The 76ers drafted the 7’0 C, Joel Embiid out of Kansas last year. He was pretty much a lock for the #1 pick before he got injured, and the 76ers were in a great position to grab him. They now have a front court for the future with Embiid, Noel, and Saric coming over in two more years. They also have the reigning rookie of the year Michael Carter Williams. Here is the problem: The 76ers are bad, so bad that I could get a 10day contract.
The best prospects are either bigs, or PG (Mudiay).
If you get the #1 pick do you take Okafor and trade him? Do you trade Noel and hope Okafor and Embiid can co-exist? Do you trade Noel’s good friend MCW and draft Mudiay? Do you keep both and hope Mudiay’s shooting isn’t a fluke and pair them together in the backcourt? What about Wroten? Do you reach for Stanley Johnson, who isn’t a sexy pick and doesn’t have the star potential as the others? Is he too similar to KJ McDaniels? So many questions! What would you do? Put your GM cap on.

Edit: Didn’t know a post was already made about this. Aghhhhh

The 76ers are so early in the rebuild operation that I think they almost take BPA, Utah had Jefferson, Millsap and Favours but still took Kanter so no way would I rule out Towns, Okafor etc as Noel and Embiid are in situ.

The problem could be that Embiid might not be on court until next season so Coach Brett Brown and Sam Hinkie will have no real idea where he is potential wise.

I assume they will pick very high next summer so Hinkie will likely work out all the top prospects and draft from there based on all the data he has.

We have the same issue with Mudiay and MCW of course so logic may push us to think that Hinkie might favour someone like Stanley Johnson or Kelly Oubre. But there is still 7 months plus until the draft and the mock board will change a lot in that time.

Hinkie if he does get a very high pick and the player he likes is available a bit lower will be able to field bids to trade down so a lot will depend on what offers he could get.

Personally I still prefer BPA route at this moment unless there is going to be a huge position logjam created.

Here’s a projected Top 10 based on the Sixers getting the top pick this year as well as a mid 1st rounder this year(the Miami pick. Miami 5-4 so far this year and likely won’t get 82 games out of Wade).

    PG-MCW

    SG-Mudiay

    SF-KJ McDaniels

    PF-Noel

    C-Embiid

    Bench(1-5 order)

Wroten, Caris LeVert, Hollis Thompson, Saric, Henry Sims.

Before anyone says anything about the backcourt, a pair of bigger combo guards has worked well for Phoenix. If Mudiay’s shooting is really improved, him and MCW can play together

I am legitimatly interested to see who you think would be the leading point scorer on this proposed roster of yours. I have some delusional fantasy that it will be Embiid, but who knows how his offensive game will translate over to the NBA in his first year.

They need scoring and 3-point shooting on the wing. Nerlens is likely about all the non-shooters you can really afford in your starting lineup. I don’t think having McDaniels in there at the same time is a great idea. It’d be hard to spread the floor, they couldn’t keep the defense honest and it’d be really easy to collapse on Embiid that way.

Trading down for Oubre might make some sense. I generally like Stanley Johnson better, but his lack of jumper is not what they need.

If they can get outside shooting, I think Embiid leads the team in scoring… perhaps in a few years.

The 76ers should take a long look at Karl Anthony Towns…He has the length and athleticism to run with the MCW and Wroten, he also seems to have a nice mid range jump shot and would fit in nicely with Noel and Embiid, Saric could be a very good 6th man whenever he comes over but I wouldn’t pass on a player like KAT because we have his draft rights…

I think we can get Wings in Free Agency…Gerald Green, Harrison Barnes and a slew of other young wing Players will want to get paid very soon, and their current teams may not be in position to pay them as much as Philadelphia (not that I wish to overpay for anyone!!!)

I’d rather wait on some big guys to develop than to reach on wing players that could be drafted in the 5-10 range…Lets say we get the 1st Pick and a team like Denver has the 5th, I’d trade them Okefor for Stanley Johnson and Gary Harris, maybe even twist their arm for a 2nd round pick…
