Celtics3178ParticipantI know it seems crazy Steph has MVPs multiple titles and the warriors look unstoppable at the moment but hear me out. Kyrie is 4 years younger then steph. He’s yet to hit his prime and is the best player on his team with keys to the driver seat. Even though Kyrie is 4 years younger he’s only been in the league for 2 more year. Below career stats:
Steph Curry: FG% .477 3fg% .436 free .903 ppg 23.1 reb 4.4 asst 6.8
Kyrie Irving: FG% .462 3fg% .388 free .8.75 ppg 22.0 Reb 3.4 Asst 5.5
Steph has 4,800 more points 1,200 more rebounds 1,800 more Assists 600 more steals and 0ayed 200 more games. Kyrie has 14 more blocks. Kyrie has a larger playing window and doesn’t have as much talent around him even though there’s a lot. Steph has passed cp3 Russell Wall and the rest. Kyrie is the Steph of the future guards. He’s leaps and bounds above all this competition in his age group. He has the ROY that Steph never got. He’s got a ring even though Steph has more. He has a chance to win MVP this year with the east being so weak and the Celtics so deep they could win 70 games. Not saying he will but he could pass steph.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantBest pg of all time? Have you ever heard of Magic Johnson?

whiteflashParticipantAs great as Magic was, he went to a team with four other HOF’ers. I’d personally put Isaiah Thomas as the best PG of all time.

SubZeroParticipantI don’t normally like being this guy, but I feel like if you’re gonna say anything about him with confidence, at least know it’s “Isiah,” not “Isaiah”

whiteflashParticipantPhone auto corrected that, my man. The point still remains.

Kwame33ParticipantMagic at point early in his career had 4 HOF teammates and Isiah at one point had 3 HOF teammates. So your point is what exactly?

whiteflashParticipantThomas led a team with Joe Dumars as it’s second best player to TWO NBA championships. Magic had the NBA’s all time leading scorer on his team. Arguing who had the better team is laughable.

mcbaileyParticipantYou’d think you would expand more on why you think Curry is the best of all time, since that’s fairly controversial. I personally don’t think he’s particularly close to Magic, and a case could be made for a player like Robertson or Stockton. He’s the best shooter, but that’s not the question.
That said, I feel like Kyrie is older than you seem to think. At 26, he only has a couple more years if he’s going to improve in any meaningful sort of way, so you have to consider their respective strengths. Kyrie is a great shooter in his own right, but Steph is better hands down. Kyrie has better handles and driving ability. They’re both roughly the same defensively.
Your argument boils down to Kyrie’s potential meaningless stats in a weak conference. That’s fine, but I’m not sure this topic gets much traction unless Kyrie shows he can play more and actually starts winning again.

CoachWyersParticipantBecause the OP is a kid and hasn’t seen anyone play beyond the Steph Curry era probably.

RUDEBOY-ParticipantYeah Magic has the PG position on Lock for the foreseeable future. To be Honest when it’s all said and done. I think CP3 will be rated higher than Kyrie Irving.

DondiJohnParticipantHow dare you disrespect the likes of Magic, Stockton, Oscar and every other person who played before those two? How young are you?

cohenbc1ParticipantYou were drunk when you posted this, weren’t you? (No judgment here, just saying).
Nothing against Kyrie, who’s a really good player, but I’m not sure he will "pass" Westbrook and Lillard, let alone become the best PG of all time.
Which, by the way, is not going to be Curry. He’s spectacular, already a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Maybe he’ll be in the argument for second-greatest, if he can continue at this level for several more years. But he’s not in the same category as Magic.
The only current NBA player with the slightest of chances to become the best PG of all time is Ben Simmons.

ballup23ParticipantBut it seems like Kyrie is underrated here imo. Look at the way he’s been able to produce on the big stage, the way he stands out even amongst the best players, and just the sheer skill level. He’s imo the most SKILLED scoring point guard of the modern era. I can’t think of any SCORING pg packing the ability to handle, use both hands, and shoot from from everywhere as well as him. That’s without even touching on his finishing ability at the rim which is just absurd. Curry is great (best shooter ever imo) but I can’t ignore the innate belief that if Kyrie were on the Warriors in his place he would be looked at/ranked a bit higher than some seem to have him in. I have him right after Westbrook in my PG rankings

ballup23ParticipantNot a scoring pg and couldnt finish over defenders nearly as well.

Ahkasi ClayParticipantAll time leader in assist and steals, the best pure point guard ever
But i do understand those that make a case for Magic. Dude was incredible.

SubZeroParticipantKyrie’s borderline top 5 in the league right now and won’t ever be the best in the league at any given time. I get Kyrie played really well in the Finals and is probably the most gifted scorer at the position right now, but people love overhyping him because he’s flashy and good for videos on twitter

rainingthreesParticipantThis isn’t the first time people have used "Steph Curry" and "greatest of all time" in the same sentence. And not only greatest PG, but actual GOAT. This is ridiculous. At the very least, at this point in time. Steph is outstanding, but has been so for a very limited amount of time. Out of his 9 seasons in the league, he’s had maybe 2 great seasons, and 4 outstanding seasons. He had his first outstanding season at age 24, his fourth season in the NBA. I think that alone excludes him. He’s already 29 and I think for him to be in the same sentence as Magic, and no better than 2nd all-time best PG, he’ll have to have another 5 outstanding/great seasons to get there.
Note: Should we even mention defense, though? He’s a phenom on the offensive end, but his D, as brought up in the famous Durant-Westbrook press conference, is uncommentable, and laughable. While D may not be "half the game" as they say, given that teams like the Warriors play team D and can cover for Steph, it should still count for, I dunno, 25-33% (?) of a guy’s overall ranking among the greats.
Compare all that to Magic, whose EVERY season in the league was great. Starting at age 20. For 12 straight seasons. That’s almost unheard of.
In fact, all the truly greats, the guys on the list for GOAT, showed that incredible consistency. Never a down year. Look at Michael. Every season (apart from 2nd, missed time), for 13 years, he was at the top of the league. And he played All-D team defense too.
Apart from a very good rookie season, at age 19, Lebron has been incredible for 14 straight seasons. And he plays defense.
Steph is a unique player. The best shooter ever. An offensive wizard. An okay leader. A below average defender. He’ll be in the Hall of Fame. He’ll be Top 20 all time. He won’t be Top 10 unless he plays like his MVP seasons for the next 5 years straight. IMHO.
