    Watching nba tv right now and they are replaying game 2 of the 2009 eastern finals between Orlando and clevland. And holy hell does Anderson verajao flop like no one who has ever played the game. The tv commentators (Kevin Harlan and Doug Collins) are just ripping this guy for his flopping.

    Then I think back to these past finals and I remember instances of verajao flopping and announcers ripping him and I’m thinking I just jumped into a time machine and went back almost a decade and this dude hasn’t changed a bit. I mean they are showing these replays of him flopping grabbing guys and falling down making it seem like they knocked him over and it pissing me off.

    Most of us grew playing ball on the playgrounds with no refs. Flopping isn’t an option. Guys like verajao obviously grew up playing with refs because he is beyond fake.

     Unfortunately flopping has become part of the game and verajao has always been one of the biggest culprits.  Flopping is not basketball.  I believe there should be extremely harsh penalties for flopping like being suspended pay and missing games.  I don’t remember what the penatlies are for flopping now, but they are not harsh enough in my opinion and flopping drives me completely insane.

    Strange for a guy who is known as being a strong player and is called Wild Thing to flop as much as he does. You’d naturally associate it with thinner more finesse type players.

    Hes the player you absolutely cant stand unless hes on your team. It blows my mind how he refs can give him the benefit of any call where it could possibly be a flop. You know he will 100% flop if given the opportunity so unless they see blood from him how does he alway get the calls? It just drives me crazy to see an obvious flopper get the ref to blow the whistle. If I was a ref I would let people knock the hell out of him on the court and watch him cry when someone actually does foul him

     I’ve never really been a huge fan of varejao but I can’t say I despise him or the way he plays the game or anything. He is not a very gifted player, but he has always been an extremely smart player and a guy who gives you maximum effort on the floor. In a lot of instances flopping (or exaggerating contact) is just a smart basketball play and it actually takes skill to learn how to do it in a way where you can effectively bait the refs into giving you the call. Varejao is far from the first player to use this tactic and I wouldn’t even consider him to be the worst offender. As a matter of fact, pretty much every savvy player in the league will utilize it to some degree.

    Only Chris Paul is worse in my opinion. He flails like a maniac anytime anyone gets near him especially when his team is in the bonus.

    I despise flopping more than anything in basketball (the constant complaining to officials is a close 2nd). I recall a high school game in which my team was losing by 25+ points and I was guarding the opposing point guard on an in bounds play. I was denying him the ball and he just grabs my arm and falls to the ground…and of course I get called for a foul.

    Luckily I told my best friend about this and he was nicknamed the Claw for his tenacious (dirty) defense. The flopper was on a break away and the Claw was chasing him down and just crushed him from behind and put him through the double door entrance to the gym. It was well worth the flagarant foul in my opinion.

    I think that is how you police floppers….you foul the crap out of them.

       James Harden flops more than any player I’ve ever seen. And it works for him in most cases.

       Wade also needs to be mentioned. You can’t even put a body on him. If he beats the initial man and you don’t have elite help defense waiting for him at the rim its a layup or a trip to the foul line. Any slight contact and he sends the ball as close to the rim as he can and flails both arms in the air waiting for the refs to blow the whistle. The worst part is when the refs don’t give him the foul and he stares them down like he’s entitled and walks back on defense. Such a childish league. Losing Kobe and Duncan won’t help.

       but Paul, Varejao and Harden (all mentioned earlier) are on a whole another level than LBJ. Lebron is 2nd tier flopping at best.

     Sucks when guy like Varejao get labelled energy role players when in reality they are pests and floppers. Dudes number one skill is flopping.
