high floorParticipantI’ve been an avid NBA fan since the 1993 NBA Finals, where Jordan / Pippen / Barkley / Johnson went toe-to-toe in an awesome 6 game series. Since then, I’ve watched every draft & been enamored with projecting where players will go & how their careers will turn out. This year, I can’t remember a draft ever having a higher variance of possible outcomes.
- DeAndre Ayton has All NBA level talent & tools, but does he have the motor & desire to reach his potential?
- Luka Doncic is entering the league with one of the highest overall skill-levels & feel for a 19yo, ever. Will it translate to the pros?
- Jaren Jackson Jr hit three’s and blocked shots at a combined rate rarely ever seen by a current 18yo prospect. Can he be a go-to guy with more minutes & a higher usage?
- Marvin Bagley is awesome in space, and can finish almost anything near the rim. Can he man the Center position for 25+ minutes per game on a good team though?
- Mo Bamba is being dubbed as Rudy Gobert with a jumpshot. Can he live up to that super lofty billing?
- Michael Porter possesses top-2 talent….. but will his recent back injury linger & keep him from maximizing his full potential?
- Is Trae Young a 2018 version of Mike Bibby? Love that comparison.
- Will Wendell Carter prove me right, & become a super valuable 2-way glue guy?
I can’t wait for the draft next week. I’m absolutely fascinated with teams that will be rumored to trade up, and what they’re willing to give up. The aforementioned players have very high ceilings, but a few of them also have low floors…… making their destination even more intriguing with regards to their long term potential. Can’t. wait.

The best player the goes 15th overall, it takes the #2 (Oladipo) pick took 3 teams to prove his worth and the 27th pick (Gobert) looks like a franchise center piece.
Still there are potential All-Stars from that draft in McCollum & Porter Jr.
Not too mention starters in Steven Adams, KCP, Kelly Olynyk, Dennis Schroeder, Tim Hardaway Jr, Andre Roberson who still have room to grow.The draft wasn’t that bad just the teams picking higher tended to do a terrible job haha

whiteflashParticipantIt’s funny that I’ve gotten 26 thumbs down (and counting I’m sure), but not one person has provided a counterpoint. Bagley and maybe Ayton are gonna flourish, but guy’s like Sexton, Porter, Bamba, etc… aren’t NBA players right now. Sexton, for example, is an overrated athlete, shoot first pg who can’t shoot, defend and has terrible pg instincts. He averaged damn near as many to’s as assissts and less than a steal a game. He’s gonna get his a$$ handed to him in the bigs, and his attitude isn’t gonna help.

llperezThis doesn’t seem like that eye popping a draft to me but shouldn’t be fun. Especially once you get outside the top 10, seems to me like there is good depth but no sure things and lots of average prospects making it interesting to see how it plays out.

ChrispyParticipantI find drafts with a lot of similar-tier talent to be waaaay more interesting than drafts with lots of obvious ‘sure thing’ talent. Makes it more fun to get into the nitty-gritty details of player’s games and try to predict who will seperate themselves in the future. But, again, we are basketball nerds whom post on a basketball website. Aaaah, what a life… 🙂

high floorParticipantthere is a chance that this draft’s talent turns out to be kind of ‘meh’….. like a 2006 or 2000 draft….. good players and good depth. But no consistent All NBA selections
But there’s also a lot of upside. Trae Young could blow up, Michael Porter could be the guy many thought was a consensus top pick in 2017, Jaren Jackson could be an elite 2-way player, and Doncic could pick up where he left off via the Euroleague. Love the possible range of outcomes for not only these aforementioned players, but at least a dozen other likely first rounders
That’s what’s fun about this year’s draft. Due to the uncertainty, there possibly (likely) will be a ton of rumors for teams willing to trade up for a prospect they fall in love with too. Should be a very entertaining evening

whiteflashParticipantThat’s fair. I feel like there’s only one, maybe two sure things (can’t comment on Doncic ’cause I’ve only seen highlights) and the rest are gonna underwhelm. Of course I could be wrong, but I just don’t see it.

negguaryParticipant14 draft with Jabari, embeast and Wiggins as the top three but slot of other talented players like Julius Randle, Marcus smart, Zach LaVine, vonleh and overseas talent exam saric etc

BlueRivers25ParticipantBagley, Carter, Trent, Duval, and Allen. It’s going to be interesting to see where these guys end up.
I think Allen slides into the 1st round. Hopefully with Golden State late in the 1st.
I hope Bagley falls to Memphis. With a healthy Conley and Gasol, he can help them contend for a playoff spot.
I like to see Trent get picked by Philly late in the 1st.
Duval, needs to fall to a rebuilding team , like Atlanta or Orlando early in the 2nd round.
If Lebron stays in Cleveland, I hope they get Carter.

marcusfizer21ParticipantI’ve been looking forward to the NBA draft than watching the finals this year.
It remains to be seen how strong this class can be but it is intriguing how picks 2-10 will go considering the uncertainties. I am excited to see how it will all unfold. The last time I was this intrigued was in 2008.

SlickBouncePassParticipantdonte devincenzo is going to be my favorite player to watch coming out of this draft. he’s explosive has decent size and can do everything on the court. love those types of players. let’s see how far he rises up the 1st round. I really want Philly to grab him.

cominup7ParticipantAs OP mentioned, The best thing about this draft is just the amount of unique storylines and comparisons of the top prospects, many of whom most scouts can’t really place good comparisons on. Even casual fans probably have heard about the top prospects this yr just because of how interesting they are
Mo Bamba, one of the longest prospects in NBA history with Harvard smarts, Trae Young as Curry Jr., Luka the International superstar teenager, and Micheal Porter the preseason #1 coming off an injury with a mysterious medical report
There’s a lot of intrigue to this draft

whiteflashParticipantHeard for the second time in as many months that Phoenix offered Capela the max. CJ McCollum said it during the second round and McGrady said it today. If true, and Houston doesn’t match, can’t imagine Phoenix would draft Ayton. That move alone would shake up the entire draft.
