What’s with the Ben Simmons’ threads today?

I guess we are actually focusing on the draft right now…

Who knows how many games Ben Simmons helps his team win next year… sometimes good play or even GREAT play by a rookie fails to translate into wins.

BUT, I think he will put up some really nice raw stats.

He is also going to be a guy that will probably be eligible for BOTH forward spots, which helps.

If your team is going to give up on 3’s — or you just pick up 3 point specialists later, then Ben Simmons might be your top pick.

He could be a value play version of LeBron James.

Ben Simmons might offer more value at 10 than LeBron in the top 5.

Draymond Green had a really good year (I am assuming) fantasy wise, and I thin Ben can put up some GREAT all-around numbers, too.

The PF position is deep, but I think it is top heavy.  The SF position is less deep and even more top heavy.

So, if you can get Ben Simmons you kill two birds with one stone.

He can ALSO help you go with a big man strategy (as a SF) OR a small ball strategy (as a PF).

He’s not really a stretch 4 (at all), but he SHOULD have more 3 pointers than your average traditional power forward.

Take Ben Simmons at 10, then with your second pick you get one of the last remaining top shelf point guards on the board (unless a top tier center is still on the board).

Get wings with your 3rd, 4th, and 5th picks then load up on several big men.

I think the center position is fairly deep with non-top five centers being roughly equal (depth in the middle).  Even an Andre Drummond, DeAndre Jordan, or Marc Gasol won’t win you your league.

Depending on how your point guard, wings, and bigs shoot the 3 ball either get a few 3 point sepcialists late OR just ignore that category and go with combinations of Steals and Blocks.

Ben Simmons should be an all-around versatile player in both the League AND for fantasy basketball.

He also has big potential for some of those MONSTER games that can help win you a week.

Since the era where they tallied steals and blocks, The only NCAA players who were not listed as full time guards or full time centers to average 16+ points 10+ rebounds 3.5+assists and 1.5+ steals were….

    Ben Simmons and Draymond Green

I really think the negative press surrounding LSU missing the tournament, and Ben Simmons’ GPA has overshadowed how elite of a season he had with the Tigers. Simmons will hit the NBA with an extremely valuable skill. The ability to grab defensive rebounds at a high rate, push the break, and then dish or finish. Look at the success Blake Griffin has had in that regard, and Simmons is much further along as a ball handler, and distributor than Blake was at 19.

He can’t shoot from the outside, but Draymond Green was 2-16 from downtown as a college sophomore. If Simmons has the desire to improve, he can be an elite NBA player. I personally don’t think a bad GPA and LSU missing the tourney is enough to flip my *hit over.

I expect average percentages, no 3’s, and below average defensive numbers…doesn’t translate to 1st ronud value at all.

Curry, Durant, Harden, LBJ, Westbrook, AD, KAT, CP3, Kawhi, PG13 are way ahead of him. There’s another tier of guys who are also ahead of him. I expect him to be around a 4th rounder at best…the team he gets drafted by will be a big factor too.

I’ve said multiple times that Simmons closest comparison to me from a production standpoint will be Blske Griffin.  Maybe a few less rebounds but a few more assists and less highlight dunks but more highlight passes.

Luckily from a fantasy perspective "highlight dunks" and "regular dunks" are worth the same amount of points 🙂

For a head-to-head league, with stat categories, Simmons will be great for the right strategy.  As a power forward, he can get the point guard stats of steals and assists, and plenty of points too.  His FT% won’t be what point guards get.

For a roto team, if you miss out on point guards early in the draft you can still be competitive with point guards picked later plus the assists of Simmons from the power forward spot.

Steals, blocks and 3s can be the hard stats to get.  Simmons will get two of them, plus the odd combo of assists and rebounds.  If he hits his free throws, he could be an important fantasy player.
