llperezthere was a lot of money thrown around this summer. So who do you guys think were some of the dumber deals that were that were handed out? And for the record, im not bringing this up to hate on the players, im glad business is booming and the athletes are getting the money to show for it. I just question the decision making from managers and whether or not they are making decisions that are truly good ideas.
Like for my lakers, they selnt big on mzogov and deng. Im not mad about the mozgov deal because he brought an actual need for the team of a legit center, plus i think he has more skills then we got to see in Cleveland. But the deng one is a head scratcher. They already drafted ingram who will be starting by year 2 at the latest. Plus deng wont be able to lside over to the 4 spot where the lakers have their biggest log jam already with randle, nance and black. Deng will basically be a bench player by year 2 and the lakers will have to extend randle, nance and russell before dengs deal is even up and thats not to mention the idea of going after other free agents.
Anyways, here are some of the larger deals given out that i find questionable. No order just wrote them down from the cbs site where i got them from in their order they had them listed.
al horford 4 yrs 28.3 mil/yr
mike conley 5 yrs 30.6 mil/yr
andre drummond 5 yrs 26 mil/yr
demar derozan 5 yrs 27.8 mil/yr
bradley beal 5 yrs 25.6 mil/yr
nicolas batum 5 yrs 24 mil/yr
dwight howard 3 yrs 23.5 mil/yr
chandler parsons 4 yrs 24.6 mil/yr
kent bazemore 4 yrs 17.5 mil/yr
ryan anderson 4 yrs 20 mil/yr
bismack byombo 4 yrs 18 mil/yr
evan turner 4 yrs 17.5 mil/yr
harrison barnes 4 yrs 23.5 mil/yr
allen crabbe 4 yrs 18.8 mil/yr
ian mahini 4 yrs 16 mil/yr
joakim noah 4 yrs 18 mil/yr
luol deng 4 yrs 18 mil/yr
timofey mozgov 4 yrs 16.3 mil/yr
jon leur 4 yrs 10.5 mil/yr

r377ParticipantThe Beal and Parson contracts would be ok if they could actually play 75+ games per season. If healthy that is a fair price, but with the injury concerns that is just too much too pay and could set both teams back.
Deng has way too many miles, that’s going to be a tough contract to move in two years when they will know doubt try and move him…..
There are quite a few contracts there I can see being problems for teams in the next two or three years…..

llperezjoakim noah jumps out to me. he played poorly in preseason, was coming off the bench last year as it was. And to start the season he had 0 points in 20 minutes with little impact. Phil should be very concerned with that one.

UncledrewParticipantConley is good but he’s career 13 ppg gonna hard to justify 30 million a year. Charlotte paid Baum to lock in 15 5 and 5 solid but not 125 million dollar worth. Al horford getting 16 and 9 doesn’t equal 28 mil per season but better to have than to play against.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantAs has already been stated, the Noah deal really looks like it could be bad for the Knicks. 18 mil over the next 4 yrs for a player who is on the wrong side of 30 and hasn’t been very good or healthy the past few seasons. It seems unlikely at this point that he will ever get close to his 2014 level of production again.
Deng was brought in to provide veteran leadership in LA, but that seems like an awfully steep price to pay for a guy that probably won’t factor much into their future plans. Especially when you consider that he got 2 yrs 20 mil in 2014 as a younger and more productive player. The mosgov deal could go bad as well, but the Lakers are in a position where they really have to overpay to get free agents to even consider going there right now.
Biyombo had a breakout postseason, but he is still a largely unproven and one-demonsional type player and he is going to have to fight for mins in a very crowded frontcourt in Orlando. If Parsons can’t stay healthy than that deal obviously will look bad, and Barnes needs to really step up and expand his game to justify that contract.

HitsterParticipantEvan Turner’s deal looked top heavy to me considering that Philly weren’t prepared to retain him and Magic signing Biyombo after having traded for Ibaka is still a strange one for me.
Mike Conley’s deal was also very generous for someone who has never been an All Star and has one all 2nd defensive team nod on his resume. Also he is 29 now so deal will take him until he is well past 33 he’ll have a lot of miles on the clock by then.

JoeWolf1I don’t think Boston can get to NBA title form before Horford starts to regress drastically due to age. He made them better, no doubt, and the Celts will be a major challenge to the Cavs the next 2 seasons, but I think by years 3 and 4 he’ll be getting big time money for a 11 p 6 r big man who can stretch the floor and not really protect the rim anymore.

SubZeroParticipantI’m not sure Harrison Barnes will ever be $23.5 mil worthy. This is the first time he’s been out of Steph, Klay, and Draymond’s shadows though so hopefully he can break out

theballerwayParticipantThe Barnes deal is a lot for him to live up to especially with his current skill set.
