     This is interesting…Thoughts?

     

    The NCAA will allow "elite" high school and college players to be represented by agents. The initial proposal indicates USA Basketball would determine the "elite" criteria.

    Players can be eligible for the NBA Draft and return to school if they go undrafted.

     So it’s Basically only for Players that received Invites to the Nba Combine and go Undrafted. R the ones that Can return to school and have an Agent!!  Smh!!

    It has always bothered me that the NCAA has not allowed undrafted players to return to school. In no other area does a university punish a student for applying for a job. Far too often players get starry-eyed, receive bad advice, or both, and then head down a path that makes getting to the NBA or NFL much more difficult. 

    My concern with agents only comes if the loans an agent give a player while in college are predatory, which connects to the undrafted player rule. Trevon Duval went undrafted. If memory serves, he went into last year largely viewed as a lottery into the teens kind of prospect. Likewise, what about career-altering injuries. Harry Giles got in as a second rounder, but went in with many figuring him to be a lottery pick. Isaiah Austin did not. How will that work out?

       Harry Giles went 20th in the 2017 draft despite his injury history.

        You are right. I flipped Skal and Giles in my mind, but the greater point remains. I think it is common sense for the NCAA to allow guys to apply for jobs, and then return to school if they don’t get one. It also stands to reason that there should be concern for what happens when agents sign players who – for whatever reason- have their careers derail before they really start.

           Skal went 28th in 2016.

          I agree with your point that the NCAA often lack in common sense entirely. The point in guys going to school is to get work later on, no one should be penalized for attempting to get work. The NCAA only cares about getting paid and it’s image.

     How do you sign an agent without money changing hands?

    Is this like having a contract with the WWF in 1985?

       I would assume its the agents responsibility to find the player he or she is representing a contract and then the agent gets a percentage of the contract that is negotiated.

     Now word has came out that the USA basketball and the NBA was blindsided by this move and has not agree to do this lol..Come on NCAA..You can bully the players but not The NBA.

       Allowing top prospects to sign with agents because of team USA’s recommendation without them agreeing is concerning. The rest seems largely negligible and seems unlikely to effect the NBA even though they didn’t get their assurance.

    The news that the NBA & USA Basketball were blindsided by the NCAA’s moves are BS. Both the NBA & USA Basketball have been on speed dial. 

    I like the moves the NCAA is making. 

    – They’re going to start allowing juniors to take official visits, which is great since the university will pay for those visits. Now, those high level junior athletes who couldn’t afford unofficial visits don’t have to deal with shady individuals, etc who were paying for them to get there. 

    – Agents not only have to be cleared by the NBA, but now by the NCAA as well. 

    – They’re allowing those players who go pro the opportunity to return to school and finish their degree at no cost. 

    – It’s possible there’ll be camps, with player invites, to determine those “elite” level players who’ll be eligible to have an agent.
