valentineTerrance Ferguson is the latest high profile recruit to hit the NCAA where it hurts them most. The junk.
He’s down under making 500k as an 18yo, including lots of little marketing deals. No Language barrier. Just beautiful warm weather and girls walking around in bikinis that seem to get smaller every year.
He claims that heaps of people wish theyd taken his route. Hes not dominating…in fact hes a boy against men….but hes an attraction and gets paid half a million.
Youre gonna see way more one-and-dones come to Australia. I’m petitioning the national league to have one roster spot for
‘international imports under 21 years of age"
Average salary package 500k to 1mil.
NCAA is in trouble. Real trouble.

negguaryParticipantI do have to agree with you! I really hope that more players start to take this route and force the NCAA’s hand into stop taking advantage of these young players! They literally make 100% profit off these players, and worse they force them to come play for a least a year before they can even make money! I have not like your posts lately but the NCAA is foul and needs to be stopped period!

Hype MachineIts the marketable guys that need to do it. The most they can make here is 200k for a 6mth contract but their endorsement potential is unlimited. If Ferguson can get 500k in Adelaide, someone else can get 1m in Sydney, Melbourne or Perth.
The only smarter thing you can do financially is go to Kentucky or Duke, since its the only way to inflate draft stock.
Even Ben Simmons and Andrew Wiggins wouldnt be star players in our pro league when they are still 18.
But they can sell shoes, jerseys and host basketball camps for rich white kids. And they learn a lot about being a pro and an adult, instead of being coddled.
I believe theres space for 5 high-profile U20 imports…guys who need money now.
Plus…these games are televised and available online. Its very easy for scouts to get footage.

hoopscopParticipantYou have no clue at all as always, no knowledge, no perspective. Scouts are talking that Terrance cost him probably 10-15 spots in the next draft going down under. With the new cba and the augmentation of the new rookie scale this means approximately 10 mil $, as in earning 10 mil $ less through his rookie contract. Salaries for the best players in the nbl are circulating at 200000 $, with a soft cap of 1,1 mil AUD. So Ferguson is not earning 500000 $ and nobody is bound to earn 1 mil $ the next 50 years in Australia. Your post is so pointless.

Hype MachineDo your research. He gets 200k from playing, 300k in endorsements. He has an Under Armor deal. NBL salary can is not tied to endorsements.
He gets $0 in college
He can buy a house for both him and his parents. In 6 months work.
Dont pretend like you know where hes being drafted. Check your facts first.

r377ParticipantYou could argue that this does not drop them in the draft order – in fact it might cover up and aid them
– they don’t have to go up against other nba prospects
– they are not expected to score 15-20ppg against grown men.
– they can just go on high school hype.
Two examples – Brandon Jennings 10th overall selection is now a backup. Muiday was taken 7th and has not performed – shooting 36% with 100 Turnovers a game.
Hype does have a point, I think we will be seeing more and more players play overseas before being drafted. If you are 18 years old, why not go overseas, see more of the world and get paid to do what you love (play ball)

binetParticipantRight now he is viewed here and in other draft sites as a late first rounder, while his talent is clearly above that, just based on his CV as of right now: multiple international U-1X selections with the US, outstanding performance at the Hoop Summit, perfect size/length for a SG, above average athleticism, above average long range shot…
That being said, recent history, last year in particular, has shown that NBA teams are paying much more attention to international prospects and if Yabusele did manage to climb to 16th, a good show in some workouts could help him climb to whatever draft range he should have been at.
So far he has a decent role as a 18 year old on a grown up league. I really don’t know how good is the Australian league though… If he had the same role and numbers in Spain or Turkey, I would tend to think he is an incredible talent, but I doubt Australian league is as good as top european leagues. In China for example, those numbers would be bad.

TopShottaParticipantIt will always come down to personal workouts for players in this situation, most players overall really. In the meantime if he is earning great money, living life abroad, and working on his game how can anyone call this a bad move?
