Sorry to interrupt all the Sixers and Lakers daily draft threads but has anyone noticed how much better the East is this year ?

    Teams battling for playoff spots.

    East
    4. Miami 16-11
    5. Detroit 17-12
    6. Orlando 17-12
    7.Chicago 15-11
    8. Indiana 16-12
    9. Boston 16-13
    10. Charlotte 15-13
    11. Washing 13-14
    12. NY 14-16

    West
    4. LAC 16-13
    5. Dallas 16-15
    6. Memphis 16-15
    7.Houston 15-15
    8. Utah 12-14
    9. Sacramento 12-17
    10. Phoenix 12-18
    11&12 Denver&Minn 11-17

The Clippers are fourth in the West with 16-13, would not be in the playoffs in the east (tied for 9th with Boston)

The east is certainly improved this year, but since the conferences play so many more games against their own teams it makes comparing them difficult. For example if you want to use the top teams in each as a reference then the west appears better.

I think the main takeaway from the current standings is that the west has a larger dichotomy between the talent at the top and middle/bottom of the conference. Where as there are a lot of teams in the east that could go far into the playoffs.

I think the West is still significantly better. Teams like Phenoix, Sacramento, and Dallas may miss the playoffs in the West but have homecourt and be a 2-6 seed if they were in the East.

BasketBalAllan is spot on with the point about playing more games against your conference. The reason the East has looked so pathetic the past years is the fact that they were playing 50+ games against Eastern Conference teams and still making the playoffs with a sub-.500 record.

The middle and bottom of the East are better than the middle and bottom of the West for the most part, but four (Warriors, Spurs, Thunder, Clips) of the top 5 (Cavs) teams in basketball are in the West…

4-7 in the west would be smokin teams if they played in the east.

currently the east is up by one in head to head vs the west. The east has 85 wins and 84 losses vs the west so as of today its closer then the last 15 years but there is still a lot of season. West depth defenitely down this year and the east has more depth then normal. But looking at the top, the west has 4 of the top 5 teams in basketball with the warriors, spurs, thunder and clippers. The cavs are the only east team that has any chance of taking the title and they are solidly behind the warriors. Also i wouldnt  call out the clipps by saying they would be out of th eplayoffs if they played in the east. They are currently winning 67% of their games vs the eastern conference.
