I don’t know about you, but I’d be a bit concerned to be a teammate of Kanter given how politically vocal he is and how how the guy gets 5 death threats  a day. I’d imagine being in tbhe wrong place at the wrong time with this guy and something happening. Would anyone else feel unsafe with having Kanter as a teammate?

This is nothing new under the sun. Think about how many family members of celebrities go through the same issues prior to the social media demographic. It’s life. Either, a person will let it consume them, or they will live their life appreciating the moments that are meaningful. There is always a choice.

Not to be a prick, but what’s the difference between dying today and dying tomorrow?

Theres a big difference when you are leaving behind a family that you are responsible for supporting.

Other players down the years have said and done some controversial things so Kanter’s views are probably no more extreme than those. The NBA players live fairly much in a bubble during the season but mixing with him off court and in downtime might be something they would consider not doing.

Just an FYI, Kanter is wanted by the totalitarian Turkish government for speaking out against the Dictator’s regime. This is not in the same vein as " some controversial things" that some player may have said. I don’t recall anyone taking a stand against a goverment. Maybe nowadays in the light of Michael Flynn taking money to kidnap a Turkish national and return them to Erdojan in the dead of the night there is a cance something can happen to him, but its highly unlikely anything would happen to him in the US.

Speaking of Kanter, where’s he off to next? I think he has, at most, one more year in New York. If Mitchell Robinson and KP both look ok in the new year, I think he’s gone by the trade deadline. He’s not the best defender, but he’s not Jahlil Okafor either. His PER was really high, he can score and get boards too.

In relation to him likely to be assassinated for being against the Turkish government, well, i suppose nothing would surprise. I understand he’d be quite near the top of their shit list. Id be steering clear of post bender kebabs with him.

Could win the MIP this year. Contract year. In line for a ton of KP’s touches and minutes. 20-10 threat.

it would be a concern for sure. turkey does not have a good human rights record. they can be very reckless. they openly beat protesters on us soil. i think one has to consider they might be in the crossfire when they are around him

Think about it… Is hanging out with Kanter really more dangerous than some of the neighborhoods that these players grew up in and some of the company NBA players still keep? Players still get in trouble all the time for hanging out at nightclubs, visiting old neighborhoods etc and they are more likely to run into some gang bangers at a club than a bunch of Turkish nationalists with Kanter lol.

On the floor Kanter seems like a good teammate. He is always vocal cheerleading and not afraid to stick up for a teammate.

In times where Lebron, Curry and others get praised for speaking out about social justice issues, you would think Kanter should get some mad respect as well.
