The Scare Crow RisesParticipantAnd who stands to gain the most to win and lose during the lottery?
Obviously Boston wins and Brooklyn loses, same thing can be said of Philly and LA…
So what are your thoughts, who wins on May 16th, who loses???

Anton123ParticipantInterestingly, Orlando has a lot to gain from the lottery. If the Lakers fall out of the top 3, they will convey their 2019 first round pick to Orlando, I think the pick is unprotected. So both Philly and Orlando will really hope the Lakers lose their pick.

MatosParticipantI didn’t know that. As a Philly native, thats not good news for us. I’ve always been strongly on the side of the theorists who claim the lottery is rigged. I can’t see the league allowing perhaps the greatest franchise of all time (Lakers) to lose lottery picks in multiple years.

Celtics
Lakers

HitsterParticipantAs a Phoenix fan I’d like us to win it or at least remain in top 2 or 3. The Lakers have a lot to lose or gain. Sacramento cannot end up with top pick as NOP have top 3 protection on the DMC traded pick and Philly can swap picks with the Kings. NOP getting lottery luck to add a top young player alongside Davis and AD would be huge for them.
Philly have two shots at top pick and if the Lakers pick comes over they have great options in a deep draft.
As a neutral I wouldn’t mind the Magic getting some lottery luck.
My feeling is that the Knicks might get some luck this year but Boston get top pick and Phoenix stay in top 3.

BleedGreen808ParticipantI’m just hoping Boston stays in the top 3. It would be great to get the #1 pick since Boston has never won the lottery since it became a thing. That would put them in the best position possible to get a star player by using the pick or trading it for an established one.

Robb_CParticipantLakers get the first, its just set up too perfectly for them not to happen.
0- Posted on: Thu, 04/27/2017 - 6:33pm #1096351

Reptilian MonkParticipantsounds like you think the lottery is rigged? no way an organization worth 10’s of billions wants certain star players and storylines in certain cities to generate lots of money. Hometown Lonzo to the struggling Lakers, with legendary point guard Magic now running things and the Ball brand with outspoken loud dad who makes headlines constantly, is a homerun for the Nba
0- Posted on: Thu, 04/27/2017 - 10:26pm #1096356

Robb_CParticipantYou say rigged, Adam Silver would say maximizing marketing potential.. we all saw this when the Bulls landed Rose with a slim chance at the first pick.

EndlessknightParticipantI’m hoping both the Sixers and Lakers end up top 3. Would much rather have the Lakers pick next year with a chance for Porter or Doncic than getting a Malik Monk level player this year.

BallerScriptParticipant- Celtics (Via BKN) – Fultz
- Lakers – Ball
- Sixers (Via SAC) – Josh Jackson
- Phoenix Suns – Tatum
- Kings (Via PHI) – Fox
- Orlando Magic – Isaac
- Minnesota Timberwolves – Ntilikina
- New York Knicks – Smith
- Mavericks – Markannen
- Kings (Via NOP) – Monk
- Hornets – Leaf
- Pistons – Allen
- Nuggets – Justin Jackson
- Heat – Zach Collins
Kings move up to 5 as their pick goes to Philly while the Suns fall to 4

LovebugParticipantDoesn’t help the Kings much, so I hope it doesn’t happen
0- Posted on: Thu, 04/27/2017 - 7:35pm #1096353

BallerScriptParticipantIt does help them. It moves them up 3 spots.
0- Posted on: Thu, 04/27/2017 - 8:44pm #1096355
LovebugParticipantThere is a consensus top 3 with Fultz/Jackson/Ball
4 maybe Tatum
5-11 totally interchangeable
Smith/Fox/Nkitlina etc?
Markannen or Zach Collins can’t rise to 5?

r377ParticipantUnlikely as it will be I would like to see the Kings win the lottery – they have been out of the playoffs for years.
I can’t even remember the last time they had a top 3 pick ?
0- Posted on: Thu, 04/27/2017 - 5:53pm #1096344
EndlessknightParticipantIt’s mathematically impossible for the Kings to win the lottery i.e. get the #1 pick.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 04/27/2017 - 5:55pm #1096346

BleedGreen808ParticipantPhilly has the right to swap picks so the best pick they could get is #2. That’s assuming lottery comes out with Kings 1st and Philly 2nd.

SwatLakeCityParticipant- Lakers-Lonzo Ball
- Magic-Markelle Fultz
- Celtics(from Nets)- Josh Jackson (traded to Indy for Paul George and Indy pick. Boston gives up Crowder and Smart along with the 3rd pick to Indy.)
- Suns-Jayson Tatum
- Sixers-De’Arron Fox (trades pick to Sacramento for the 8th pick)
- Wolves-Jonathan Isaac (trades pick to Atlanta for the 19th pick, I think another piece or player will also be added to this trade but #6 for 19 is the main big piece of this trade.)
- Knicks-Malik Monk
- Kings-Dennis Smith (traded to Philly for De’Arron Fox
- Mavs-Frank Ntilikina
- Kings-Lauri Markannen
- Hornets-Terrance Ferguson (may be a little him for him, but Rich Cho needs to reach for him because this is his make or brake it year. He’s needs to show MJ that he deserves to stay. He has nothing to lose. Besides they need a two can play next Kemba. Jeremy Lamb will never work next to Kemba in the NBA. This is the pros not college. What worked in college won’t in the Pros)
- Pistons-TJ Leaf (I think they are really targeting Markannen but the Kings nabbed him two picks earlier so Pistons settle for Leaf.
- Heat-Zach Collins
- Nuggets-Jarrett Allen

