Can you list the player that you watched in College or High School that you just couldnt wait to see the impact they would have at NBA level…. it could be anyone from Austin Rivers, to Quincy Miller, to Anthony Davis.

My story is a bitter one as I quickly became a big fan of Embiid and Wiggins impersonation of Shaq and Kobe (bare with me). Embiid was the man who had just started to play basketball when he entered Kansas, ranked high from a physical standpoint and flashes of star-plays. It didnt take too long before he quickly started dominating as a *Center*, where every play he made looked like STARDOM, nothing I’d ever seen before (6 years watching college). He even dethroned, the super hyped Wiggins and Parker almost unanimously, in matter of weeks.

It almost made me cry to see the potential in him as he was the best prospect I had ever seen (and Unibrow). I thought he would come in the league and quickly become the best center, I didnt doubt it a single bit.

Man, do I wish Embiid had not gotten hurt!!!!!!!!

Dajuan Wagner going from high school to college.  Just seemed, at the time, that he was going to be phenomenal.

I always tend to look at the young guys come draft time, but every so often there will be a guy who holds my attention through the college season.

This past season I really kept an eye on Stanley Johnson, and Cameron Payne I really wanted them to slide to Indiana, not that I have complaints about Turner he will be a nice fit.

In previous drafts I really loved watching Eric Gordon just really enjoyed his overall game and felt he had great potential unfortunately for the injuries. I still have big hopes for this season.
Tyler Hansbrough very happy the Pacers drafted him (In hindsight could’ve been a lot better choices, but Im a UNC fan) he did some awesome things for the UNC program over his tenure.
Harrison Barnes he just seemed so smooth I felt he could really elevate his game in NBA, but still hasn’t shown that next level gear in terms of mentality, as all the skills are there, he is looking like a Jeff Green type career rather than one where he is mentioned as one of the best young wings like George, Leonard or Butler.
Victor Oladipo, obviously there is a theme with UNC and Hoosiers that I can’t wait to see join the NBA. Oladipo kept showing improvement and I loved his passion for the game and how he attacked both ends.

This year I want to see how Jaylen Brown and Ivan Rabb go for Cal and excited about following both of their careers. Troy Williams as well to throw an Indy name out there.

I also was excited about Curry and Lillard, I really like seeing guys from small programs make a name for themselves.

    Obvious one but Kevin Durant.

He was 1a/1b with Greg Oden in the first year of the one and done era. He exceeded expectations in college and was incredible to watch. A 6’10 wing averaging 25 and 11 as a freshman was unheard of and once the Sonics drafted him I knew I would be following that franchise for years to come.

He set the bar so incredibly high for freshman in the one and done era.

Jay Williams was one guy that I was almost certain would be a star at the NBA level and I still think he would of if not for the career ending injury.

But prior to this year, the entire 2008 rookie class, especially all the freshmen.   I watched them all grow up since their Freshman year of HS.

I was shook that B-Easy flopped.   Still think Bayless would’ve had a better career if McMillan didn’t sabatoge his career like he did Bassy’s.  I just KNEW OJ was going to become an All-Star.  I didn’t think K Love was gonna be any good (we had many arguments about that on here).  I was surprised that Westbrook was able to grow into the player he is now (although I think a lot of his success is attributed to being able to play through his f*** ups).  Honestly, D Rose was the only player that actual did what I expected him to do.  I thought that class was going to be ’03.  They had the potential to be.

Yeah I was really excited for Wiggins, Drummond and Barnes.

I thought Wiggins would be a stud.

Drummond would dominate the C position and Barnes would unleash his scoring potential that he showed in college.

I was really excited for Vonleh.. but he didn’t really have a rookie. So can’t wait for his sophomore year in the NBA.

well, it feels like a cop-out, because we were all watching him transfixed, but im 30 days older than lebron. and those high school years being when i truly became obsessed with b-ball, so watching him dominating nationally televised high school games and then transition to the nba was amazing. strangely the same thing occurred with my brother and kobe since they both graduated in 96. in the end im not even much of an lbj fan tho. also, i’ve watched quite a bit of the ncaa tournament in my lifetime… but the 2008 tourny i was glued to the tv mostly because of curry. i never thought he would be able to be an mvp in the nba because of his small stature, but i couldnt wait to see him try.

I couldn’t wait for Tyrus Thomas to get to the NBA after his performances that year for LSU.  Needless to say it didn’t work out too well
