If he comes overseas Ian Mahinmi(if he is eligible) could be a candidate for rookie of the year if he starts at center for San Antonio. He is absolutely flowing with with potential and will no doubt flourish while playing along Tim Duncan

I think Tyler is a dark horse. I don’t think he will be ROY, but it wouldn’t shock me if he had a really nice year.

There is no possible way that Ian Mahinmi will be the rookie of the year. At best he will be an Oberto-like force for the Spurs, there simply aren’t enough shots to go around for Mahinmi to put up rookie of the year stats with Parker, Duncan, Ginobili. Blake Griffin has this almost on lock, I know it’s bold to say but I think the Clips have a shot to get to the playoffs if the young core (Griffin, Gordon, Thornton) meshes well with veteren Baron Davis.

Jordan Hill, if the Knicks lose David Lee he’ll have to take on that load
And that uptempo style will make him look better

Maybe Derozan too, if the Raps lose Marion & Parker, Derozan will have to play some SG, and get minutes at SF when Hedos on the bench

Jennings is buried behind Sessions and Ridnour.

My money is on Jonny Flynn.

If I had to pick a true darkhorse it would be Omri Casspi. I think he should be able to contribute immediately.

Eric Maynor, I think he will spend alot of time in the backcourt with Deron Williams and steal some time from Ronnie Brewer… I believe he could have a sixth man of the year type impact (13 ppg 5 asst).

Brandon Jennings, will get benched. His coach will be fired for choaking a player, and Joe Budden will have another show. While he will not get the playing time to earn ROY, he has a good start on the Jack-off all trades award currently held by Eddie Griffin … This guy did it all: He was an accomplished movie reviewer; he was a connosieur of fine liquor; he was a stunt car driver. The best part is that he did it all at the same time! BJ is building his resume as we type.

Seriously though, if Stat gets traded, keep your eyes on Earl Clark … They are rebuilding, they still have Nash, he will get good stats in multiple categories, and he was one of the most talented players in the draft (questions of intensity aside).

Notice how I said “Darkhorse”. I don’t actually expect Ian Mahinmi to win rookie of the year, I’m just saying he could theoretically come out of nowhere since the center spot on San Antonio is open.

Hansbrough is my dark horse for ROY.

Realistically, I expect him to finish third or fourth in the voting (a lot of guys more talented than him simply won’t be getting enough minutes). His rookie season will probably be very similar to Brook Lopez’s – generally solid all around, earning more minutes as the season progresses, and an occasional big game that makes people pay attention, but ultimately not quite enough for the honors.

Kevin Durant and LeBron James are the only teenagers ever to win the award, and I think we can all agree there is no one of that caliber entering the league right now.

My pick is clearly Blake Griffin, but if I had to choose a darkhorse, it would be Earl Clark, who should earn good minutes for the Suns.

Ian Mahinmi played 6 games last year. He isn’t considered a rookie for 2009-10. FYI.

i think blake griffin will win it, but as far as darkhorses, i think jordan hill, derozan, hansbrough and maynor. hill will flourish in the d’antoni system, derozan can be starting SG if raps don’t resign AP, hansbrough is solid in the summer league and i’ve read a lot about sloan willing to play maynor and d-will together, sounds interesting.. we’ll see who will win.
