BallerScriptParticipantJoel Embiid could be the first rookie to be in the all star game since Blake Griffin and this inspired me to ask this question.
What would the 2014 NBA draft top 10 look like in a redraft?
1. Joel Embiid
2. Jabari Parker
3. Andrew Wiggins
4. Nikola Jokic
5. Zach LaVine
6. Julius Randle
7. Rodney Hood
8. Jordan Clarkson
9. T.J Warren
10. Clint Capela
HM: Dario Saric and Aaron Gordon

EndlessknightParticipantMaybe I’m just a Sixers homer but I’d take Dario long term over Capela.

r377ParticipantEmbiid is still an injury risk so I think he drops down the list. Nothing to do with talent, but he could go down injured at any moment (which is why he didn’t go 1 in the draft to begin with)
I like Gary Harris, I would try and slot him into the top 10

nick5354ParticipantAlthough Embeast is an injury risk he is a once in a decade talent and you just cannot pass on that.
I think the real question is who are you taking no 2, Parker or Wiggins? I have always rated Parker highly and always had him as a better prospect then Wiggins and that view hasn’t changed. I just look at Wiggins and he underwhelms me. I just really rate Parkers maturity and basketball IQ. Very very coachable from what I see, which I think are underated qualities and why I was high on him when coming out of HS.

mgreener_34ParticipantI think we can all agree that the top 4 players of this draft are Embiib, Parker, Wiggins, and Jokic, but I’m kind of shocked to see people rate Lavine and Clarkson so high. To be honest neither player has really improved all that much since their rookie year, and both only play one side of the ball.
Also, are we just doing a big board, or are we actually considering what the teams drafting would do in retrospect? Because if thats the case I think the draft would have went something like
CLE- Embiib- No explanation necessary
MIL- Parker- His biggest knock coming out of Duke was that his athleticism would make him a tweener, and his shot still needed work. Well three years later hes shooting 40% from 3, and looks to be one of the more explosive players in the L. I personally like him more than Wiggins, but I could see why some would still pick Wiggins over him.
PHI- Wiggins- The player they tanked so hard to get. Clearly the most potential at this point in the draft.
ORL- Jokic- Magic wanted size and versatitity with this pick, and wanted a big man that could thrive in an uptempo system. Jokic is doing just that in Denver, and would do the same fo ORL
UTA- Lavine- This would be the pick that shapes the rest of the draft. UTA needed a pg, but I think Lavines potential makes him a lock here, as well as his ability to spread the floor for Gobert and Favors. Jazz ran much of their offense through Hayward that year, and Lavine could help take some of the playmaking duties away from him.
BOS- Saric- Most Celtic fans wanted Dario at the begining of the draft, but no one really knew what direction we were going in. Only two players (Bradley and Olynyk) from that 2013 team are still on the roster, so the Celtics could go in any direction. If they could do it all over again I think stashing Saric for a year and doing a philly like rebuild would be the MO with all things considered. Saric is a good player too
LA- Randle- Same reason why they picked him in the first place.
Sac- Smart- I’ll get flack for this, but I think the Kings would go with Smart over Gordon with this pick. His versatility to play the 1-2-3, all-nba level defense, and great leadership is exactly what the Kings needed (and still need ironically), and I think he and Cousins would have made a great foundation for a toughnosed team. Gordon would be another good pick.
CHH- Hood- With the Batum signing not yet in reach, I think hood would be the best pick available, and a good running mate with Kemba and MKG. He is a good shooter, passer, and decent defender. His size alone would make all the difference, and would give them solid protection in case MKG continued to get injured. Gordon again would be a great selection here as well, but again, the Batum signing…
PHI- Gordon- Drafting Wiggins and then Gordon would be a wet dream for Sixer fans. Athleticism for days, and versatility to cover 1-4 on defense.
I think the top 6 picks in this draft would be absolutlely set in stone, but everything after that is a toss up. This is a weird draft to guage this early on because the two players with the best advanced stats and Win Shares are Parker, Smart and Hood, with the later two players none of us would really draft in the top 6, maybe even top 8, and guys like Lavine and Randle have clear limitations.

nill650ParticipantGood point about is this a big board or does take teams into account. My list was based on only what they have shown thus far and how much more they likely will improve over the next 2.5 years. I learned along time ago not to underestimate the impact of prospects too soon. Take the likes of Whiteside for example who did not look like he
should have been drafted at all after 2 yrs .
FYI I have Clarkson and Lavine pretty high on my "board" both of whom look to be capable of playing in the NBA in a rotation on a championship roster sooner than those below them.
I am not sure yet about Warren I think if he were on a good team he would struggle for pt

theballerwayParticipantin agreement about Exum and Vonleh now eh
sidenote- Opinions on Wiggins vs Parker- always skewed because you expected more from Wiggins but not so much from Parker so he is now a pleasant suprise.
Embiid – The chance of what he could be outweighs the Greg Oden fears. Roll the dice
Wiggins – If he could just get 2 more rebounds a game eh. His improvement in other areas has been good
Parker – The knock was his athletism, this is no longer an issue lol
Gordon – Not being used properly imo.
Jokic – Plays like a ‘natural’
Randle – He a j away from being a problem. Needs to find a defensive niche tho.
Lavine –
Warren
Hood
Capela
Saric
Payton

theballerwayParticipantIn regards to Clarkson, I think hes decent I liked him at Missouri quite a bit. I just dont think he’ll get much better as a overall player. Im sure as he matures he will improve his prcentages and t/os but I think hes a 6th man (good one) . I think theres still hope for Payton to be an above average starter (Pat bBeverlywith better game control/vision. But that literally just my opinion no exciting advanced stats or anything behind it at all.
Time will tell (Payton wasnt even starting a while back)

r377ParticipantIts funny, we all laugh at Oden going before Durant and Sam Bowie going over Michael Jordan, yet I get negged for saying Embiid is an injury risk and shouldn’t go number 1.
Embiid is injured again missing 6 of his last 7 games
0 - Posted on: Wed, 03/01/2017 - 2:38pm #1093237

r377ParticipantEMBIID DONE FOR THE SEASON.
He has played just 31 games out of a possible 246 games. That is just 12% of total games played.
LOL at all the amateurs who would of taken him @ no 1….
