CoachWyersParticipantDepth Chart (Assuming with last two roster spots they will re-sign Brook Lopez as rumored and second round pick Svi Mykhailiuk.) Included are two-way players Alex Caruso and Malik Newman.
C Brook Lopez/Javale McGee/Ivica Zubac
PF Lebron James/Kyle Kuzma/Mo Wagner
SF Brandon Ingram/Josh Hart/Isaac Bonga/Luol Deng
SG Kentavious Caldwell Pope/Lance Stephenson/Svi Mykhailiuk
PG Lonzo Ball/Rajon Rondo/Alex Caruso/Malik NewmanMinutes Distribtion (Total 240min, not including minutes for non-rotation guys who would pickup minutes in garbage time, foul trouble, if injuries occur)- Lebron James 34, Lonzo Ball 30, Brandon Ingram 28, Kyle Kuzma 28, Kentavious Caldwell Pope 27, Josh Hart 22, Brook Lopez 21, Rajon Rondo 16, Lance Stephenson 14, Javale McGee 12. That leaves 8 minutes to give to non-rotation guys (Wagner/Zubac/Svi/Bonga/Deng/Caruso/Newman) or distribute between top 10 guys.

cohenbc1ParticipantI think it would be insane to pay Rondo what they’re paying him and only play him 16 minutes a game. He played 26 minutes per game for the Pelicans last year and had his best season in years. Besides, he’d be a ticking time bomb, sitting that much.
If they made him strictly Ball’s backup, that would mean the Lakers are — not tanking exactly, but not really pursuing a title in 2018-19, but instead using the season to develop young talent before making their big move the following summer. I’m not so sure LeBron would be down with that.
Likewise, Lance Stephenson averaged 23 minutes last year. Did he really come to LA to sit behind guys who, right now, he’s better than? And McGee could have gotten 12 minutes a game with the Warriors, who supposedly wanted him back … I think he switched teams so he could re-establish himself as a legitimate starting C.
By the way, I do this same thing … trying to project the rotations and playing time of each roster, before every season. I have notebooks filled with this stuff. I’m just telling you this in case you sometimes feel weird about it. You are not alone!

CoachWyersParticipantHaha don’t feel weird about it at all. I have done it for about 20 years now and have a running document of rotations for every NBA team on my computer updated everytime there is a transaction. Makes the offseason fun and helps prep me for my keeper fantasy basketball league.
Plus making rotations, scouting players and determining their upside/strength/weaknesses etc. is in my DNA have been a college assistant or high school varsity head coach for past 19 years.

The GoatParticipantLopez shouldn’t be back. Just give the minutes to Wagner and McGee

llperezdisagree, at a cheap price hes really underrated. Certainly better then mcgee and wagner
he was just used so inconsistently last season
oct/nov: 23mpg…13ppg
dec: 20mpg…11ppg
jan: 17mpg…9ppg
feb: 25mpg…12ppg
mar: 31mpg…19ppg
april: 22mpg…10ppg
In march they actually utilized him on offense. He scored 19 per on 55%fg and had 8 games over 20 points. They also had their second highest win % as a team that month all season. I say bring him back

Andv1 WaitingParticipantFor the Lakers:
Javale will start-They will use him either as a bogut light or Tristan thompson clone…
Lopez will be off the bench.
Rondo will probably Start if Lonzo is legit injured and not going to be ready for the season..Then after that will probably get 20 mins per game so Lonzo doesn’t break down and can get used to his new size/last a full season…
I would also proably prefer to start Hart over KCP as he is less of a knuckle head on the offense and does the same things on defense as KCP if not better..

HitsterParticipantA lot will depend on how Like Walton wants to run his systems. Do they try to watch LBJ’s minutes or will he carry the team as they are paying him to do as such.
When LBJ goes to the bench or when they go smallball they may well run a 3 guard unit with KCP or Stephenson playing as a psuedo SF. I just don’t see Lonzo and Rondo on court at the same time as both really need the ball and for one to play off ball would be be hard. Rondo has always been a pass first PG and Lonzo is being groomed as such so to expect Rondo to change would be hard and Lonzo you’d want with the ball unless LBJ will take take most point duties.
Having 2 or 3 good creative players who can carry the ball on court could work if you went for a very quick passing game put you’d need the other spots to be taken by shooters.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantAm I crazy to think that now that the Lakers have transitioned from playing their kids to trying to compete that Luol Deng will return to the rotation? In having Deng, James, Ingram, and Kuzma, the Lakers could theoretically play 6’9" plus "small ball" against the Rockets or Warriors.

llperezthere is zero reason to not play deng now unless they think he isnt good enough to help. He was only held out before because they went full on youth development. Reality is he is still a contributor in this league and it wouldnt surprise me at all if hes in the rotation. Problem is that hes probably strictly a pf now and i doubt they want to sacrifice kuzmas minutes too much plus they are talking about playing lebron at pf a good bit but i think he gets minutes this year.
