Dennis Smith is 6’2 and when he is playing he looks 5’11 similar to a Ty Lawson. He weighs in at 195 while Fultz ways in at 190 and Lonzo also weighs 190, will Lonzo be too skinny at 6’6 190 will Fultz be too skinny at 6’4 190, in the top ten the heaviest is Lauri, who is a unatheltic thick twig. Comment reactions.

There’s no more handchecking. Smith and Fultz are so athletic and attack so aggressively that they will be fine. At 6’6 Lonzo will be fine using his height to play over people (he’s not bad in the athleticism department either, but when your comparing him to Smith and Fultz…).

Also I can’t think of any Mark Jackson type PG who back down/ post up other PGs consistently in the league today, so I don’t see their weight as a weakness.

Neither, I think both are strong and play strong despite their slight build, especially Smith.

We’ve seen examples of both where a lack of height and build hasn’t stopped players from being successful. Especially height now.

Everyone points to Ingram as an example of someone who’s skinny who hasn’t necessarily been great in the NBA yet, but he really doesn’t play strong. Just because you’re skinny, doesn’t mean you can’t play strong and just because you’re small doesn’t mean you can’t play big.

    Very important.

People like Lillard, KD, Tayshaun Prince, and Mike Conley fit this bill.

If you saw Lillard on TNT, he’s really much smaller than I thought.

Ive made this comment about Fultz, Id be really surprised if he was a legit 6’4.. Im convinced he wears that cereal box of a haircut to sell an inch or two..

Take every current NBA star, in their mid-20s, and then watch footage of them when they were 19. They were pretty much all skinny.

I remember when Durant came out and reports were he couldn’t even bench 135 1 time. Seemed to work out for him

Size is not an issue at PG. Some very good PGs are 6’2" and lower in the league: Paul, Parker, Thomas, Kemba, Bledsoe, Conley, Lowry … I am starting to think size makes us overrate the Mudiays, Paytons and Dunns of the world.

Smith and Fultz indeed look a couple inch smaller than their listed height but lots of player get listed an inch too tall that’s common and nobody seems to care that KAT is not a legit 7′ footer that has nothing to do with his talent.

If anything it’s the opposite. Rules are tilted in favor of these smaller guards and physically weaker players. Isiah Thomas wouldn’t be putting up anything close to these numbers ten or more years ago.

Speaking of Isiah Thomas (of the Pistons) imagine what kind of numbers he’d be putting up in today’s game.

Height and weight don’t really matter in today’s NBA. You see guys like Kyle Lowry, Isaiah Thomas, and CP3 killing the NBA.

Markelle Fultz is 6’4”-6’5" and weight 195 at the age of 18. I don’t have a problem with his frame. Dennis Smith is 6’1"-6’2" and weight 190 pounds at 18-19.

Casey do me a favor go look at Westbrook and Rose in College and ask yourself if you genuinely think Fultz is bigger than either.. Hes not 6’4 6’5. Id say hes at most 6’3 with shoes and that haircut..

True. Team USA photos shows last summer even with the haircut Fultz was shorter than Hamidou Diallo (not considering Diallo’s own haircut even) and Diallo is said to be 6’5". Even if Fultz has grown an inch or so and Diallo was listed small that puts him more at 6’3".

IT is like 5’9 and he is an All Star. Might even be a franchise player now.

How many years did IT play in College? He actually refined his point guard skills while still in college.. Look at the numbers for Freshman Point Guards who enter the draft.. They historically have trouble being consistent PGs..  Thomas is a pitbull and true leader, His alpha personality is what separates him.. Hes a rare talent.

The notion of the “modern” PG is constantly contradicted by smaller players.

The 6’4” 210 pound prototype with jaw dropping athleticism has certainly produced stars such as Wall and Westbrook, but guys like Steph,Kemba Walker, Isaiah Thomas, Kyle Lowry, and others have proven that it’s not necessary to be successful.

Isaiah Thomas is averaging 29.7 points per game! I’d counter in saying that if any guard is quick enough, a good enough shooter from deep, and has a good handle to create one-on-one opportunities, that this era is prime for them…not the other way around.
