today’s talent for the next week or get paid day-by-day?

aztwulfParticipantI was glad to see him opt out. At the scheduled 10.4 Million he would have been vastly overpaid. Minny will have better uses for that money.
If he wants a longer deal I bet he is going to have a hard time finding something better than about 6M per on a three year deal. Good defender, good teammate, average rebounder, pretty good shotblocker, gets his hands on lots of balls, can’t really shoot very well, hurt a lot.
Who has money to spend and wants a defensive specialist? That is his niche at this point in time.

LipstickParticipantNot a surprising move for AK to go after more guaranteed money, but signing him to a multi-year contract of similar value (like $8-10 million) looks risky given his durability and age (31).
But it also means room to re-sign Pek and have plenty of cash to go after O.J. Mayo or J.J Redick now. Derrick Williams also now has more playing time at the 3. Same with Shabazz.

BajeebzParticipantThe Wolves didn’t address their need to get shooting in the draft, but now that AK has opted out hopefully they can use that money to go after some shot makers. I’d be happy to bring AK back at $15 mil over 3 years, but I doubt he’d agree to that. I believe we need shooting more than we need his defense (although, AK is a very valuable player, no doubt).

SiggyParticipantMore Derrick Williams at the 3 sounds awful. If they don’t re-sign AK, hopefully they re-sign Budinger.
I understand that Pek is a priority, I just don’t think a front court of Love/Pek can exist without a SF like AK to make up for their defensive shortcomings. Replace AK with Derrick Williams and that could possibly be the worst defensive frontcourt of all time.

Memphis MadnessParticipantIf he goes to Miami it’s over. OKC needs to talk to him an offer a 4 year deal. Same with Memphis who has some needs at the 3 spot.
The Pacers could use him too at both forward spots especially if they move Danny Granger zAK47 is an important free agent this offseason.

Memphis MadnessParticipant^^^
A front line of LeBron, AK47, and Birdman??? That HAS to be ILLEGAL!

he_gets_bucketsParticipantPerhaps he isnt even looking to play in the NBA anymore? Maybe he is looking to finish off his last 3 or 4 years of high level play in Russia

j1232eParticipantI hope he signs a 2-3 yr. deal, 7 Mill. a season. Bring him Back to Utah! He would be the old AK 47 back with the Jazz system. A great fit.
