The LeBron James Skills Academy is a four-day camp (in Akron, OH) for 20
of the top college players in the country and 80 high school players from each
of the four previous Nike Skills Academies. The purpose of the camp is fundamental
skill development and evaluation from top instructors.
Instructors for the camp are highlighted by Jay Bilas,
Craig Ehlo, Fran Frachilla, Kenny Atkinson, Kyle Manary along with a host of
other NBA Development personnel.
College players attending the
camp are:
- Cole Aldrich
- Jeff Allen
- Al-Farouq Aminu
- Patrick Christopher
- Dwayne Collins
- Jordan Crawford
- Malcolm Delaney
- Devin Ebanks
- Yancy Gates
- Manny Harris
- Jerome Jordan
- Kalin Lucas
- Larry Sanders
- Iman Shumpert
- DeShawn Sims
- Kyle Singler
- Edwin Ubiles

- Chris Wright
Notable high school players
in attendance:

Class of 2011

- Marquis Teague
- Austin Rivers
- Johnny O’Bryant
Players at the camp were divided
by position with a primary focus on skill development. The intention
of the camp is not to play games as the players are receiving intense
instructional workouts. There are no college coaches in attendance
but a number of NBA scouts. This gives the players the ability
to focus on skill development rather than trying to impress college
coaches.
The workouts for the college players have been intense,
again with a focus on skill development. All players have been receptive to
this learning environment. The level of intensity in the college workouts is
noticeably higher than the high school sessions. This is partially due to the
instructor-to-player ratio and the focus of the college players (with NBA scouts
present).
At the conclusion of the camp we will provide player evaluations
on the most impressive college and high school players. In addition to evaluations
we will have interviews with players and instructors.
Scouts
Not having college coaches there but having NBA scouts pretty much defeats the purpose of not having coaches there to impress. Guys are more interested in impressing NBA scouts than NCAA coaches anyway.
