NBA Comparison: Marcus Banks

Matthew Maurer – 1/6/2007

Strengths: His determination to improve speaks volumes about his work ethic and improved mental toughness Has played the point guard position this year with maturity and poise Uses his quick first step well to get to the basket, and is able to finish with his great size and terrific athleticism Does a good job of driving and dishing to the open man Constantly looks to push the ball up court Has a number of qualities you look for in a point guard Understands how to control the tempo of a game and set-up the offense Has developed a consistent pull-up jumper from mid-range Possesses a good change of speed dribble and hesitation moves to get past most defenders A great rebounder for his position who uses his quickness to make an impact Court vision is above average and possess the creativity to create opportunities for teammates

Weaknesses: Shakurs shot selection can be questionable at times. His jump shot can go through periods of inconsistency but to his credit has improved greatly Has a terrible release on his shot which he has worked hard to correct, but appears to have resigned to shooting with an unorthodox release. His struggles shooting the ball seemed to set his performance back considerably during his college career Mental toughness has been a real area of concern for him, but appears improved Doesnt always work well in a half court set, clearly excels in an up tempo offense Still can get carried away with trying to go for the spectacular play When he does turn the ball over it has more to do with him being out of control than poor court decisions Defensively he could stand to put more pressure on opposing guards

Notes: Came into Arizona as one of the premiere recruits in the entire nation. He has struggled to live up to those lofty expectations … Despite all the negative criticism Shakur has received criticism throughout his collegiate career he has responded with a strong senior season thus far
