The Scare Crow RisesParticipantNot for a lack of trying
Jerry’s boy desperately wanted to trade for the 3rd-7th pick to land Dunn/Hield/Murray and couldn’t find a trade partner
He didn’t panic, held firm and kept his quartet of talented Big Men (Noel/Okafor/Saric/Embiid)
Ben Simmons will make life easier for Okafor, and he should come back with a chip on his shoulder after being “shopped” and “rejected” by Boston, I think he’s going to drop 20 on the Celtics frontcourt and bully whoever they put in him…
Nerlens will have a lot to prove as well, he’s playing for an extension and with Ben running the show, he’ll be running fast breaks and catching lobs in no time…I think he’s only going to get better and only needs to play defense and hustle for rebounds next to Ben and Okafor/Embiid
Joel being 100% healthy better not have been a misdirect by Bryan Colangelo in his pursuit of the 3rd pick…I feel like Joel has the potential to be a very good player, he only has to have a similar career to Big Z in Cleveland to be worth the wait, of course he can be much more but I’ll take a big body with range and interior defense, add the fact that he’s got a nasty streak too…
Getting 2 international prospects with lottery talent/potential was a good move, although both may take a year or 2 to come over and fully develop, they both have range and athletism, making our future brighter at the SG position
So what we didnt land Dunn or Murray, Im certainly convinced we’ll add a PG in free agency or in the Deep 2017 PG class (Fox/Ball/Smith Jr.)
We still have 57 million in cap space to improve the Roster overnight if they so choose, we could in all honesty afford 2 MAX contracts plus a reasonable vet for around 7 million (Durant, Conley and Affalo) BUT Im not counting on any of that…
I think a more practical option would be to pry away Delladova from the cash straped Cavs, and I’d force LA and Orlando’s hands as I’d also try to sign restricted Free Agents Clarkson and Fournier, I can see Orlando letting Fournier go since they have Hezonja there already and just added a Big contract in Serge Ibaka, they also have to develop Gordon at Sf IMO…
Anyway, fellow 76er fans and forum users curious about the rebuild, we added 3 great pieces last night, we have the potential to add more in free agency on July 1st…
We will be alright going forward, Ben/Big Jah/Joel/Noel/Saric/Korkmaz/Luwawu and whoever we add from July 1st to late June of 2017…The future is brighter than it as been in decades, more talent around now than when we drafted Iverson and he took us to a Finals appearance, trust the process this group could get there eventually…

Memphis MadnessParticipantI think they should have traded Saric.
They need some guards.
Should have looked to trade for Buddy Hield once he fell a bit.
Saric, 24, and 26 might not have gotten it done but who knows?

EndlessknightParticipantSaric, Luwawu and Korkman for Hield? Seriously? Saric alone is far better than Hield, even younger than Hield.

The Scare Crow RisesParticipantAnd to trade Saric plus Luwawu and Korkmaz for him would be incredibly dumb…
Im just elated that we didnt screw it all up, thank you Sam Hinkie

220ParticipantWell now I can hopefully stop having my recurring nightmare that the Celtics acquired Jahlil Okafor and Brad Stevens turned him into Tim Duncan extending the 76ers run at being a laughingstock significantly.

