valentineThis is a grudge match. Friend vs Friend, Teammate vs Teammate
Australia is suddenly a gold medal contender. European teams have no answers for them at this point.
Some of the stats that guys like Delly, Mills, Bogut, Baynes & Co are putting up are ridiculous. Or is it really just a case of these guys being constantly under-rated.
Winning by 20pts over France, 15pts over Serbia. Beat Argentina and Spain in warmup games.
I’m predicting an upset.

Hype MachineRemember that scene where Mr T was preparing for battle in tough grimy conditions while Rocky Balboa was preparing in luxury and subsequently becoming soft.
Seems eerily like how Team USA is staying on a Luxury Cruise Ship while the Aussies are slumming it in the Olympic Village like common folk.

ThenilonatorParticipantI Do hope your right but let’s not forget this is the same team that got towelled up by Lithuania and struggled against a bunch of kids from the pac 12 in lead up games. Great start for them but no match for the states. USA by 24

holefillers1ParticipantThat’s make believe Hype. And your avatar looks like a Gummy Bear.

he_gets_bucketsParticipantAussies arent even staying in the Olympic Village due to the horrendous conditions ahahahaha
0- Posted on: Tue, 08/09/2016 - 4:07pm #1085532

ChoppyParticipantYeah, they’re still there. Just check Bogut’s tweets. It’s the USA that aren’t staying in the village. A luxury yacht is more their style.
0- Posted on: Tue, 08/09/2016 - 7:07pm #1085538

he_gets_bucketsParticipantNo, they’re not. My links are triggering spam filter, but just do a simple google and you’ll find that the Aussie’s set up their own village since the ones the Rio committee supplied had a plethora of issues.
0- Posted on: Wed, 08/10/2016 - 3:40am #1085548

ChoppyParticipantNot that this is really worth arguing about, but I took your advice and Googled it. Could only find articles of Bogut sewing a shower curtain and pictures of the beds. Everything I read said that it was in the village. I’m prepared to be wrong so if you work it out I’m happy to read your link.
0- Posted on: Wed, 08/10/2016 - 2:26pm #1085582

he_gets_bucketsParticipantJust google "Australian Olympic Team not staying in village" and theres an article from pretty much all the major news channels.
0- Posted on: Thu, 08/11/2016 - 10:37am #1085607

ChoppyParticipantYou’re reading old articles. Once those issues were resolved, they moved into the village. That’s when Bogut tweeted about the accommodation. All the coverage on Channel 7 has been talking about the team staying in the village. Don’t know what else to say.

TarHeelRavenParticipantNah. I don’t think Australia stands a chance versus the United States. Thrown in Simmons and Kyrie (remember he was born in Australia) and they definitely could beat them.
0- Posted on: Tue, 08/09/2016 - 2:09am #1085504

OhCanada-ParticipantYour trippin bruh. Kyrie plays for USA.

Hype MachineI’m tellin you guys….the Aussies about to shock the world
0- Posted on: Tue, 08/09/2016 - 6:33am #1085518

MorseWillParticipantWatched all of the Austrailia vs Serbia game. If anybody watched you would know it was MUCH closer than a 15 point game made it look, game could’ve swung either way in the fourth and the Aussies pulled it out.
Secondly, they started 2 pgs in Delly and Mills, and 2 Cs in Baynes and Bogut… While Bogut will be a good rim protector, there is no way Baynes or Ingles can hope to contain KD and Melo/PG at the forward spots. And Delly can’t guard Klay if he’s hot. Austrailia runs good sets, and will be around in the game early and lose by 21 due to lack of defensive ability

Sewok15ParticipantSpain just keeps on losing. I was glad to see the host nation pull the upset but Spain really blew it. Gasol couldn’t hit a free throw and Mirotic just completely flubbed the box out which led to the game winning put back. These NBA guys need to work more on their fundamentals.
Obviously the US is going to win the tournament but I am having more fun watching the teams that are playing for 2nd.

The GoatParticipantThey should just hack Jordan the whole time he is in the game and keep it scrappy. Realistically USA will beat everyone comfortably but itd be nice to see them knocked off their perch. We already had the LOL moment of these games – the USA won their first medal for shooting.

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantThere is a better chance of a monkey jumping out of your butt than Australia beating team USA.

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantGood fight? Pick the score… USA by 26.

IndianaBasketballParticipantAustralia didn’t win, but good post Hype Machine. Respect.
VERY impressed with Australia. They played better basketball IMO… Just had less individual talent.

shug94ParticipantI agree, Australia played amazingly.
We nearly witnessed ‘Miracle on Hardwood’.

Hype MachineIts so disappointing that the Aussies couldnt get it done. When the game was on the line, Kyrie and Carmello were the ones to step up.
Im not sure they can win a rematch if it occurs since USA will make adjustments, so that was the best chance to finally show the world how far Aussie basketball has come and what its about, which is Teamwork and Physicality. Its hard to match talent levels when our population is just 5% of USA.
I dont care much for close losses…
Paul George called the Boomers dirty. That sounds like a man who thinks hes entitled to a gold medal and Coach K should bench him for his soft attitude.
Still…plenty of tough games to go and all the good work so far counts for nothing if they dont make it to the medal rounds.
0- Posted on: Wed, 08/10/2016 - 6:42pm #1085588

IndianaBasketballParticipantI agree with him. Thought Bogut’s foul on Irving and others were a little too much.
I don’t think PG or Team USA has a problem with that style of chippy or extra physical play, as long as they’re allowed to play the same way.
0- Posted on: Wed, 08/10/2016 - 10:35pm #1085594
Hype MachineWe really need a rematch lol…

tblazer_NZParticipantHype, do you still hate your national teams coach, Andrej Lemanis? He seems to be doing a really good job with them.
0- Posted on: Wed, 08/10/2016 - 9:38pm #1085591
Hype MachineLemanis doesn’t deserve any credit. Luc Longley is the coach the players listen to.
Andrej Lemanis is the lucky beneficiary of having a starting 5 that play in the best teams in the NBA. He came cheap….so we hired him. Easily affordable in NZ pesos.
Baynes and Mills are Popovic disciples, Delly and Bogut both have rings and play in winning system. Ingles has played on Champion Euroleague teams for years and years.
Lemanis just says "play like the Spurs"…and the players are smart enough to do it.
0- Posted on: Thu, 08/11/2016 - 4:21pm #1085614

tblazer_NZParticipantI think your hate of him is added by the fact that he made the NZ Breaker dominate (3 peat) the Aussie teams in the ANBL. It wasn’t like the Breakers had supreme talent…. I mean Mika Vukona shouldn’t be winning a team games. I beleive he helps them play a team game, but also gritty and tenacious on D. But each to their own. He was able to do something special for NZ and the Breakers as a club.

r377ParticipantVery good game, I nearly thought we had it before Kyrie hit that lucky step back 3.
Great team work by the Boomers, even though they lost I am very proud of them….
