Obviously getting LeBron back was a stroke of great fortune, but the organization cleared salary cap room well in advance of his free agency to position themselves as a contender.

And then there’s the 2011 draft: a lot of people were screaming for Derrick Williams instead of Kyrie, and there was also a lot of criticism over taking Tristan Thompson at No. 4 over Jonas Valanciunas.

The Dion Waiters choice in 2012 certainly was not one they’re proud of, but they traded him for J.R. Smith. If you look at how much Kyrie, Tristan, and J.R. contributed to this championship, the decisions the organization made certainly brought winning pieces together that just needed their hometown star back. Kudos, Chris Grant, and then Dan Griffin!

This drives me a little nuts. I never got rid of my cavs james jersey i knew in someway he would return. I told a friend at work just when he went to miami and i got laughed at.

The cavs then got "handed" the following:

    2011: 1st overall pick

    2013: 1st overall pick

    2014: 1st overall pick

How does that happen? With all that draft capital you better be able to make it happen.

The irony is that they even botched alot of high picks. The NBA "willed" this even with a poor front office. it is too poetic that James was not going to return his home town and delivery to the fans that he scorned.

I was thinking, even if Game 7 is rigged AGAINST Cleveland, I have always heard that if Andre The Giant wanted to win a rasslin’ match — he would WIN the rasslin’ match.  If he wanted to go into business for himself, HE WOULD.

LeBron is like Andre The Giant.  Or, Hulk Hogan.

If I had Three #1 picks, and just took who the fans voted for, then I would have had:

    Kyrie

    Wiggins

    Noel.

Then if I sat on my hands, I would STILL HAVE ALL THREE OF THEM.

I’ll give you the Tristen pick, but I’m not sure I wouldn’t rather have Dion Waiters than JR today, and I am sure that will be the case for the next 10 years.  He played well for OKC.

I definitely would rather have Andre Drummond, Chris Middleton, Damion Lillard, Jae Crowther, and Harrison Barnes pre-finals meltdown, and of course Dreymond Green.

Cleveland could not have done much worse in my opinion.

Don’t forget the #1 pick in the draft had sleep apnea, was obese, and is now out of the league.  Really? Not bad?

You can look at every single franchise in the NBA over the past five years and find some draft picks that they whiffed on and find a guy taken after him that they "should have taken." You can make every single franchise look idiotic by doing so. Instead, you have to look at whether or not they got their title, and applaud the fact that they kept the players who obtained said title.

I can say they definitely shouldn’t have taken Anthony Bennett…

It all comes down to this, LeBron went back. That was lucky and the ONLY reason they won’t. They would still be in the lottery if it wasn’t for LeBron.

Tristan Thompson was the right pick at this point that cannot be disputed.Kyrie Irving was definitely the right pick and Griffin taking Wiggins (and Grant taking Bennett which ultimately got him fired)got the Cavs Love, also the right picks… Waiters was definitely Byrons Scotts pick, not the right pick if Kyrie is your franchise player…Chris Grant should have pushed for Drummond despite the fact that after 3 seasons he is still the worst ft shooter in the league and canot finish games or even Barnes despite his choke gene would have been a better defensive role players and better fits at the time.Waiters has found a good fit in OKC playing with 2 superstars, but he is’nt half the defender J.R. has been this season,Roberson has been. Waiters is not a clutch shooter, although his chucking has been tamed. the only comparison to J.R. is they both are streaky.

So did the Cavs do the right thing? no , they did the right thing with what they had.

Chris Grant was a terrible talent evaluator. We got extremely lucky in the 2011 draft, and we could’ve ended up with Derrick Williams and Brandon Knight (Grant was considering those two). I believe then head coach Byron Scott was pushing for Irving and that tip the scales in his favor.

The 2012 draft was slightly overrated. Barnes had one of the worst finals performances I have ever seen. Drummond is decent but he doesn’t protect the rim nor he can’t shoot a lick. He’s basically an over-glorified Tristan Thompson, except Drummond doesn’t rebound or do the dirty work that Thompson does. Waiters was still a bad pick but Griffin turned him into two studs and a first round pick, which he used for Mozgov.

The 2013 draft was the worst draft in a decade. The rookie of the year in that draft was picked 13th and now he’s about to be traded to his third team. Tyreke Evans 2.0. I liked Bennett as a prospect and I thought Mike Brown hindered his development and his confidence. Nobody from that draft stands out other than Oladipo and Antetokounmpo, who was the mystery man of that draft.

Cavs front office shouldn’t get too much credit in this. LeBron simply wanted to return to his hometown. The cavs made a questionable move when they traded Wiggins for Love (a move that LeBron wanted).

But none of that matters now. The Cavs have ended their championship drought. It’s time to look at the future and see how they can improve the roster. There isn’t much to improve, just keep most of the core intact as long as it’s in their price range (Smith could potentially be out of our price range). Bench help is needed. I’d keep Love unless I’m blown away by an offer.

It’s funny I still wonder how the team would’ve panned out had they drafted the guys I wanted them too. They’d end up with this line up.

    PG: Kyrie Irving
    SG: Victor Oladipo
    SF: Andrew Wiggins
    PF: Harrison Barnes
    C: Jonas Valanciunas

Obviously they’d have issues at the 4 spot with rebounding and defense possibly but man I’m really curious to see how Oladipo, Irving and Wiggins would’ve played alongside each other.
