OhCanada-ParticipantVery happy for Derozan. He’s going to be able to reach his full potential being coached by Popavich and should continue being an MVP finalist threat. Not sure how the Spurs got Derozan a 1st round pick and Poeltl for Kawhi Leonard on a one year rental and Danny Green but hey whatever.
My guess is Toronto is going all in this year to try to reach the Eastern Conference finals with the one man in the league that can scare/compete with the Warriors or Lebron. After this year he leaves and Toronto begins the rebuild.
Sad day for me but something had to give and at least he got a proper landing spot where he can eventually become one of the greats. Much love Demar.

BallerScriptParticipantHuge DeRozan fan here
I feel real bad for him but then again it is a business and San Antonio should treat him well0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/18/2018 - 12:13pm #1122612

OhCanada-ParticipantDerozan is one of the hardest workers in the NBA and one of the truly humblest down to earth guys in the league. Everyones gonna find that out now that he plays in the states. His character is honestly similar to Tim Duncans in that manner. He’s just been waiting for a guy to mentor and listen to. Him and Popavich will be an absiolutely dynamic duo that will terrorize the league. Just watch San Antonio stays on top again.
All my bets are on Derozan this year everyones gonna see how much this guy was carrying the Raptors organization.

OhCanada-ParticipantAlso just wanna point out Im betting if this doesnt work out Masai Ujiri and his entire staff will end up without jobs very soon. Cant be lying to a well established NBA Allstar about being off limits to trades then trade him. Masai’s gotta go asap because nobody wanted to play in Toronto before so now they look even worse.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantPrior to the trade, the window to get to the finals for Toronto was 2019 and 2020. At that point, Lowry, Ibaka, Miles, and Valanciunas are all free agents. Whether it was a heavy rebuild or a transition, the summer of 2020 was always going to be a turning point. Wright, VanVleet, Anunoby, and Siakam showed that they can be in a contending rotation, but does Toronto believe they can take the next step in being important players (a big leap) on a contender. This trade probably moves that up a year, and only pushes it off should Kawhi ultimately decide to stay. That said, for 2019, they are better positioned to win the East. Kawhi needs to rebuild his reputation. That said, if he gets back to his 2016-17 form, he is the best player in the East. He has dominated playoff series in a way DeRozan never has.
It is a big risk. Frankly, part of that gamble is the scenario where Toronto gets to the Finals, loses in 6, Kawhi leaves, and then front office has to wonder if they are afforded the chance to rebuild?

Memphis MadnessParticipantThat we are even contemplating the Spurs possibly winning this trade speaks volumes.
I think Kawhi is kinda damaged goods.

Miko4rm206ParticipantDeMar can’t be Trusted to get it done. Your Leader/ all-star can’t just bow down and not perform whenever he Plays LeBron. We seen how Tatum and Brown and Morris play LeBron not to mention the Pacers.
Kawhi is the best thing that could ever happen to Toronto. Even for a half of year / good run in the playoffs. You guys was not gonna go that Far with Kyle lower and DeMar Derozens backcourt. Just being real

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantIt’s going to be interesting seeing the spurs play through 2 guys in Aldridge and derozan who prefer to isolate and score off contested mid-range shots. Not exactly the blueprint for efficient offense in today’s nba. But if anyone can make it work, it’s popovich. This could actually be a really good opportunity for derozan and I think he’ll realize that once he gets over the initial disappointment and shock of being traded.
