llperezokay so lets pretend you are a solid 3-4 star recruit with your choice of school but you’re not considered a real strong nba prospect so you have to imagine your going to a school for 4 years with the hopes of making yourself pro material.
So what factors would influence your choice of school?
who you grew up being a fan of?
Staying local or getting away from home?
Big city with lots to do or smaller town with less distractions?
the head coach and if so what traits in the head coach would you want such as his discipline, his coaching style, how well you get along with him and respect him? His results in developing players? His results in developing boys into men and not always prioritizing wins over character? how stable his standing with the school is that he wont be fired within 4 years or maybe he is a hot name and is a likely candidate to accept another position with another school play a factor?
the school itself? The athletic facilities? How nice the campus is? How hot the girls are? How strong the fanbase is? Do you desire big crowds at home games or is playing in front of smaller crowds and in smaller arenas okay?
The other players on the team? Do you get along with the guys? Do you see too many challenges or a good opportnuity for minutes at your position? does the possibility of not standing out while you have to compete with other top loevel recruits worry you? Do you want to go where you feel more secure in minutes and a role?
The region of the country? Maybe there is certain city or state you would like to live in or a certain type of weather you prefer?
Academics play a factor?
Does being able to join the most prestigious basketball program possible weigh heavily on your decision as it is seen as an accomplishment that comes with a certain amount of noteriety such as being on television, having great chances to win and compete in march madness each year etc…?
Im just curious what you guys think and ill add my own thoughts later. FAdd anything that should be taken into consideration that i left out. Also feel free to list schools you currently think you would like to attend given the opportunity.

lakesidebenParticipantIf I am a 3-4 star recruit, then it’s scholarship, academics, facilities, location in that order. Let’s face it, as a teenager, girls might factor but there are hot girls on every campus. If I think I have a shot at the NBA, then I am looking for the school with the most exposure that will offer me a scholarship.

dmo21ParticipantGetting the best scholarship would be ideal as there would be no guarantee getting to the NBA, so getting some free schooling would be the best.
If 4-5 schools were offering the same scholarship I would take the teams playing style (how it fits my ability), my chances to get minutes (I’d like to play as much as possible and as quickly, even if we’re a losing team), how the coach views me (everybody likes to feel wanted haha) and where it is located (I like to stay loyal to the locals and I don’t dig the big city) in consideration.
I figure all schools can get you a similar education and have similar types of girls. I’ve never really needed to like my teammates, but never had any problems with them either.
By my answers, I’d probably end up in NDSU (as it wouldn’t be ideal to stay to play college ball in Canada if I’m that good).

lakesidebenParticipantNothing wrong with NDSU.(as long as you can stand the cold) I went to school just across the river. No NBA alums but a great school with rabid fans.

dmo21ParticipantI’m from Saskatchewan and used to work in Northern Alberta, I know the cold.

r377ParticipantI would avoid Kentucky or Duke as minutes would be limited.
If my dad or brother played somewhere I would follow family tradition and go there probably.
I hate the cold so I would go somewhere warm, with a good coach and good program. I wouldn’t go to some scrub school just to pad my stats…
Arizona, UCLA, Florida (state) etc

Flameres15ParticipantIf I’m a 3 or 4 star recruit who plans to stay for 4 years, I’m looking at who the coach is and how much playing time I’m going to get. So that removes Duke (who I grew up watching) and Kentucky, both of whom attract one-and-dones. Since I’m looking at coaches who develop their players the list would include: Kansas, UNC, Louisville, Oregon, Virginia, and Michigan State. Kansas and UNC have great coaches, but they also attract many 5-stars, so playing time might be difficult to come by. That leaves Louisville, Oregon, Virginia, and Michigan State. If I’m a point guard, Louisville is my pick. Oregon has made if far in the tournament these past two years, and they are an up-and-coming team (even if Brooks, Dorsey, and Bell go pro). Virginia develops their wings into wholesome players(Malcolm Brogdon and Justin Anderson). Michigan State would probably be my pick because Tom Izzo is a great HOF coach, who develops their players into well-rounded players.

bdmoteParticipantIf I am a 3-4 star recruit I am going to the best school possible because the is allready a slim chance of the NBA and At the end of the day im probbably not going anywhere so with the hot girls they are every where and a college ball player is going to get some ass no matter what so i look at 10 years down the road and I just play ball and get a degree.

OhCanada-ParticipantFirst of all Im not doing any studying or showing up to classes I dont want to show up to or doing any tests so they would have to find a way to graduate me despite that.
I want lots of gear. I dont care if its Nike, UnderArmour, Addidas, Reebok etc. Just qaulity. Im taking laces to headbands and everything inbetween. Im a size 12, 13, 9, 10.5, 6.5 and 10. Might as well get me a pair in each size with each colour of the rainbow with matching gear.
In order to recieve my written commitment Ill defenitely need some sort of signing bonus.
Louisville would immediately be frontrunner. Alot of people give them hell for that escort scandal but that would probally seal the deal for me. Just make sure they come with the morning after pill and proof of health. Hygiene would also be important.
Also somewhere warm.

