Some Perspective on all these ‘Great’ PGs in the League right now

I 100% agree with you when discussing the best ever at anything…you have to take the best and compare. Some guys you named (I love that you included Mark Price) had great careers and are never talked about.

most dummies just pick th most popular names and dont even check stats same with mcdyess,larry johnson, jermaine oneal

I agree that a lot of people are ready to hand over the best ever status way too easily. I’m not sure how it is possible to even consider a guy that has only played in the NBA a few years or not at all as one of the best ever.

To me, guys like CP3 and Deron Williams have been great so far, but have not played enough to even be considered greatest of all times. I have seen plenty of players go from stars to falling off the map completely. A recent example would be Stephon Marbury. His numbers were so good that even though he hasn’t done much of anything the past four years, that he still has some amazing career numbers. In the case of Derrick Rose, even though I doubt this will happen to him, I have seen guys that had their best years as rookies and then never did much else (i.e., Christian Laettner…18.2 pts and 8.7 rebs per game…rookie season).

By the way, all the guys you named were excellent examples. It’s unfortunate that they will probably become completely forgotten. Off of the top of my head some other amazing players that will probably fall in that category include guys like Mark Jackson, Dennis Rodman, Chris Mullin and Mitch Richmond.

I would say Paul is well on his way to becoming one of the grestest point guards ever. His numbers are beyond what any point guard since Magic has done at this stage in his career.

penny hardaway doesn’t get much love either. he was amazing in orlando and he was a pg. plus he had cool commercials. haha

I think they might be the exception to this rule. To me, they both have the makings of all time great point guards, not just based on stats, but on the way they play. If you watch either of these two players, they completely control the pace of the game, they dominate in more ways than just scoring points and dishing out assists, unlike Marbury. Over the past 4 years, both have had exceptional stats, and have continued to improve each year. If they continue at their current pace, both will be Hall of Famers.

I think Paul is definitely set to be top ten points of all time but I understand what yall are saying. I have seen a lot of great points over the years and I also remember when there were more top point guards than there is now. You still have some old guys seemingly in the top 5 because no one young have stepped it up cept for Paul and Williams. I also like Williams too but he has kinda came on a lil and has been injuried but he also could be mention because if you look at his physical gift along with his skills there has not be many point like him. Paul could get hurt by being on a bad team though.

i bet in the absolute prime of cp3’s career he could end up averaging 24 13 and 4 some steals…. i think thats easily warrant for the greatest ever… close race behind magic..
