International Flavor: Analyzing the 2008 Class

Tue, 06/24/2008 - 3:30pm

With the NBA's ever-increasing influx of international players (25 percent of the league), the importance of scouting globally continues to rise.

Every year, a handful of international prospects dot the draft landscape, and while this draft is no different, it has no clear-cut superstar talents. No one that is likely to turn into a franchise-level player, a la Dirk Nowitzki or Yao Ming.

2008 NBA Draft: Playing Devil's Advocate

Tue, 06/24/2008 - 2:31pm

I'm sick of it.

I'm tired of hearing about how great this draft is. I'm done with hearing about a skin-and-bones swingman being compared to Chris Bosh. I'm through listening to people tell me that an out-of-shape, under-sized power forward should be a top-5 pick. I'm overwhelmed by the thought of a selfish combo guard with a bad track record and a history of being shut down by college defenders being the clear-cut No. 3.

2008 NBA Draft: Overrated/Underrated

Mon, 06/23/2008 - 2:31pm

Overrated:

Kevin Love (UCLA)

[img_assist|nid=1222|title=Kevin Love|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=300|height=378] Love is a classic example of a great college player who is unlikely to be a great NBA player.

Without question Love has his strengths. He is an extremely intelligent player who possesses a high basketball IQ. He has great hands, range out to the three point line, and boasts an array of fundamentally sound post moves.

Risk and Reward

Mon, 06/23/2008 - 5:11am

As the draft approaches, many fans (and presumably general managers) may be asking themselves a basic question: What’s better, a safe and solid pick or a high risk but high reward pick?[img_assist|nid=1143|title=Andrew Bynum|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=300|height=428]
