I just learned that the Sixers traded for Tibor Pleiss and two second rounders and sent Marshall to the Jazz.

I don’t really know why the Sixers feel the need to trade for another Center and as a fellow german I feel very sorry for Tibor to now be buried behind what seems to be the most crowded frontcourt in the league and the fact that the Sixers gave away another need in a guard doesn’t help either.

Maybe they like adding even more picks and the Jazz now have 6 pg’s on the roster in Exum, Hill, Neto, Paige, Mack and now Marshall.

Strange deal to me or am I missing something here?

Like I said I feel kind of sorry for Pleiss who I was excited about for years as he was drafted by the Thunder but was dealt to the Jazz just before he came over and had a rough season in Utah as one of the older rookies. I still think he could play a few more years in the league as a backup a la Jeff Withey or Mike Muscalla but damn the Sixers aren’t a good fit for him. I kind of feel the same for Neto in Utah. A nice young player but absolutely in a tough situation.

    Thoughts?

Yeah I’m not sure why Philly did it, unless they just wanted some more 2nd rounders. Even more not sure why Utah did it, because 2nd rounders have proven to be valuable at times. They have no need for Marshall, so maybe they were just trying to dump Pleiss

Strange for both teams to add players in positions they are stacked in. Effectively looks like a salary dump by Utah as they have waived Marshall.

From what I’ve been reading was salary dump, but now gives the Jazz enough cap space to re negotiate favors contract kinda like harden and Westbrook already did this year.

Gives sixers more draft picks, it’s a pretty smart move for both teams. small trade put a win win, both players got waived but opens up cap space.

immediately. The Sixers basically purchased two – 2nd round picks from the Jazz to take Pleiss’ salary.

Switching gears but staying on the topic of the 76ers, anyone see the Twitter pic of Joel Embiid & Drake after Drake’s show in Phila???

Embiid is gigantic but he’s proportional. In the pic Drake looks 12 & Embiid looks like his Yoked Dad. I’m have to admit, I’m getting excited about seeing this kid play & I’m Lakers fan.

Im watching arena football for the first time and its way more exciting than normal nfl.

I know some Aussie Rules players that would instantly dominate that sport.

The best rugby player in the world has never tried to get on the field in the NFL (Jarryd Hayne is one of the best Rugby League players in the world not Rugby Union). The NFL is such a specialized sport that athletes need to play football for a few seasons to understand the nuances and develop the specific skill set tailored for each position. Mediocre professional rugby players have made NFL rosters on their athleticism alone…

the Fastest Rugby player in the World & he could not even get on the field for the 49ers.

American football players run 4.5 40’s at 250 lbs plus – that is freak athleticism –

& he’s lucky he did not get on the field b/c physically he would have been caught easily & broken down physically…..

NFL players make Millions – if any Rugby players could do it – they would – they can’t so they don’t

Hayne isn’t the fastest in the world. Lol . he isn’t anywhere near that or being the most athletic. Quite a few Rugby players make millions too. Jayne played Rugby league not Rugby (union) that is like comparing Canadian football to American.

The NFL does very little to attract international fans.

At least College Football played a game in Sydney today.

NBA is stealing all their fans.

NFL have long running series of games in London, travel time to Australia is even greater than to Europe so becomes an even bigger issue.

A lot of NFL teams have recruited Polynesian players in recent years as their powerful, strong build is ideal for certain positions.

Both codes of rugby are totally different from American Football and so a top player could not just switch and would need several years to  attempt to become proficient. The one place where there would be a logical switch over might be with the kickers but top rugby place kickers are on good salaries so the need to move would be limited as NFL teams already have a ready pool of guys to choose from.

Aussie rules I’ve never watched that much of but it is a legit hardman sport and had the notable distinction of probably having the most on pitch brawls of any sport.

This is a good example of why I don’t neg trade ideas on this site. This trade would have -2- easy. A trad only has to make sense to 2 people… the decision makers. Doesn’t mean it has to be smart.

This is purely a salary dump.

The 76ers basically traded 3M in cap room for two second round picks since the Jazz can (and have) waive Marshall while owing him nothing.

It doesn’t make sense if you think about it in terms of the players involved, but it does when you think of them as simply contracts.

    Deep(ish) Thoughts

Yeah I think the big fear was that Colangelo would trade away assets for mediocre vets in order to build a better team quicker.

So far he’s shown tremendous restraint.

This is simply Coangelo seeing how much 76er fans loved Hinkie and worship draft picks.  This move is nothing more then an olive branch to the fans.