BallerScriptParticipantLooks like we’re gonna be teaming up for the Cards next season! Double shooting sleeves, ankle bracelets and all! National Championship here we come!

festar35ParticipantI’d probably avoid the schools like Duke, Kentucky, UCLA, Kansas etc. those guys that seem to go for the one and done prospects.
I would look firstly into who was the coach and how successful the program is as I would likely be there for 4 years and teams like UNC, Michigan, Michigan State and Louisville stand out to me. These are teams that’d likely be making NCCA tourney throughout tenure and hopefully by years 3&4 be in a position to really contribute.
In terms of academics, I’m not really sure who offers but I imagine I’d try get into physical training or coaching.I like the idea of a smaller city/town, I think I’d get distracted in LA, NY, Chicago etc.
After all that I have put up one team I left off that is located in Indiana is the Butler Bulldogs, I grew up Pacers fan so being able to go to a university in Indiana would be awesome.
It’d be tight between Butler and UNC, but I think Butler wins for being in Indiana.0 - Posted on: Wed, 04/05/2017 - 7:28pm #1095145

OhCanada-ParticipantGUT FEELING
The first impression is the most important factor in any relationship and is made in the 1st 10 seconds of meeting somebody. I want to be able to feel comfortable with my Coach and have a geniunely good relationship with him. I dont see how anything can be more important than feeling good about who you are playing with and for everyday. No fake smiles and complete confidence and belief in my leaders.PROVEN RESULTS
I need to know what you are preaching has worked and provided other boarderline top 100 prospects with platforms to successful careers. I looj at what schools like Gonzaga, Michigan, Michigan St., San Diego State and Butler just off the top of my head.SOMEONE TO LEARN FROM
To have a player that was a similar physical build and skillset as you to learn from would be great. Preferabbly a Junior so I could get 2 good years picking his brain and then when he foes peo I can take his slot in the offense.ARTS COURSES
If I was to get a scholarship I would like to take advantage of that and take some courses in arts to learn stuff like music entertainment management and producing engineering and that complicated stuff.LOCATION
As much as I would like to say location doesnt matter that would just be a lie. I would love to be on an Ocean and somewhere warm.0 - Posted on: Wed, 04/05/2017 - 8:23pm #1095148
dawsdabossParticipantwhichever school is sponsored by Brooks is where i’d go #swag

Robb_CParticipantWhichever coach paid the most.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 04/06/2017 - 12:03am #1095154

Anton123ParticipantI’d love to go to a team that has great player development and where I can stay for all four years and still be respected and needed. A good relationship with the coaching staff would be a priority, you never know what the roster will be like a couple of years later. A team like Gonzaga would be perfect for me – steady development, not giving up on players, plays smart basketball.
I wouldn’t want to get minutes for not doing anything, I would like to earn them and feel great about myself for doing so, even if it means waiting a year or two.
0- Posted on: Thu, 04/06/2017 - 12:10am #1095155

Anton123ParticipantIt’s also very hard to me to imagine being an elite recruit, because I am 5’6” and have a lot of health problems, so I imagine academics being important just in case.
I was never really one to prioritize fun, ha-ha.

ChammesParticipantIf i was a middle tier player with skills i would go somewhere like a mid major and try to be damian lillard or paul george

HobbyOGParticipantReally good question. To me academics, playing time and competition. You want to play the best and be on TV. I live in Georgia so if I’m a 3-4 star I would go to GEORGIA TECH. One of the best engineer schools in America, in the middle of Atlanta, weather is good and you play in the ACC against Duke, UNC, Syracuse, etc. The team is improving with the new coach as well.

mowestenParticipantHarvard, Yale or Princeton. Lets be honest, there haven’t been many people graduate those schools who went on to be a failure in life. No matter how good you are, you get to play basketball into your 30s, then you have another 30+ years of working for a living ahead of you.
If I was academically able and could make the financial side of it work, I would go to an Ivy League school and play basketball, have fun, and enjoy the experience.

JordoParticipantI would need to be far from home. No outside distractions from academics or athletics
I would want to play for a coach that’s stern but far. How I will fit with my teammates is a big deal. You can guage from film how you can fit system wise but you won’t know how all the personalities will clash until you get there.
Big city or small town wouldn’t matter to me because i never was a "hit the city" type anyway. I’d probably prefer a smaller town only because maybe my teammates are less likely to get distracted in salt lake vs New York.
Every recruit wants to make a name but I believe I can manage being a quiet yet efficient contributer and catch the eyes of a team. Thats why the coach’s system would have to taylor around team first , defensive mibded. I think of guys like PG, Leonard, Bulter who weren’t hot commodities but defense and hard work turned them all into stars. That’s the closest thing I could turn into. A guy that is a scraper that develops his offense later.
Acedemics is probably the toughest one. Me at 17-18 would say to hell with class. But 24 ne is thinking take business and money management classes in prep for life outside of ball.
