It looks like Memphis alumni and fans who had been very disappointed in the direction the program has taken the last 2 yrs under Pastner might get their wish.Alot of fans complained that he signed too many jr college & graduate transfers over developing players straight out of high school…Pastner also butted head with players.There has been almost 20 players that transferred from the program during Pastner’s tenure.
Last week former Arizona coach Lute Olsen said Pastner has burned too many bridges in Memphis…Attendence had dropped to just over 6,000 at the turnstiles.
A former Pastner assistant told Memphis newspaper The Commercial Appeal that Pastner is in talks to become the school’s head coach..ESPN’s Jeff Goodman also reported the news Thursday evening that Pastner and GT were in negotiations..GT fired Brian Gregory last month after 5 seasons,he went 86-76.
Duke’s assistant Jeff Capel removed his name earlier this month.Bryce Drew interviewed for the job during Final 4 weekend,but turned it down to take the Vanderbilt job.Pastner is 167-73 in 7 seasons at Memphis.This gets Memphis off the hook for the 10 million they owe him under his current deal.

ph90702We’ll see what happens with a change of scenery. I don’t think he’s a great coach, but he has made the NCAA Tournament and won a game with players that he recruited.

LeroyJenkinsParticipantThis is kind of a lateral move for GA Tech. Better in state recruiting (maybe) but worse overall coaching skill. It’s off topic and I’m sorry but this would be such a good move for UGA. Any sign that they remember that they have a ball program would be nice
