morestealsthanscoresParticipantWhat’s the most you’d give up for Jimmy Butler?
The risk of him leaving is huge, so I think you’d have to be a team in a position to take that risk – either because your best players are locked up for a long time, it’s your last resort before a rebuild, or you’re going all in for a Championship. I went through every team and thought about what the most I’d give up would be, and then listed the best packages for the T’Wolves. They’re not great – but I don’t think the market will be high, so they’re better than getting nothing when he walks in a year’s time!
Rockets – their championship window is closing and CP3 isn’t getting younger – plus they have no-one to match up with bigger wings – Gordon/Tucker/1st
Jazz – are a decent team but have no clear route to improving, and won’t land anyone in free agency without a move like this – Ingles/Burks/1st
OKC – have history with this sort of move and George/Westbrook locked up – Schroder/Abrines/1st
Raptors – doubling down on this risky season with Kawhi – Danny Green/Powell/1st
Portland – nothing to lose as might need to blow it up anyway – Harkless/Aminu/1st
Thoughts?

ZouldiersParticipantT-Wolves will lose Jimmy Butler for nothing if they keep this up.

HobbyOGParticipantHeat Trade:
Josh Richardson $9,367,200
Kelly Olynyk $12,137,527
2019 First round Pick (Top 3 protected)
2020 Second round pick
Timberwolves Trade:
Jimmy Butler $20, 445,779
Weak draft so I’m not worried about the draft pick, Jimmy seems interested in Miami so it could be long-term. This also helps Miami get these long undeserving contracts off the books.
Knicks Trade:
Tim Hardway $17,325,000
Frank Ntilikina $4,155,720
2019 First round pick (top 3 protected)
Timberwolves trade:
Jimmy Butler $20,445,779
I’m not sold on Frank as a game changer NBA, Knicks should of drafted Dennis Smith and it will hunt them for years. Minnesota adds a shooter in the line-up with TH.
Clippers Trade:
Avery Bradley $12,000,000
Patrick Beverly $5,027,028
Lou Williams $8,000, 000
2019 First round pick (Top 5 protected)
Timberwolves trade:
Jimmy Butler $20, 445,779
Anthony Tolliver $5,750,000
This gives Tibbs two defensive minded guards, which he will love. And a scorer to come off the bench.Jimmy wants to be in LA, win-win for everyone. Clippers free up $20 million also for next year FA getting rid of the multi year contracts of Bradley and Lou. Also will give more playing time for the rookie guards the Clippers just drafted back to back.

KHAM83ParticipantIf the Knicks believe the Irving-Butler rumors are true, I see them going in for Butler. Wolves get a shooter in THJ and a young pg who does have potential. Knicks can then try to sign Irving this Summer.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantThe first rounder in 2019 would be a deal breaker for the Knicks imo. Even with butler, the Knicks are probably not a playoff team in the east since porzingis is likely to miss at least half the season. That means they would essentially be forking over 2 lottery picks to get Butler, with no assurances that it would lead to them kyrie as well.
If I’m Minnesota I’m absolutely taking that deal.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantWhat are the chances Minnesota just doesn’t trade butler at all, or at least not in the forseeable future? He’s reportedly said he intends to play when the season starts whether they trade him or not. Sure, it would be awkward as hell having him on the court and in the locker room, but it’s not like there isnt precedent for a player rejoining a team after he makes it clear he doesn’t want to be there. Who knows? Maybe they gel and get off to a hot start and everyone’s attitude changes. Seems unlikely but not impossible. If Minnesota hasn’t gotten an offer they deem acceptable yet, it seems unlikely they would get one before the season starts. So the most likely scenario is that they would have to lower their expectations or just hold out and force butler to play. It honestly might be worth the risk to just keep butler for now.

HobbyOGParticipantThe longer they wait the less they’l prob get for him. I can’t see a "change of heart" he wants to be in a bigger market and doesn’t want to play with young players.

Andv1 WaitingParticipantMost of the intial proposed deals won’t happen:
Jazz-Ingles is their Draymond green/glue guy..So I sort of see them not doing this and prefering to build around Donovan M and going the Pistons route(a deeper team) vs Super star route…
Raptors- Lol just lol..That isn’t even remotely fair to the T-wolves.The pick would have to be unprotected and even then if Kawhi stays it would probably be a late first at best..
Portland. See Raptors..
OKC deal this is also a no sadly as unless they have a move for teague then its sort of redundent…Dennis S,Abrines,Grant + a future first would probably barely be a starting point well unless we some how took on Diengs deal + gave them our next available first also..( Gorgi not Luol) but boy would we be capped out for years to come..
See deals proposed by: Hobby OG * except the Heat one they all seem more balance for both sides…Clippers fair,Knicks fair sort of they both get want they want: A star player and needs for the T-wolves..

morestealsthanscoresParticipantOh, totally – I don’t disagree that they’re not great deals for Minnesota. But I also don’t see the Heat, Clippers, or Knicks giving up that much without absolute assurances they’ll resign – similar to the seemingly lopsided (at the time) Paul George trade.
RE: the Jazz (the only one that you thought got Minnesota a good deal) – I think it’d be a risk I’d be willing to take (even though you’re right, the Jazz won’t do it). Ingles isn’t a player that takes you the next step, or destroys your team if you lose him. With both Gobert and Mitchell locked up long term, you’ve got time to take a couple of risks to get that third star – and I think Butler is a good enough player to take that risk for!

khaled_a_dParticipantAs a Mavs fan, I might think to roll the dice with Barnes for Butler trade.
Barnes has player option for next year, so the risk for the Mavs are minimal. Wolves get a good player and probably a better teammate who is 3 years younger.
Not sure if it is enticing for the Wolves, for the Mavs it is risk worthy IMHO especially with the fact that we have only 2 young players and plenty of veterans who can keep him in check0 - AuthorPosts
