NBA Comparison: Matt Barnes

Matthew Maurer – 3/3/2007

Strengths: Possesses big time physical tools to develop into a elite defender due to his lateral quickness, long arms, anticipation skills and mental toughness Hosley is an impressive athlete capable of some impressive plays Has three point range shooting capability His huge wingspan allows him to play much bigger than his 6-6 height … Shows a great first step, able to get past most defenders when on the perimeter Excellent rebounder for his size due to his long arms and athleticism Does an admirable job playing the passing lanes for easy steals Good upper body strength enables him to finish after contact occurs Makes a living drawing fouls from opposing defenders getting to the free throw line with ease Has improved greatly shooting from mid-range when his feet are set Creates mismatches with his ability to overpower smaller defenders Excellent finisher in transition or on the break where he shows impressive flair Team player who has adjusted his game this year in order for the team to be more successful Plays the game with a good intensity level and a will to win Coachable player who has the work ethic to improve Potential is considerable despite being a senior

Weaknesses: His perimeter defense will need to be improved upon Not the best shooter off the dribble as Hosley is more comfortable when his feet are set. Creating offense off the dribble has shown some improvement this past season but remains inconsistent Tries too often to go for the spectacular play whether its a put-back or a basic dunk Needs to improve going to the left side of the basket as he heavily favors going right during games Doesnt have the best court vision, while improved Hosley struggles to identify open shooter when in the post Perimeter shooting such as mid-range and three point range have improved but remain very inconsistent Free throw shooting doesnt allow him to fully capitalize after drawing fouls Plays the game a little over-aggressive as he tends to pick-up unnecessary fouls Basketball IQ remains a work in progress as he is prone to making mental mistakes in games