CDPHParticipantWe’ve waited for three years, we can move ahead steadily, but we can’t try to hurry it. I want a team that can contend for a decade, I’m in no rush to get to the middle.
Here’s what I would do:
This year:
Korkmaz and Luwawu get stashed.
Hold on to Noel or Okafor up until the deadline if need be. Wait it out until you find the right deal that brings a talented guard back. A straight deal with the Nuggets probably doesn’t work, but I would keep an eye on Gary Harris with them having drafted Murray and Beasley.
At the end of the day, I revisit the Rockets trade and send Noel to Houston for Patrick Beverly, Houston’s 2018 1st and Denver’s 2017 2nd.
Assuming Saric comes over as expected (Let’s not turn this into a will he/won’t he thread), that gives them this right now:
PG: Patrick Beverly / Isaiah Caanan / TJ McConnell
SG: Nik Stauskas / Hollis Thompson
SF: Robert Covington / Hollis Thompson / James Webb
PF: Ben Simmons / Dario Saric / Jemeri Grant
C: Jahlil Okafor / Joel Embiid / Rashaun HolmesWe move on to free agency knowing that we won’t be an option for any top players so I’m going to go ahead and remove the top 25 or so options entirely.
PG options: Matt Dellavaedova (RFA), Greivis Vasquez, Jerryd Bayless, Jeremy Lin, Tyler Johnson (RFA), Mario Chalmers, Jarrett Jack, Langston Galloway, E’Twaun Moore,
SG options: Courtney Lee, Allen Crabbe (RFA), Seth Curry, Austin Rivers, Gerald Henderson, Gerald Green
Not a lot of great options there. Some veteran leadership is needed, so option #1 for me is going to be Courtney Lee. He plays defense, he works hard and he can hit from outside.
Now, going into the season we have:
PG: Patrick Beverly / Isaiah Caanan / TJ McConnell
SG: Courtney Lee / Nik Stauskas / ?
SF: Robert Covington / Hollis Thompson / James Webb
PF: Ben Simmons / Dario Saric / Jemeri Grant
C: Jahlil Okafor / Joel Embiid / Rashaun HolmesThat’s a lot better. That’s a real NBA basketball team.
It also leaves us with the assets:
Picks:
2017: 76ers 1st, Lakers 1st (top 3 protected), Kings 1st (swap option), Nuggets 2nd
2018: 76ers 1st, Rockets 1st, 76ers 2nd, Better of Cavs/Nets 2nd, Better of Clippers/Knicks 2nd
2019: 76ers 1st, Kings 1st, Knicks 2nd, Better of Bucks/Kings 2nd
Worthwhile stashes: Timothe Luwawu, Furkan Korkmaz
We jump ahead to the 2017 NBA Draft and likely have 2 of the top 7 picks. Let’s not be greedy and call it 3 and 5, that could be Markelle Fultz and Jayson Tatum. Add the stashes and now we have:
PG: Markelle Fultz / Patrick Beverly / Isaiah Caanan / TJ McConnell
SG: Courtney Lee / Furkan Korkmaz / Nik Stauskas / Hollis Thompson
SF: Jayson Tatum / Robert Covington / Timothe Luwawu / James Webb
PF: Ben Simmons / Dario Saric / Jemeri Grant
C: Jahlil Okafor / Joel Embiid / Rashaun HolmesAnd upwards of 50+ million to spend on free agents.
What I’m saying is, the future is so bright we gotta wear shades.

220ParticipantI don’t stash either Luwau or Korkmaz if they want to come over now. I know Fran Fraschilla said Korkmaz wouldn’t be coming over because his buyout is $2 million and he makes $900k. I believe the team can only kick in $500k. I didn’t hear anything definitive about Luwau last night.

NBAjunkie81Participantagainst Canada……….. Saric shot 53% from 3 pt range this past year……… I realize that’s in a Pro League in Istanbul
but It’s a 6’10” guy banging 3’s at a high rate………. I had no idea Saric was that versatile
& I Luv Korkmaz & Luwalu………. I thought those 2 were in most Mocks Top 15 – how did Phila get them at 24 & 26???

Andv1 WaitingParticipantWhich option do you choose:
1) Do you guys just get a stop gap PG for this season:Someone that doesn’t mind a short term deal(1-2 year) which helps the 76ers have one final year of the process so they can get a high pick in 2017 draft to get their future PG?
2)Do you guys go all in on some like a Mike Conley this season?
3) Hope like hell Simmons can play PG for long stretches and just go get an average PG(2nd/3rd tier PG)
4)Do you wait until 2017 where you have the likes of:Kyle Lowry,Westbrook,Jrue Holiday,Derrick rose(if he has a career revival this season),Chris paul(if he opts out),Steph Curry(if the money is a lot greater than what GSW offer) to get your PG..
or is there another move you guys would do?If so please explain why..

Dell87ParticipantIMO CONLEY WOULD BE PERFECT FOR PHILLY.
1. Experienced but not too old
2. Has no ego
3. Plays defense
4. Can hit an open jump shot.
5. Nows what it takes to win.
6. Young guys will listen to him

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI still think Dunn would have been a great fit. It’s a shame they couldn’t get a deal done to get him. They still have a very unbalanced roster.
There options to find a pg in free agency will be very limited. Established veterans will not want to go there until they can create some kind of culture and identity. Someone like rondo might consider them if no one else wants him but would they really want him? There have been some rumors that Phoenix is looking to trade bledsoe but the price tag would probably be steep. Delladova seems much better served as a backup and they will likely have to overpay to get him. If all else fails, I guess they could always just roll with ish Smith for another year and see what the options are in next year’s draft.

FullCourtPressParticipantDelly would be a great pick up if they could get him at 8m – 10m which is probably going rate.
He’d fit right in, he’s familiar with Brett Brown who coached delly in national team, he’s played and trained with Ben Simmons their to. And he’s a great pick n roll player, defender and locker room personality.
He wouldn’t be your long term starting point guard but he would be great to have with so much young talent there his attitude and work ethic would hopefully rub off on them

r377ParticipantI have a question for sixers fans – Do they even need or look to draft a PG ?
Have heard so many times now the game is getting “position-less”. Simmons will have the ball in his hands so much running the offense, would you really want or need someone else handling the ball ?
Instead of a PG, could they get an undersized SG who is quick enough to guard to opponents PG ? They could use two good shooting SG’s when Simmons is on court.
Great draft for Sixers scoring the two international players. Not sure how good timothe will be, but Korkmaz and Saric should be very solid. I just hope Saric and Simmons don’t clash….
