Is Mo Wagner showing glimpses of greatness?

We all know who most recently signed with the Lakers and what whatever a person in San Antonio is willing to play for but let’s talk about Mr. Moritz Wagner for a second.
In his Summer League games he looked pretty much fantastic and it seems many people on here think he should start for the Lakers in whatever lineup next season and to be honest I can’t blame them. He is a much better all around player then I thought he is and checks many boxes in my view. I just don’t see many holes in his game. He was posterized not only once but he always going at you when you finish against him and the mobility for his length and size is pretty fluid, coordinated and also good level of efficiency. He reads the game well, can see open players and can also shoot it routinely. Well it’s all summer league but this seems to be a pretty well polished player and the antithesis to physical monsters like Bamba or Ayton and that is the competition he has to face next season.
I like his game and maybe he could give them 20+ good minutes from the start and and that alongside LeBron for the Lakers universum. What a career start for a first round draft pick and I am officially on this train now with him.
No, he won’t be anywhere near the top 3 big men in the rookie rankings next summer but I luke really see him fitting in well there.
What does the nbadraft nation think about him and next years role which by the way won’t depend much on any further trades regarding Kawhi (KaWHY) or whoever imo. If Melo lands in LA he could snatch some of Wagner’s minutes but overall the loss of Randle and his good all around stats of 18/9/3(!) and minutes have to be filled and the center spot is up for grabs and I don’t really see someone better coming there soon.

Love what Im seeing. Hes bigger and stronger then i expected. He rebounds very well. Jumper is money. I have no doubt he will be in the rotatio as either the starting center or backup center who gets decent minutes.

Ah… the summer league hype…
Wagner, while polished offensively, is horrendous on defense. i doubt he’ll stay out of foul trouble long enough to stay on the floor.

If you go back in the lead up to the draft, i really pushed hard for this guy being a first rounder when he was initially mocked late 2nd. I had him mocked as high as Denver at 14 at one stage, then i was convinced he’d be a Spur. I think I settled predicting the Blazers would grab him, but he went to the Lakers just after.
That personal drive was evident in watching his college games. He is 7 feet and his stroke has always looked natural from 3 too. Put those things together, he’s already better than a lot of guys that currently get minutes just because they are 6’10″+ and they can shoot the three. He will be as effective as K-Love when Lebron is there with him. That is a bold statement, but I really cant see why he cant do the same job on offense.

While “glimpses of greatness” is probably going a little overboard, I do view him as one of the more nba ready players in the draft and I think he could play a pretty significant role from day one. The lakers don’t really have another big who can do what he can offensively. I love the energy and passion with which he plays the game. But he is going to struggle defensively, as he has slow feet and isn’t particularly strong in the upper body, nor explosive off the floor. I view his ceiling as somewhere in the Olynyk/kaminsky range, which could make him a valuable rotation big in the league for a long time.

Let’s not get carried away..it’s summer league..Glen Rice and Tyus Jones have won summer league MVP, what kind of impact have they had in the League? As a Laker fan, I like what I see but it’s summer league bruh…

  Glenn Rice jr is head case and as much immature person you can be but in tearms of talent is a top notch… Tyus Jones was better last year in the little minutes he got than Jeff Teague, tom tiboudo just so stubborn to play Teague and his guy Rose over him which was stupid…

  honestly while the tornado is kind of stretching it.. its not a bad comparison.

Well, I guess waiting for two good games is an improvement from the Furkan Korkmaz thread.
Wagner has a great skill set for a big man, and will seemingly benefit greatly from having LeBron and Rondo to set him up as a rookie. Open shots and gimmees at the rim are a rookie’s best friend, and I think he will get those. If the Lakers end up with a keeper who can contribute on a competitive team for the entirety of his rookie deal, that would be an A-grade pick. If come February, he and Kyle Kuzma are good enough to become centerpieces in a Kawhi trade, the Lakers should build a second statue of Magic.