SwatLakeCityParticipantI realized I had the last two picks of the lottery wrong. They need to be switched. Nuggetts have the 13th pick and the Heat have the 14th not the other way around. I also realized that while Rich Cho has nothing to lose and needs to swing for the fences with this, drafting Terrance Ferguson is not the way to do that. He has lost a lot of stock going internationally instead of playing for Arizona. They have an older veteran next to Kaminsky down low in Marvin Williams. Why not bring in a younger talent that is like him instead, and have Marvin Williams mentor this player and help mold him into being a younger version of him. I also don’t like Isaac at 6, he has never really impressed me. I’ve never understood why he is at the top of the draft this year. Yeah, he has the height but where’s the skill? I think he drops to very bottom of the top 10. So here is my revised mock lottery.
- Lakers-Lonzo Ball
- Magic-Markelle Fultz
- Celtics (from Nets)- Josh Jackson traded along with Crowder and Smart to Indy for PG13 and their pick)
- Suns- Jayson Tatum
- 76ers-De’Arron Fox (traded to Kings for their pick at 8)
- Wolves-Lauri Markannen (would be a dream pair next to KAT)
- Knicks-Malik Monk
- Kings-Dennis Smith (traded to Philly for the 5th pick)
- Mavs-Frank Ntilikina
- Kings-Jonathan Isaac. Can’t drop any lower than 10. He has potential and the height but his skills and talent level just isn’t there to me for the top so that makes him drop, but his potential and height is too much for him to continue dropping past 10.
- Hornets-TJ Leaf. A younger version of Marvin Williams, I think. Imagine if Williams got to mentor and help shape/mold Leaf into a player like him?
- Pistons-Zach Collins
- Nuggets- Jarrett Allen
- Heat-Ivan Rabb. I struggled with this one but I think the Heat need a stretch 4 next to Whiteside someone that can fill the void that losing Bosh created to that unfortunate blood disease. Maybe the Heat like the potential Rabb has and intend to use Bosh as a mentor for him. Maybe Rabb can become a younger poor man’s version of Bosh without the blood disease. 14 may be a bit too high for Rabb but the Heat really need a stretch 4 next to Whiteside and he’s the best available. Hartenstein could work but he may decide to stay overseas for awhile before he comes to the NBA. So there really isn’t a better fir here other than Justin Patton but he’s a Center, they already have a Center in Whiteside why crowd up the 5 spot for him?

EndlessknightParticipantWhat would the Kings give up to move to 5?
0- Posted on: Fri, 04/28/2017 - 11:54am #1096378
LovebugParticipantNothing much. No consensus for those picks. Smith or Fox or Nkitlina is a coin toss
0- Posted on: Fri, 04/28/2017 - 3:36pm #1096390
EndlessknightParticipantThen why would the Sixers do it? Not worth the risk of the player you want not being there at the Kings.
0- Posted on: Fri, 04/28/2017 - 5:06pm #1096393
LovebugParticipantI agree. Which was why my first thought was yours. What would the Kings be giving up in that scenario? Don’t see it at all. Actually think the player the Sixers will pick will be there at 8 anyways if they don’t choose him (Monk)
0- Posted on: Sat, 04/29/2017 - 9:24am #1096413

OhCanada-ParticipantThe only thing is salary relief. 5th overall pick gets paid more than 8th.
Its happened before in sports but not often. Basically the poster is predicting both teams want a PG in this situation and Philly knows the Kings want Fox while the 76ers want Smith. So instead of drafting Smith they draft Fox and trade him for Smith.
The intention would be to get some additional assets pryed away from the Kings like draft picks or role players. Worst case scenerio they are stuck with Fox which wouldnt be so bad and if they badly want Smith and the Kings call thier bluff and force them to make the swap without gaining additional assets they get a bit of salary relief as the salary for the 5th and 8th pick is a different amount.
0- Posted on: Sat, 04/29/2017 - 10:04am #1096414
EndlessknightParticipantThe difference in cap hit between 5th and 8th is minimal plus the Sixers have trouble meeting the cap floor so taking a risk of missing out on the playing they really want would not be worth it.

2. Kings
3. Knicks

Memphis MadnessParticipantBlake goes to the Lakers if they draft Lonzo Ball.
If the Celtics get the top pick I think they trade it to the Clippers (plus other picks and assets) for Chris Paul.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 04/28/2017 - 1:18pm #1096384
Memphis MadnessParticipantThis draft is not that deep past 10 or 11. If I am picking 15-20 in the Justin Jackson/Luke Kennard range I trade down to the early/ mid 2nd round for multiple picks and cash. Get some guys on the cheap to fill out the rest of my bench. A Thornwell as a guy who can give you offense at the 2, Mason III as steady, cheap point guard depth. And, my man Tacko Fall declared for the draft. It’s funny… if he were like 7’1 he would be a top 10 pick…
0 - Posted on: Fri, 04/28/2017 - 1:26pm #1096385
Memphis MadnessParticipant^^^
I will trade out of the first and get these guys in the 2nd round/undrafted: Jordan Bell and Tacko Fall aka Tacko Bell… Sindarious Thornwell, Frank Mason, Jr., then a couple of versatile forwards in Nigel Hayes and Johnathan Williams. I will win the draft. Sue me…
