valentineAlexander Declined: It’s rare a first round picks third-year team option is not picked up, but apparently that’s just what the Milwaukee Bucks have decided to do for swingman Joe Alexander according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.
Teams have until Monday, November 2nd, to pick up third- and fourth-year team options, or to sign 2006 first round picks to early extensions.
The Bucks have a team option on Alexander for 2010-11 worth $2,763,600, but apparently the team doesn’t think he’s worth that much. Truth be told Alexander hasn’t shown much in his short time in the league, but they apparently think he’s not going to improve enough to justify the rookie scale deal either. Alexander is currently out with a hamstring injury and isn’t expected to be back until December.
Alexander will become the highest-drafted player ever to not have this third-year option picked up. The eighth pick overall in the 2008 NBA Draft, Alexander “breaks” the previous “record” of Patrick O’Bryant, drafted ninth overall in the 2006 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors.
What makes this possibly worse is that many feel the 2008 NBA Draft was one of the deepest drafts ever – and the Bucks apparently blew their pick so badly they can’t stand having him more than two years.

JNixonParticipantYea, he’s going to have to show something when he gets back. It’s not looking good for Joe Alexander.

The Big Omaybe a run and gun team will want him as a mismatch 4 😉

IndianaBasketballParticipantThis is unfortunate for Alexander, but I’m not surprised here… He really hasn’t shown any promise since he was drafted. He was one of those players who shined so bright in workouts, that teams fell in love with him. Alexander is a great athlete, but he doesn’t know how to play basketball.

rtbtParticipantI think you made some keen observations on Alexander. But lets keep in mind that everyone going into the draft knew he was a project, so Milwaukee, nor anyone else, should be surprised by the short term results. He’s a guy who’s only been playing basketball for a few years and still has a lot to learn.
I personally thought he would have a much better year in 2009-10, but that serious hamstring injury has apparently put an end to that possibility. I watched him one year at WV and thought he was horrendous. Then I saw him the next year against teams like Georgetown and couldn’t believe how much he improved. So I for one haven’t given up on him, but time will tell.

whiteflashParticipantRtbt hit it on the head. I He’s a guy with a ton of natural ability who needs good coaching and practice reps. Everything about him reminds me of Tom Gugliotta, except he’s a MUCH better athlete. If the Bucks give up on him they’ll regret it in a few years, guaranteed.

quincey hodgesyeah he doesnt know how to play basketball ..yet..he is still young and a project…the bucks do want him still they are just saying that hes not worth that 2plus million and i dont blame them for that, if they can keep him for cheaper. the problem from what i hear is that he hasnt gotten much if any better which, even if a player is a project, they show some slight improvement

marcusfizer21ParticipantI thought that the 8th pick was too high for Joe… To see him get drafted ahead of Brook Lopez still brings chills in my spine because I knew that Brook is a way better prospect than Joe… To be impressive in workouts is fine but sometimes people might miss out on some better players in the end…

PureshooterParticipantIt seems like his attitude may not be quite where it needs to be. If he’d stayed positive and kept his mouth shut to the media they might have kept him around.

SlimParticipantyeah right, you make him sound like he his attitude is whats keeping him off the floor lol
0- Posted on: Mon, 11/23/2009 - 7:12am #232513

PureshooterParticipantNot off the floor, but off the team. The guy obviously has potential, but if a team isn’t sold on a player’s attitude then they aren’t going to waste their time trying to develop him.

RUDEBOYAlexander is a great athlete.. But his basketball IQ isn’t so great..Shannon Brown was a player that blew teams away in workouts with his athleticism.Never was able to put it all together while he was with Cleveland…Then bounce around a few times until he became a solid player with the Lakers after learning how to really play the game of basketball……Maybe Joe needs to find a team that will bring out the best in him…Like Shannon did with the Lakers

The8thDeadlySinParticipantHe doesnt have a bad attitude. He is one of the hardest workers in the game and he, like anyone else, thinks he should be getting rewarded for his work. Guys, honestly, if you dont know what you are talking about, why comment on it??
0- Posted on: Tue, 11/24/2009 - 4:35am #232754

PureshooterParticipantI know that he stated publicly that he wanted a trade and that he felt the team didn’t want him around. True or not, there’s no need to go to the press about it. That’s the attitude I was referring to, not necessarily work ethic.

SlimParticipantPotential = u cant play baskeetball= insult
I used to have POTENTIAL but i developed myself
Y cannot Joe Alexander do the same, he is more of a fullcourt player and not a halfcourt player
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Joe-Alexander-1185/he has all the resources in the world esp when it comes to competition level,
he should develop his all around passing skills,“This wasn’t a glamorous game for Alexander, as it took him quite a while to get going.
he’s shown some nice tools.
1) Alexander showed great court vision today once again,
On one memorable occasion he caught a full court outlet pass only to tip it behind him to a cutting teammate.
While his passing has been great, his shooting has been another story.
2) He’s had no problem getting his shot off, but just hasn’t hit anything from the field.namely the ability to rebound and go, then he would be a bit more successful,
that being said I think in Milwaukee he is one of the stronger rebounders
so he has more of a rebounding and outlet role, moreso than a run the wings role, if he plays the SF spot who’s rebounding?
this is all speculation I dont watch the milwaukee bucks, 8D

SlimParticipantstudy Oscar Robertson and Magic Johnson
other post up guards. Develop your all around skill
1) bank shots
2) getting to the free throw line
3) passing out of a double team
4) initiating the fast break (unless your PG is behind you waiting for the outlet pass lol)
and when you get the opportunity to play show the doubters wrong.0 - Posted on: Sat, 12/19/2009 - 2:17am #239574
