Props to Felton (exluding those two missed FTs at the end) for playing a very good game, here’s a guy I thought belonged out of the league. But all the focus of this game should be on OKC, I mean seriously? This is why people don’t think you are a threat to Golden St or San Antonio. Just some horrible offense, Billy D isn’t a great coach clearly but I can only harp on him so much; what do you expect from a rookie head coach coming from college in the SEC (some of the worst offense I’ve seen)? Durant and Westbrook have played long enough to know better. I swear half the time it was just one of those two coming down with the ball, going iso, putting up a shot without passing at all. That’s bad offense for pickup hoops much less an NBA playoff game. At halftime Kenny Smith had some great analysist, showing clips of the Thunder taking a decent shot when there was a better shot, and when they did make the extra pass for a great shot it was a made basket.

I guess this is what you get for wearing those god-awful tshirt jerseys.

OKC will still win this series because Dallas can hardly field a team, but OKC long term isn’t going anywhere. This game was indictive of OKC’s problems just no gameplan or flow on offense other than letting Durant or Westbrook go 1 on 1, which the Spurs can defend against in their sleep.

    Dallas can win this series.

Carlisle is in another league compared to Donovan.

Talent levels are miles apart but coaching matters.

Never hire College coaches. They only range from terrible to average. The best of the recent bunch is Brad Stevens..and hes no Rick Carlisle.

Lots ppl got on Lebron saying he wasn’t clutch and is a choker. Is Durant any better ?

He had Westbrook, Harden and Ibaka and still couldn’t win a championship. He still will not win a championship with OKC, the only way he will win is if he goes to GS in the offseason….

^ That’s about the only way everyone in the league will win a ship, so not sure that’s a good way to evaluate Durant.

It amazes me how guys like Durant, Melo, Harden and other really good scorers on the wing don’t seem to want to understand or embrace the idea that they could be even better and more efficient scorers if they didn’t play hero-iso ball.

Durant running off screens is a nightmare for teams and puts the opposition in a blender. But they want to be isolation guys and even if he scores, its easy to defend.

Durant and Westbrook went 15/55 in this game and 8 assists. 55 shots is absurd. With two guys that good, only combining for 8 assists is emberrassing.

OKC will win this series in 5 games, but yeah a loss like this highlights what is wrong with them and what has always been wrong with them. They play a stupid way. Their talent allows them to overcome it, but man I wish these guys weren’t stupid. Iso/Hero ball is the worst kind of ball.

I cant be so sure that OKC goes 2for2 in Dallas

Theres no reason why Dallas cant go 1 for 2 or 2for2 in their own gym.

Westbrook and Durant had 55 shots combined for only 40 points, the great Kobe had 50 on his own last week and he got 60 points, Perhaps it was just a off shooting day for both. But I still agree with the guys on here for a team with 2 of the best 5 or 6 players in the NBA they should really be a 60 plus win team up there nearer to the Spurs and GSW.

This is only Billy Donovan’s first season in the NBA so I wouldn’t totally blame him. But for months I’ve felt the Thunder really need a specialist 3 point shooter or two to spread the play and take opens created by Durant and Westbrook.

A huge amount of elite NBA players never won their first titles until they were about 28 so I wouldn’t criticize KD as regards his lack of titles so far in his career. Worrying for the Thunder coming up short again might push KD to look at other teams in FA market.

I’m starting to think their style of play has nothing to do with the coach. Not sure what Donovan’s offensive systems really are, but they played the exact same way when Brooks was the coach.

Durant has said multiple times that he doesn’t think playing a ball-movement, Spurs type offense makes sense for that team because they are iso players. That to me, means they just play that way. I guess I coach can try to get something different but at this point, the organization is kind of held hostage by the two players because they can either be happy or they will leave.

It makes me wonder a little bit if Brooks has a different style in mind as a coach. I’d always thought he was simply along for the ride and that his offenses were generic and bad, but maybe its just the way those guys play.

Similar to how Blatt and Cleveland went, he wanted player and ball movement but guys like Kyrie and LeBron hold it all the time.

Would KD have brought into the Phil Jackson triangle offence I wonder?

I know the triangle has it’s critics but if MJ, Kobe, Shaq, Pippen embraced it then it certainly worked for them and Phil coached teams.

GSW move the ball quickly and all the team are good ball handlers – Draymond putting up PG type stats for example.

Billy Donovan would not have overturned all Scott Brooks’ systems in his first year especially as KD and Westbrook liked them. But if the Thunder come up short again, I can see Donovan perhaps looking to put his own stamp on things especially if KD or Westbrook move on in due course. THe issue could be if both stay and they don’t want changes, you could almost have a Cleveland situation then.
