was a consensus top 3 recruit coming into the college season, rated as high as number 1 on some recruiting sites. NBA scouts are extremely intrigued with his upside and the fact that he improved and got stronger as the season went on. He’s considered a likely top 5 pick or this year’s NBA draft.

NBADraft.net: What’s your most memorable moment growing up playing basketball?

Derrick Favors: The most memorable moment I had playing basketball was winning the state championship my senior year of high school. I had 38 points. We played a team called Westover from Georgia. Winning the state championship game was special to me because I won it with a lot of guys who I grew up with and all we talked about was winning a state championship and being considered one of the top high school teams in the country.

NBADraft.net: At what point did you realize you were pretty good and a career in basketball could be in your future?

Derrick Favors: I realized I was pretty good my freshman year in high school and if I kept working hard, it could be my future.

NBADraft.net: If not for basketball, what career would you go into?

Derrick Favors: A business owner. I will open a shoe business. I’ll open up a couple shoe stores around Atlanta.

NBADraft.net: Which NBA players do you look up to or try to pattern your game after?

Derrick Favors: I look up to Kevin Garnett because he has been one of my favorite players to watch when I was growing up and one of the players who I pattern my game after.

NBADraft.net: Who is your biggest role model?

Derrick Favors: I have plenty of positive examples in my life, but I really want to be the best Derrick Favors so I can be a role model to kids.

NBADraft.net: What interests do you have off the court?

Derrick Favors: Right now I spend a lot of time studying so I can finish my 2nd semester strong and not lose focus on education.

NBADraft.net: What type of music/musicians do you enjoy?

Derrick Favors: Hip-Hop and RnB. I listen to T.I., Young Jeezy, Gucci Mane, and Lauryn Hill.

NBADraft.net: Is there a certain aspect of your game you feel is most NBA ready?

Derrick Favors: My defense is the most NBA ready. I feel I can guard any post player.

NBADraft.net: What area of your game can use the most work?

Derrick Favors: My overall game.

NBADraft.net: What can you bring to an NBA team next year?

Derrick Favors: Hard work.

NBADraft.net: Is winning the ROY a goal of yours?

Derrick Favors: Winning ROY is a goal of mine but also being the best player I can be and the team I go to to win games.

NBADraft.net: What are you hearing from teams about where you could expect to go in the draft this year?

Derrick Favors: Top 5.

NBADraft.net: Do you feel as though you can turn a lottery team into a playoff team next year?

Derrick Favors: With a lot of hard work and grind, yes I can!

NBADraft.net: What was your reaction to Duke winning the National Championship? Were you surprised?

Derrick Favors: No, I wasn’t surprised they were a good team and they deserved it.

NBADraft.net: Who’s your pick to win the NBA title this year?

Derrick Favors: The Lakers. They are the best team with the best player in the NBA. How can they lose?

NBADraft.net: What should teams know about your teammate Gani Lawal?

Derrick Favors: He’s a hard worker who is going to play hard every minute when he is out there on the court.

Derrick Favors: I can write with both hands!
